Heart of a Champion

Becky Hart is part of a group of women who were born to make history and wrote her name in the history of an equestrian sport, Endurance, that the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI, the international governing body of equestrian sports) recognized as a sporting category for international competitions in 1985. She is one of the most recognized names in endurance riding because she is the only endurance rider that won the FEI World Endurance Championship three times in a row and with the same horse, R.O. Grand Sultan (RIO)

She has won the FEI World Endurance Championship three times. Becky and her horse, R.O. Grand Sultan (RIO), were inducted into the American Endurance Ride Hall of Fame in 1990. In addition, Becky was the Hertz/AHSA Equestrian of the Year. Becky is a three-time World Champion in endurance racing and an accomplished rider in several disciplines. She currently teaches and gives Centered Riding® and endurance clinics throughout United States, Europe and Japan. Whether you are a new or advanced rider, Becky’s acute observation will guide you to a balanced way of riding.

Becky is as well-known as a speaker, coach, clinician and instructor as she is for her competitive accomplishments. Combining her skills as a USET master rider and Centered Riding instructor!

Name, age and place of birth.

Becky Hart, February 12, 1954, San Jose, CA USA

When and why did you start riding?

I started riding at age 6, with riding lessons once a week. My first horse came at age 11. As a teenager I showed horses in Jumping, English and Western Pleasure and equitation, trail horse, Arabian costume and saddle seat.

Tell us about your first horse.

When I was 11 years old, my parents bought me a Quarter Horse gelding named Tiberon. He was patient, although certainly had his own opinions. He loved dashing under low-hanging tree branches, and he tested me at first. Tiberon taught me lots especially that I needed to provide clear intention in what I asked of him. During the summer, my cousin and I would ride him from morning till night.

How and when did you know the Endurance?

I first heard about endurance at the stable where I was boarding. The owners did one ride a year and all the boarders came to crew. The ride was the Castle Rock Ride, one of the first 80K rides in the US.

When my farrier was challenged to do an endurance ride, I offered him my horse, a ¾ Arabian that I used for show. He and the horse finished the ride, and since the horse was fit, I decided I should try a ride. After my first endurance ride, I never went to another horse show.

FEI World Endurance Championship, August 01, 1990 – Stockholm (Sweden): Becky Hart / RO Grand Sultan – 1st place and Best Condition

What about endurance captured your imagination?

The next spring, I entered the Castle Rock Ride with Nusan, and finished 68th using a Western saddle! Even though I couldn’t walk for three days, just making it to the finish line felt really great. AERC has a saying, “To finish is to win.” My horse was completely happy throughout that ride, and I discovered that I enjoyed going fast, too. It opened up a whole new world for us, and our show days came to a screeching halt.

What was your greatest experience in Endurance?

I have had so many great experiences. One of the greats was winning the World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden, at the first World Equestrian Games. I had to overcome a degenerating disk in my back, nine months of no riding and extensive physical therapy to prepare. One of the other great experiences was winning the Tevis Cup ride, one of the toughest rides in the world.

1990 – Stockholm (Sweden):

How do you prepare yourself for the Endurance race?

I keep myself fit by running with the horse, working out and riding several times a week. I lay everything out – the horse tack, my clothes so nothing is forgotten the day of the ride. I have over 22,000 miles in endurance and have ridden over 40 horses, with 32 of those in the top ten. My body and brain understand what is needed, even when I am not completely fit.

One race has not yet competed and one unforgettable race.

It would have been fun to ride the original Quilty trail in Australia.

The Swanton Pacific was one of my alltime favorite trails. I rode that 100 mile ride many times. The unforgettable day was winning the very first FEI North American Championship. The trail was tough, mountainous. The trail covered

chalk ridges, went through redwood forests and went down to the Pacific Ocean. It was a beautiful magical trail.

What was your most challenging endurance ride?

It was in 1992, at the World Endurance Championships in Spain. It wasn’t so much the physical challenge of the 100-mile course, but that so many things went wrong! Rio and I were third into the first vet check, and he was the first horse to recover. But when we trotted out, we could see a rider ahead: Someone had mistakenly let a French rider go too soon. Friends radioed me that she would be penalized at the next vet check, but that never happened.

Meanwhile, Rio lost a shoe. I put on an Easy Boot, which worked until it somehow came off and wrapped itself around his ankle. Fortunately, I had a Leatherman’s tool to cut it off and

another Easy Boot to replace it. That took five valuable minutes, and the French rider was even farther ahead. At the next stop, a farrier put on new shoes, and Rio left at a gallop - his sense of humor again!

He worked so hard: over lava fields, through small villages, and past pig farms. We made up lots of time and finally reached the finish line, which was on a big polo field. We entered the field in first place, but because there were groves of shade trees and Rio was bay, people didn’t see us. No one clapped, so I knew my crew hadn’t seen us either. Then, the French rider entered - on a gray horse, which the crowd spotted - and people clapped. It wasn’t until Rio and I was halfway around the field that my crew finally saw us and roared. At last, they knew that we’d won! It felt great.

Which horse has marked your trajectory, so far, in Endurance?

Two horses: Khazen, Arabian Horse gelding. He was my first Hall of Fame horse and National Champion. He taught me how to compete, how to feed a horse. One year he did 22 races and won 17 of them.

The other horse, more well known, was R.O. Grand Sultan (Rio). He won most of his rides, including two Tevis Cup wins, two Race of Champions, two National Championships and three World Championships. He also won two North American Championships. Rio has over 10,000 miles (16,000Km) of competition. His success in endurance took me all over the world.

What about one of the most accomplished and beloved endurance horses ever, RO Grand Sultan, Rio?

When Khazen bowed his tendon, I had to find another endurance horse. I went to see one prospect hat’d had some top-10 success in endurance, and the owner said that they’d give

me a second, untried gelding for free. Both went home with me. When I entered the experienced horse in a 50-mile ride, he quit at 45 miles, and we walked to the finish. At the next ride, again he just quit. So I sold him. On the other hand, Rio liked to go. Early on, there were rocky moments: When the president of AERC looked at Rio, my horse tossed his head and broke the man’s glasses, and later his trainer rejected Rio because he was pigeon-toed.

Our first competition was the Mount Diablo 50Mile Ride. We went into the first vet check in 60th place, but Rio recovered his normal pulse and respiration so fast, that we left in 15th place. During that ride, I discovered that Rio hated to have horses ahead of him and wasn’t satisfied until he was in front. But it was his fast recoveries at our scheduled stops that gave us a win. It was a big eye opener!

Can you tell us a little more about Rio?

Rio won his first 100 mile ride, a rather impressive feat in its own right, even more so, however, since it was the demanding Tevis Cup. Rio has 10,195 miles in competition. He has completed 142 rides and has 72 wins. Rio’s

major accomplishments include 2 Tevis wins, 2 Race of Champions wins, and a reserve, 2 National Champion wins, and a National Best Condition. In the international arena he has won 2 North American Championships and a reserve and 3 World Championships. He is the only horse to have participated in 6 World Championships. His travels have taken him to Italy, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany and Holland.

Rio has shown the world what Arabian horses are capable of doing, and has been recognized for his accomplishments. His special honors include horse of the Year from the International Arabian Horse association, as well as being inducted into the American Endurance Ride Conference Hall of Fame. Rio and I have been recognized by the Chronicle of the Horse and the Hertz/American Horse Show Association as Equestrians of the Year. In 1997, Rio was awarded the “Perfect 10” award by the American Endurance Ride Conference. This award is for horses who have competed 10 or more years, gone over 10,000 miles, and at least 10 wins and 10 best conditions.

One of Rio’s more significant achievements was in 1996, at the World Championship in Kan-

sas when he finished 5th and won the coveted Best Condition Award at age 19.

Rio raced until he was 21, then he became my lesson horse. He had a great life. He was 27 when he died of lymphoma.

What titles have you won?

Two US national championships; 1 North American Championship; 3 world championships; USET Master Rider.

Other titles include US Chef d’Equipe (20082010); FEI official – 3*ground jury and 3* chief steward (now retired); US Endurance Hall of Fame; USET/Hertz Equestrian of the Year; Chronicle of the Horse Overall Horseman of the Year

What’s

your favorite ride?

The Swanton Trail in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. We ride amongst giant redwoods and along the coast. It’s fantastic!

Besides Endurance, what do you do? Do you have other activity? Which one?

I teach Centered Riding and mentor new endurance riders. I often do Centered Riding clinics for endurance and trail riders. I love

traveling all over the world and North America to help riders find comfort for themselves and their horses.

I am also an independent distributor of the Bemer, I have been using it on myself and horses. The technology increases circulation and therefore allows more oxygen to the cells. The horses love it. After a ride I never experience discomfort and my energy is unbelievable.

When I am not teaching or conditioning horses I like to read.

Do you have any superstition when you compete?

I used to always wear lucky opal earrings. No longer. No superstitions any more.

Idols: Endurance and in life.

Julie Suhr and Kathy Perry are two endurance idols that inspired me when I started the sport. They continue to inspire me.

Jaume Punti Dachs and Maria Álvarez Pontón are two more modern day endurance idols.

Sally Swift, who developed Centered Riding, and Mary Fenton, who taught me Centered Riding, changed my life. Linda Tellington- Jones was responsible for introducing me to Centered Riding. From her I learned the value of TTouch, which has helped so many animals, including my endurance horses.

Preferida Rach, one of the most decorated mares in Brazilian history, won her 7th Brazilian National title for Rach Stud in memory of her breeder Paulo Saliba. As every true champion, Preferida has given her breeders boundless achievements in and outside the arena and it is now the right moment for her to bless her new owner TP Arabians with even more successes!

The 43rd National Exhibition of the Brazilian Arabian Horse, held from July 3 to 8, in Indaiatuba, State of São Paulo, was not only charming, but also established the new standards of excellence and financial movement in the Brazilian equine sector.

“The realization of two auctions, promoted by great breeders, RFI Arabians, Rach Stud, Haras Cruzeiro and Haras JM, added an impressive economic dynamism to the event, reflecting the continuous growth and prestige of the Arabian horse in Brazil. In the end, we have many national animals exported”, celebrated Francisco (Paquito) Carrasco, president of the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA).

The event registered a record increase in registrations, totaling 350 animals. To guarantee the excellence of the endorsements, world-renowned judges were invited: Marianne Tengstedt (DK), Cristian Moschini (IT), Donnie N. Bullock (USA), Joseph Polo (USA), Luiz Edu-

ardo Moreira Caio (BRA), Nelson de Oliveira Prata P Moreira.

The 43rd Brazilian National Arabian Horse brought together passionate breeders of the Arabian breed from all over Brazil, as well as international participants from Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, the United States, Canada, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the global reach and relevance of the event that was signed as one of the greatest races in the world.

Murray Popplewell of RAE-Dawn Arabians in the United States was present at the event and expressed his admiration for the show. “I am delighted with your Arabian Horse Association. I sincerely thank you for being leaders and ambassadors for the horses we all love. You have set a very high standard and it is truly inspiring.”

This year, the exhibition was even more special due to the celebrations of ABCCA’s 60th anniversary, which included a gala dinner and the presentation of trophies for the Best of ABCCA of the Year 2023. In addition, the debut of the South American leg of the Emirates Arabian Horse Global Cup (EAHG Cup) brought an unprecedented international aspect, attracting new breeders and increasing competitiveness among participants.

One of the most memorable moments was

Preferida Rach won her 7th Brazilian title for Rach Stud

the tribute paid to businessman Paulo de Castro Marques, a renowned breeder of Arabian horses for over four decades. He was awarded the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award, recognition for his fundamental role in the development and promotion of the breed.

The exhibition was also attended by illustrious international figures who enriched the event. Among them were Abdalla Shageen, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates, and Eida Almenhali, representative of the Emirates Arabian Horse Society.

“We concluded our 43rd National Show with great success and the event exceeded all ex-

pectations. We had a record number of national and international audiences, in addition to the fantastic number of participating animals. This National Show will certainly go down in the history of the breed as one of the largest ever held,” concluded Francisco “Paquito” Carrasco, president of ABCCA.

It is a must-visit event for any Arabian horse lover and not only, and we warmly invite you to be a part of it next year from July 9 to 13, save the date!

E.S. Harir and AJ Kayya undefeated after the Fifth Stage in the Netherlands

It was a full house for the final day of the Global Champions Arabians Tour’s fifth stage in Valkenswaard, 20 and 21 July, the equestrian epicenter of the Netherlands. With an electric atmosphere, the top five Arabian horses from the qualifying classes battled for a place in the medals, and the all-important ranking points.

Throughout the two-day spectacular show, guests worldwide witnessed 121 horses from 16 countries compete for top honors in the top-class facilities at Longines Tops International Arena, which had been transformed into an orange wonderland, seamlessly fusing Dutch and Arabic cultures.

The competition in Valkenswaard was intense, with many of the top-ranking horses from the first four stages in Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat and Cannes looking to retain the top position on the tour leaderboard, edging them one step closer to the €1,000,000 prize for the leading horse of 2024.

Sultana Al Thamer, an exquisite bay yearling filly sired by Dominic M, took her first gold for Qatar’s Al Thamer Stud, bettering her silver in Muscat and bronze in Abu Dhabi. Handled by Giacomo Capacci, she won her class with 92.21 points and received six votes for gold, leading her to glory.

Afreen Al Shaqab continued his unbeatable record in the Tour, taking gold in the Yearling Colt Championship for Al Shaqab Stud with Raphael Curti on the end of the lead. Also with six votes for gold, he pipped current leading Male D Borkan into the top spot.

In the Junior Fillies Championship, Dubai Stud’s D Najla stole the hearts of the judging panel to take another gold title, following silver medals in Cannes, Muscat and Doha and a gold medal in Abu Dhabi.

As for the Junior Males, RD Rajan made a return to the ring to reign victorious in Valkenswaard for Hanaya Stud of Switzerland, scoring 93 points in his class and taking ten votes for Gold.

AJ Kayya continued her incredible journey to take the Senior Mare Championship for the U.A.E.’s Ajman for the fifth time in a row and stays at the top of the Female Leaderboard with 100 points.

The Senior Stallion Championship title went again to E.S. Harir, this time for owners Al Saqran Stud of Kuwait. This 13-year-old stallion sired by AJ Dinar remains undefeated, and only a brief absence from the Abu Dhabi stage has

kept him off the top of the Male Leaderboard. After the fifth stage of this sevenpart tour, the top three leading females, males and handlers are as follows:

This year, in an agreement with the Brazilian Equestrian Confederation (CBH) and endurance directors from several states, two Brazilian Equestrian Endurance Championships (CBEE) were organized, with different categories. The first was organized in Brasilia (July 67) and the second in São Paulo (August 2-4).

The 33rd edition of the Brazilian Equestrian Endurance Championship (CBEE) was held at Haras Endurance, located in Bragança Paulista, State of São Paulo on August 2nd and 4th; and had the participation of 142 pairs, in addition to riders from several states of Brazil, representatives from the United States, Uruguay, France, Portugal, Germany and Italy also participated..

The day before the competitions, Haras Endurance organized a lecture on High-Level Training in the World, focusing on Concept and Practice. Speakers included Sabrina Arnold, 2023 European Champion and coach of the Jean Philippe Frances Team; Pio Juan Miguel Olascoaga, a coach with 30 years of experience in Uruguay and the United Arab Emirates; Henrique Garcia, veterinarian of the Brazilian Endurance Team; and Gerson Acedo Vieira, veterinarian in the Brazilian Equestrian Endurance since 1990 and FEI veterinarian since 1996.

José Caio Frisoni Vaz Guimarães won the title for the second consecutive year in the main category, CEI3* 160 km with the 10yearold chestnut Stud Brasil Itajara (Darike x SN Perestroica). The duo completed the course in 09h58min05s with an average speed of 16.05 km/h and also won the Best Condition.

Rio de Janeiro rider José Geraldo da Costa Moreira Filho, who rode Thorin GY (*Azhar Du Barthas x Polaca Rach), was the runner-up, completing the 160 km in 10:16:38 with an average speed of 15.57 km/h.

In the CEI2* Senior 120 km category, the champion was Ana Carla Maciel with the 16-year-old grey Piva Endurance (*Uzbek Du Lion x Athenas Endurance). The pair completed the 120 km in 07:07:49 with an average speed of 14.60 km/h and also won Best Condition. In second place was José Caio Frisoni Vaz Guimarães with Sazira BV (*Azhar Du Barthas x *Arzade Cabirat) with a race time of 07:18:05 and an average speed of 17.19 km/h.

The rider from Brasília, Diogo de Oliveira Martins, won his fourth championship in the CEIYJ2* 120 km race, riding the 12yearold mare Peridot Rach (Mister Eros HX x Patrizia Rach) in

“At the 2024 CBEE, I achieved an endurance achievement that I never imagined. I remember my first Brazilian 120 km championship, in 2019, at Haras Albar. I was very excited and doing a consistent race until I was eliminated in the third stage.”

“The first title was in 2021, with a special mare, Verve Rach. Everything seemed calm when, in the first kilometers, she got scared, turned backwards, and the saddle turned, causing me to dislocate my shoulder and fall to the ground. I mounted her again and we continued running in the lead, on a very hot day, with a final sprint.”

“The 2022 CBEE was held on a track that my mare and I were already familiar with. That year, CP Latifa and I won the championship for the second time with the Rancho da Capital team. The third year was a surprise. At first, I wasn’t going to compete in the 2023 championship, until I was invited by Rach Stud to ride Zoey Kong Rach a week before the race. As always, we were ready and went with the goal of just completing the mare’s first 120 km. With this victory, I equaled the previous record for victories in the Brazilian 120 km YR Championship.”

This year, we had high expectations of winning our fourth championship and becoming the first to do so. Once again, we were very well prepared, but I knew that the race at Haras Endurance would be more difficult due to the more technical trail. Peridot Rach and I finished the last loop with the fastest time in the entire 120 km race.”

“A curious fact is that there were four consecutive years, with four different mares, and all of them completing their first 120 km. And the best thing is that they are all on Ilha da Chapada today and continue training and competing in good health!”

07:14:48 with an average speed of 17.32 km/h. In 2023 he was champion with Zoey Kong Rach (Hong Kong x Zoe Rach), in 2022 with CP Latifa (Qubilaikhan De Crouz x Eternity da Barra) and in 2021 riding Verve Rach (Voltaire Rach x Vaneska Rach by Mister Eros HX).

Isabela Steinbruch, daughter of organizer Léo Steinbruch, was the runner-up riding Equus Endurance with a time of 07:19:03 and an average speed of 17.15 km/h.

In the CEI1* 100 km Senior race, the rider from the state of Paraná, Alessandro dos Santos Silva, riding Benzema Rach (Feitizzo Rach x Benelux Rach), won the championship title in 06:18:17 with an average speed of 16.02 km/h. The runner-up was the rider from São Paulo, Leonardo Penteado Petrolli, riding Nuestro Hermano BV (Ekspresjon Rach x Anata by *Pepi).

In the Young Rider category, the young woman from the state of Paraná, Lavinya Lacalvia Ferreira with the seven-year-old gray HDM

Sweet Pallas (*Azhar Du Barthas x Von Herte Sweet Love) won the title of champion. Runner up was Eli Peres Steinbruch, another son of Léo Steinbruch, with Trinkle Endurance (Momix Endurance x Kilina HVP).

In the CEN 1* 80 km Senior race, José Antonio da Silva Machado (Toninho Machado) won the championship riding Tirado Endurance. And Alana Arrais Houdon, from Brasília, was the runner-up riding Opache H Jotinha (RT Kingol x Lettografa).

Like father, like son. Lucas Berdouche Machado, son of champion Toninho Machado, was crowned Brazilian champion in the CEN 80 km Junior race riding Bravado Rach (Atentaddo VE x Bavaria Rach).

In the CEN 80 km Young Riders race, riders from the state of Paraná Gustavo Machado Ulsenheimer riding Naizza Rach (Feitizzo Rach x La Nouba Endurance) and Sofia Barcik Goria with RAAV da Capital (Moscow Endurance

Ana Carla Maciel and Piva Endurance

“We are very happy with the victory in the Brazilian Championship for Young Horses and with the performance of Djebel I Endurance, a young horse that has shown himself to be increasingly capable of being a great endurance horse. Son of *Djebel Du Barthas out of Tarsila Endurance, he showed consistency and strength as well as a very good cardiac recovery. We are looking forward to the future of Djebel I. In endurance we never expect to win or lose, because there are many kilometers for adversity to happen and we always hope to have a good race with the horse in good shape. The plans now for Djebel 1 are to do another 100 km race this year and next year, to start him in the 120 km race”,

José Caio Frisoni Vaz Guimarães and Djebel I Endurance

x Rave HEB) became champion and runner-up champion respectively.

Felizardo da Costa Brandão riding Bim Albar (RSC El Deb Haran x Algenib VE) won his second title in the CEN 60 km Seniors race, while runner-up went to Carolina Prado de Azevedo riding Juma Endurance (*Moubarak Tawfik x Roma Endurance).

Miguel Padovani with Cusco Endurance won the national title in the CENYR 60 km race.

Leo Steinbruch, organizer of the event and owner of Haras Endurance, also highlighted the high level of the competition. “In terms of sport, we have seen proof of the quality of our participants. There is no doubt that in Brazil we breed horses that can compete anywhere in the world.”

Ricardo Saliba, Vice President of Events at

Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association, highlighted the complexity of the competition, noting that the route was quite technical due to the varied terrain, which included hills, ascents and descents, in addition to the intense heat. “The race demanded a lot from the teams, both horses and riders”.

“Among the highlights of the race, we had two pairs that even participated in the Pan-American Games in Chile: Stud Brasil Itajara with José Caio Vaz Guimarães, two-time Brazilian champions in the 160 km, who won an individual bronze medal, and Piva Endurance with Ana Carla Maciel, Brazilian champions in the 120 km. I would also like to highlight the four-time championship in the 120 km of the Young Riders by Diogo Martins with Peridot Rach.”.

On July 6th and 7th, the Brazilian Equestrian Endurance Championship (CBEE) and the 3rd Stage of the Brasília Equestrian Endurance Cup were held at the Brasília Country Club in Brasília.

The CBEE was composed of the following categories: Young Horses CEI1*/CEN1* 100 km and CEIYR1*/CENYR 100 km for animals up to 8 years of age; Top Ladies CEI1*/CEN1* 100km; Ladies CEN 80 km; Master CEN 60km for riders aged 55 and over on race day.

José Caio Frisoni Vaz Guimarães, who rode Djebel I Endurance (*Djebel Du Barthas x Tarsila Endurance), won the title in the Young Horses category. Runner-up was the rider from Minas Gerais, Renato Salvador with Cazares D’Jok Trio (*D’Jok Py x RT Crysti); followed by the race organizer and endurance director from Brasília, Fernando Gonçalves Costa / Grand Lion Rach (Lion King Rach x Grace Rach).

The title of Brazilian Top Ladies champion went to the representative from Brasília Laura Costa Borges riding Akthos Rach (Voltaire Rach x Aketa). The runner-up was the rider from the

state of Minas Gerais Gabriela Moreira de Abreu with Hanke Apprentice (*Thee Apprentice x Hami Vasc).

Isabela Brandão Gois who rode Frozen Trio (*Exceptionn x Favorita D’Jok Trio) won the national title in the Ladies CEN 80 km category.

The Master CEN 60 km champion title was won by the rider from Brasília Amarildo Figueiredo de Oliveira with Artik HNP (Sommant HNP x RSC Andorra), followed by Márcio Marcelino riding Blues Master Rach (Mister Eros HX x Blue Note Rach), a horse that started in Arabian horse racing competing and winning at the Jockey Club of São Paulo.

In the other races of the 3rd Stage of the Copa Brasília, the winners were: Gustavo Machado Ulsenheimer with Liverpol Rach in the CEIYR1* 100 km race, followed by Diogo de Oliveira Martins riding Ashir RM.

Costanza Laliscia wins Zigulì FEI Endurance European

A spectacular epilogue indeed for the Test Event of the Zigulì FEI Endurance European Championship 2025 today in Castiglione del Lago (Italy).

A thrilling three-rider sprint after 160 kilometers determined the winner of the CEI3*, a competition qualified as a Test Event for next year’s European Championship.

The gritty and determined winner is the house multi-champion, Costanza Laliscia. On her nine-year-old Arab, Zagara di Chia (Bonorvesu x Gemmha by Veinard Al Maury), she left behind the Spanish duo: Omar Blanco Rodrigo with Fatal (Ghawan Aljassimya x Formi by Gazal Al Shaqab) and Maite Pradera Ledo with Sarabi d’Abalume (Cuper x Cruela Dabalume by Quasar De La Nie), who finished in that order.

For the leading trio, an overall average of 17.097 km/h for an overall time of 9 hours, 21 minutes and 30 seconds and a final loop, the sixth, with an average of 22.684 km/hr.

The competition started at dawn, with the first rays of the sun; it was a testing competition not only for the ordinary stamina required for a toplevel CEI3* (160 km.), but also for the very high temperatures.

Costanza Laliscia said: “It’s a great emotion. I am very happy. My mare immediately gave me the feeling that we could vie for a result, but when you compete, you know, nothing can be taken for granted until you cross the finish line. The key to this test happened in the penultimate stage. Twenty-six kilometres away from the finish line, at the water point, I realised that the Spanish riders ahead of me had not stopped to allow their horses to drink, so I did the same. I caught up with them shortly thereafter and we rode through the last ring together”.

The CEI3* 160 km Test Event was the highlight of a program that included two other categories on the same day. The 120km CEI2* conquered by the Italian Nicola Erculei with Shamal dei Laghi (14.754 km/h), and the 101km CEI1* won by Valentina Galli (ITA) riding Burgos (17.048 km/h).

The green region of Umbria, the heart of the ‘Bel Paese’, hosted the Zigulì FEI Endurance European Championship 2025 in Castiglione del Lago, near Perugia.

Technical, testing and tough. These are three words used by riders, technical officials and insiders at the end of the competition about the course characterised by long flat stretches and slight ups and downs with a view of Lake Trasimeno winding through a landscape of rare beauty.

Rocio Echeverri president of the ground jury, appointed by FEI, said: b“The competition today was tough and technical. It has been very hot all day. The riders that came in the first places in the CEI3*, in the 160-km competition, are those who demonstrated throughout the entire day that they managed well their horses well. They did an outstanding job in these very difficult conditions.”

L-R: Omar Blanco Rodrigo with Fatal, Maite Pradera Ledo with

the Test Event of the European Championship 2025

“The horses that we saw finishing are the horses that are fit to continue, that are in top condition, and it has been a very good day because of that, because riders took care of their horses, especially in the CEI3*160 km. The venue is amazing. I think it’s definitely a world championship venue. It’s very well organized. When we have a test event, we test everything, the officials, the system, the venue so as to make sure that everything runs smoothly when the championship actually comes. The organizing committee has a lot of experience, so they know how to set it up. I’m very happy and very excited that this will be the host venue for the European Championship in 2025”.

The former Eleuteri airport has been the starting and finishing point of a course that is already highly appreciated for the quality of the ground and for the gently sloping terrain that makes it one of the most suitable locations for top-level endurance competitions.

The 15 participating riders started the CEI2* 120 km race at 7 am. Nicola Erculei riding Shamal Dei Laghi was first placed, followed by

with Sarabi d’Abalume and Costanza Laliscia with Zagara di Chia
Costanza Laliscia with Zagara di Chia

Patrizia Cianferoni with Urpinu and Luca Bucarekki riding Bidunele Di Barbagia in second and third place respectively.

At 7:30 am the 17 competitors of the CEI1* 101 km race started, with Valentina Galli riding Burgos as the champion. Mariachiara Fagiani with Haifa Du Barthas finished in second place followed by Zubaidah Ali Sabti Al Ali Basha riding Baggio De Luriecq.

Castiglione del Lago

A total of 31 international competitions have been organized in Castiglione del Lago (Italy) since the year 2000, including 12 Italian Championships. The FEI Endurance European Championship 2025 (June 21,2025) will be the second edition of the continental championship hosted in the Castiglione del Lago venue and the third in Umbria, considering the Meydan FEI Endurance European Championship 2009 Open in Assisi.

Al Ghadeer wins Qatar International Stakes for 2nd time in a row

Winner of six Gr.1 PA, the incredible colt Al Ghadeer (Al Mourtajez x Gharra’a) landed the Gr.1 PA Qatar International Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival on day two of the meeting, Wednesday, 31st July.

Still cantering easily entering the final straight, the superb colt went clear despite a late challenge from Al Wakrah (TM Fred Texas x Majida) but Al Ghadeer found more without forcing his talent and won by one length.

The 2024 renewal of the Doha Cup was landed by the Al Shaqab Racing-owned Nour Al Maury (Azadi x Nectarina Al Maury) for trainer Thomas Fourcy and jockey Christophe Soumillon while the Al Rayyan Cup was won by the Sultan Hamad Matar Omaira Al Shamsi-owned Bianca de Gazal (Al Mourtajez x Brin d’Amour de Gazal) for trainer X. Thomas-Demeaulte and jockey Maxime Guyon.

After a winning return in the Gr.1 (PA) Sheikh Mansoor Festival - Critérium des Pouliches last month, the fiveyearold Nour Al Maury took the Gr.1 (PA) Doha Cup Prix Manganate and is now a six-time Gr.1 (PA) winner.

Nour Al Maury travelled well in third in a race led by Soko (Nieshan) at a slow tempo. Not happy with the pace Christophe Soumillon went forward to sit half a length of the leader. Still not pressed on when the pace lifted, the fantastic mare went clear to win by two lengths.

The well fancied Abbes (TM Fred Texas) ran on for second while RB Kingmaker (Baseq Al Khalediah) took third. Winning trainer said after the race: “A very good ride from Christophe Soumil-

Bianca De Gazal ridden by Maxime Guyon

lon. She started to be keen but he decided to go forward. The filly was ready to roll; she made a pleasing return last month.”

“Thanks to Al Shaqab for encouraging me to supplement her as it was not the plan. She always showed ability as a three-year-old but she was more keen and very light physically. But now she travelled, she’s been well looked after by Olivier Peslier who always respected her and today it pays off.”

Bred by Mlle Renee-Laure Koch, Nour Al Maury is out of Nectarina Al Maury (Jalnar Al Khalidiah) and a full sister to Gr.2 PA winner No Reply Al Maury (Azadi).

Thirty minutes earlier, the three-year-old, Bianca De Ghazal landed the Gr.1 (PA) Al Rayyan Cup - Prix Kesberoy on her second start, having made an excellent debut to the competition when second at La Teste last month.

With Nahaba (Al Mamun Monlau) leading the race at a slow pace, Bianca De Ghazal was happy to wait in final pair in company with Mahsoub (Al Mourtajez).

Once the pace lifted entering the final straight, the superb filly showed a good turn of foot to lead inside the final 300m. She quickly pulled clear to win by two and half lengths. The favourite Mureb (Gazwan) finished second while the freegoing Al Jori (Al Mamun Monlau) took third.

Winning jockey said after the race: “Xavier told me that he likes her a lot. We rode her today for a place but she proved that she was too good. We didn’t go very fast early on and that’s why a few horses were pulling. But my filly really accelerated strongly.”

Bred by Haras De Ghazal EARL Al Pices, she is out of Brin D’Amour De Gazal (Zippy Al Maury, who is a full sister to Gr.3 PA winner Boum De Ghazal (Zippy Al Maury), and a half-sister to Listed placed Bellisima De Ghazal (Munjiz).

Passamarie Rach wins by half-head in her debut race

On Saturday, August 17th, the Cidade Jardim Racecourse hosted an extraordinary race with two debuting animals battling side by side to win the Prêmio Wathba Stallions Cup For Colts & Fillies IV.

The three-year-olds greys Passamarie Rach and Cromo D´Jok Trio, staged the most exciting finish of this season when they crossed together with just a halfhead advantage over Passamarie.

Prêmio Wathba Stallions Cup For Colts & Fillies IV was contested over 1,000m on turf for 3-yearold and older and had the participation of seven animals, four of which were debutants in races at the Jockey Club of São Paulo: 5-year-old chestnut Stud Brasil Gávea (Stud Brasil Mondesir x *Manari by Dormane), Passamarie Rach (Mared Al Sahra x Passion Rach by Vaillant Rach), Cromo D´Jok Trio (*D´Jok Py x RT Crysti by Nawwak NA) and Jazzy Rach (*Elferus x *Jazzla CME by Hariry Al Shaqab).

The race began to take shape at the start of the finishing straight with an attack from the inside by Passamarie Rach, driven by Ruberlei Viana, and Stud Brasil Gávea, ridden by Jeane Alves, while Cromo D´Jok Trio, under the guidance of apprentice jockey Danilo Novais Ap3, attacked from the outside.

The daughter of Passion Rach, champion of four races and winner of the only Group 1 race, Grand Prix Al Maktoum Cup on November 11, 2018, takes the lead being attacked strongly by Cromo D´Jok Trio, who pairs up in the final meters also looking for the victory. However, Passamarie Rach, bred and owned by Rach Stud, crosses first with ½ a head ahead.

Stud Brasil Gávea took third place, followed by Flórida Rach and Jazzy Rach in fourth and fifth places respectively.

Trainer Lucas Quintana commented: “Today was the debut of Passamarie Rach, an excellent mare who demonstrated all her potential in training. It was a very close race at the end with Cromo D´Jok Trio, a runner, side by side, but we won by half a head. She has an excellent heart and pedigree, which gives us hope for many more victories.”

Jockey Ruberlei Viana said: “I really liked Passamarie’s performance in the race, as she is an easy mare to handle and has plenty of stamina for longer distances. In training she already demonstrated this ease and desire to run.”

Ricardo Jamil Saliba, breeder and owner of Passamarie Rach, stated that “it was an exciting, high-level race, with highlights for the four debutants, three of whom had French blood, which shows an evolution because they are animals born in Brazil with a very important base in any equestrian sport. Depending on the number of animals, we will have races of all levels, because we still have many animals from classic bloodlines. The tendency is for us to have more animals with international standards.”

Almir José Ribeiro, Racing Director of the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association, organizer of the race, said: “First of all, we would like to thank the trust of our sponsor HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of the Presidential Court and Chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority; who has been honoring and promoting the consolidation of Arabian Horse racing in Brazil since 2015, especially Miss Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival, who has always highlighted our races in the Wathba Stallions Cup World Calendar.”

“This race showed that we have three animals that will brighten up our next racing season and with the increase in distances and the change to dirt anything can happen.”

“Congratulations to the Saliba Family who once again presents the world with a great winner who has the responsibility of bringing as much glory as her mother Passion Rach who simply marked an Era in Arabian Horse Racing in Brazil.”

“Congratulations also to Haras Trio and Stud Brasil for also bringing two more great competitors who will surely win in Cidade Jardim.”

Ozymandias Rach wins second consecutive record-breaking race

As if it were a replay, the three-year-old gray colt Ozymandias Rach, once again ridden by Ruberlei Viana, achieved a second consecutive victory in the fourth race of the Wathba Stallions Cup for Fillies & Colts III held on July 29 at the Cidade Jardim Racecourse, Jockey Club of São Paulo.

Disputed over 1,200 meters on dirt for 3-year-old and older, the pair repeated the difference of 7 ¾ lengths of advantage this time over his halfbrother Õmega Rach (*Uzbek Du Lion x Orchestra Rach by Vaillant Rach), who was ridden by Gabriel Santana, in addition to breaking the record in the 1,200 meters on dirt with a time of 1:22:787.

The Wathba Stallions Cup, which is part of the international calendar of HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival, began to take shape at the entrance to the final straight when, attacking from the outside, Ozymandias Rach took the lead and maintained it until the end.

The battle between Ômega Rach and RG Kalifa (Cáceres CSM x Caldas CSM by Pavel Rach), ridden by Jeane Alves, for second place was exciting and it was decided in the last few meters, when Ômega Rach, in an excellent sprint on the outside, secured the position.

Bred and owned by Claúdio Guimarães Ribas and trained by Estanislau Petrochinski, RG Kalifa and RG El Bak (RG Karat x *Endora by Wojslaw) finished in third and fourth places respectively

“We at Rach Stud are very happy with this second consecutive victory by Ozymandias and for breaking the 1,200-meter record that had stood for 11 years; and also for showing the consistency of our bloodlines, since Orchestra Rach won important races in Cidade Jardim. Two of her sons shined and for the first time a double between two brothers from the same mare. I want to

highlight that this was Ômega Rach’s first race after a period away and he gave us this joy with the second place. We are very hopeful for both of them, because we know that in the coming months we will have tough races with animals that are just arriving and experienced animals that are returning”, stated Ricardo Jamil Saliba.

Trainer Lucas Quintana said: “It was a wonderful race in which Ozymandias showed that he is an exceptional colt with a lot of potential. And double happiness with Omega, who after some time away for treatment, returned with great determination and secured second place. We were blessed with a beautiful race and a double with the exceptional products of Rach Stud.”

Almir José Ribeiro, Racing Director of the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA), stated: “Firstly, I would like to thank the trust of our sponsor HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of the Presidential Court and Chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority; who has honored and encouraged the consolidation of Arabian horse racing in Brazil since 2015, especially Miss Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival, who has always highlighted our races in the Wathba Stallions Cup World Calendar.”

“My thanks to ABCCA and our breeders who always support us and put the best of their breeding in this showcase of horse sport that is the Jockey Club of São Paulo, which welcomes us with open arms for another great spectacle that was this race.”

“Ozymandias Rach’s undisputed victory and the breaking of a record set by the icon Atentaddo VE more than 10 years ago, which proves the strength and the great leap in quality that the Saliba family’s breeding has been implementing with each new generation of Arabian sport horses in Brazil.”

Abiyah Athbah winner of HH Shekha Fatima Bint Mubara Cup at Royal Windsor

Abiyah Athbah, the UK’s highest rated mare finally got deserved black type success in the £20,000 HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Cup, a Group 2PA contest held over six furlongs at Royal Windsor on June 29th.

Partnered by Phil Dennis she was in command from the outset and was never headed. Upstart Crow and Darragh Keenan tried to challenge, but lacked the mare’s turn of foot and had to settle for third place as stablemate, Fareedhat El Izz and Adam Farragher stayed on for second. Farragher was sporting a black armband in memory of the late Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Nujaifi, father of owner breeder Dr Mohammed Al Nujaifi who passed way earlier this week.

This was the first running of the race under the sponsorship of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Festival, who support ten races in the UK this season and 150 globally, culminating in the Group 1PA HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown in Abu Dhabi in December.

Jockey Phil Dennis said: “It’s my first Group winner ever, whether it’s Arabian or thoroughbred I’ll certainly take it. I rode her over a mile last time at Doncaster and she actually rallied towards the line so dropping back to six I was fairly keen to make plenty of use of her. She probably visually looks keener than she is,

she’s enthusiastic, but never over cooking it, it went right for her today.”

Lara Sawaya, Executive Director of the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival commented, “It’s been a beautiful day at Royal Windsor for Ladies Day, we have the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Cup won by Abiyah Athbah, a mare, and owned by Jenny Lees of Dilmun Racing, so it is very appropriate. We thank HE Mansoor Abulhoul Al Falasi, the UAE Ambassador to the UK for attending today and assisting with the trophy presentation.”

Genny Haynes, ARO Chief Executive Officer said, “We thank HE Mansoor Abulhoul Al Falasi and Lara Sawaya for attending today for the Festival’s most prestigious UK Arabian race. We are delighted for the win of Abiyah Athbah who always gives her best on the track and we congratulate Jenny Lees, Peter Hammersley and Phil Dennis who are all winning their first Arabian Group race today and also Abiyah Athbah’s groom Sue Wileman who won the Racing Welfare Best Turned Out Award presented by Chloe Martin.”

Fulminzef ridden by Stefano Raimondo

Fulminzef and Divino champions of the Sheikha Fatima and Sheikh Zayed Cups in Rome

The favorites lived up to expectations in the two listed races that took place at the Capannelle racecourse in Rome, on September 22, for the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival. First Fulminzef dispersed his opponents in the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Cup, and then it was Divino who clearly imposed himself in the Sheikh Zayed Bint Sultan Al Nahyan Cup.

Among the 3 years in the 1800 meters, Fulminzef (photo above) abwas the protagonist of a victorious trajectory as leader with Stefano Raimondo. Out in the saddle, the chestnut bred by Salvatorica Nazarena Tilocca and trained by Massimiliano Narduzzi for Scuderia Clodia advanced decisively in the straight crossing alone in first place.

Fulminzef, son of Mu’azzaz and Zefira By Bonorvesu, took his fifth victory in six races.

“With the lateral sales, Fulminzef became more focused. He is an excellent horse, but still in the growth and finishing phase”, commented trainer Narduzzi.

In the challenging 2200-meter distance of the Sheikh Zayed Bint Sultan Al Nahyan Cup

race, Divino with Nino Murru followed the movements of the leader Mak’amera, followed by Ellenoditrexenta.

The leader tried to keep the race going until the final straight, but in the final 400 meters the grey, trained by Leonardo Chessa for Scuderia San Giuliano, changed the pace and he isolated himself from Mak’amera. Ellenoditrexenta attacked the mare for second place, but had to back off in the final stage.

Divino is a 5-year-old son of Divamer out of Sorasi, bred by Domenico Manca: he has 7 wins and 7 places in 16 races. In 2022 he finished 3rd in the list of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Cup and, above all, in 2023 he finished 4th in Group 2 of the Milan UAE President Cup. Sidelined by an injury, the grey returned to the track last May and since then he has collected 3 wins and 2 places in 5 races. Before the race in Rome, he had already scored in Chilivani two weeks ago at the Bebbo Ardu Memorial.

“Winning outside Sardinia is always good. Divino gave us good indications and that’s why we believed in a performance like this. And now we go to Milan, for the Group 3 race, on October 13th”, commented Chessa.

The race, designated for horses aged four years and above over a distance of 1,720 metres, with a total prize money of 5,000 euros, was full of excitement, as “Gute de Lagarde” was able to snatch the title from the undefeated horse and the first candidate, “Hermes de Etoile”with the jockey Ivan Yordanov, and under the supervision of Julian. Yordanov, wtih the jockey Arif Marnov, recording a time of 1:53:10 minutes, while “Maria” with the jockey Ivan

Yordanov, supervised by Yuliyan Yordanov, with the jockey Yuli Asenov came in third place.

The festival includes races for the crown jewel of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Zayed Cup, the Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Cup, the Al Wathba “Stallions” Cup, and the World Forum for Purebred Arabian Horse Racing.

The first races of the festival started last January, with new races being added this season in 2024, and 150 local and international races will be organized around the world, including races from the categories classified as the first, second and third categories.

The organization of Al Wathba Cup race is part of the festival’s strategy with the support and encouragement of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court in UAE, with the aim of supporting small owners and breeders in most countries of the world and motivating them to increase interest in Arabian horses by organizing suitable races for them in all countries of the world.

Passamarie Rach takes second consecutive victory

Passamarie Rach won the Grand Prix UAE President Cup Series For Fillies by 1 and ¼ lengths over her stablemate Normandia Rach; followed by Stud Brasil Gávea in third place.

After an indefinite race until the final 400 meters, jockey Idevaldo Silva, who was riding the three-year-old grey, Passamarie Rach, took advantage of the moment when Normandia Rach, ridden by Michael Silva, overtook on the outside and attacked on the inside, thus taking the lead in the race.

Normandia Rach continued in pursuit, but Passamarie Rach managed to maintain the pace, opening up a 1 and 1/4 length advantage to cross the finish line in first place, thus confirming her favoritism in the race.

The Grand Prix UAE President Cup Series For Fillies, which is part of the UAE President Cup Arabian Purebred Classic South America Mondial Brazil, was held over 1,400 meters on turf for fillies –yearold and older at the Hipódromo de

Cidade Jardim, Jockey Club de São Paulo, organized by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA).

Both Passamarie Rach (Mared Al Sahra x Passion Rach by Vaillant Rach) and Normandia Rach (*Uzbek Du Lion x Novella Rach by Voltaire Rach) are bred and owned by Rach Stud and trained by Lucas Quintana.

Ricardo Jamil Saliba, from Rach Stud, highlighted the importance of the victory: “This was Passamarie’s second victory, who is a daughter of Mared Al Sahra and her name is a tribute to Mared’s mother, Massamarie, who is a mare I admire a lot. It was her second race and second victory and we believe she will improve a lot, as she had an excellent race time. I would like to highlight the second place of Normandia Rach, who had been away for a while and returned in very good shape.”

“The battle between the two was very beautiful, which made us very proud to have two

Photos: Porfírio Menezes

Rach animals competing for first place. Passamarie’s difference is her dam, Passion Rach, champion of four races and winner of the only Group 1 race, Al Maktoum Cup Grand Prix on November 11, 2018.”

Trainer Lucas Quintana said that “Passamarie Rach is an excellent filly; she won her first race 45 days ago and had already shown all her class and evolved much more. She proved to be a racing animal that gave us a show today, as she is sired by Mared Al Sahra with the best mare we have had to date, Passion Rach.”

Jockey Idevaldo Silva declared: “It was a very well-contested race at the beginning and I was waiting for the right moment to attack, because Passamarie is a filly that likes to run and doesn’t give up. In the final 400 meters, we managed to overtake Normandia Rach and I tried to open up as much as possible because she and Michael were right behind us. It was exciting to win this big prize with her.”

“First of all, I would like to thank our sponsor HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his trust in us, who has honored and encouraged the consolidation of Arabian horse rac-

ing in Brazil; and especially to H.E. Faisal Al Hamani for his trust in our Arabian horse racing program, which continues our fifth year of activities as our sponsor”, declared Almir José Ribeiro, racing director at ABCCA

“In the Grand Prix UAE President Cup Series For Fillies we had the undisputed victory of Passamarie Rach, who certainly came to make history and be another of Mared Al Sahra’s sons to stand out in the history of Arabian racing horses in Brazil. Congratulations once again to the Saliba Family for bringing yet another great champion who, like her mother Passion Rach, will shine in the upcoming races in Cidade Jardim. She will certainly be the statistical leader of her generation. Also worthy of mention is Normandia, who once again had another brilliant race, and the performance of Stud Brasil Gávea, which made this competition even more brilliant.”

The Grand Prix UAE President Cup For Fillies was organized by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association in partnership with the Jockey Club of São Paulo.

Omega Rach achieves third victory and second in a row at the President Cup

The four-year-old gray Ômega Rach, once again ridden by Ruberlei Viana, wins the Grand Prix UAE President Cup Series for Colts and achieves his second victory in the races that are part of the UAE President Cup South America Mondial Brazil, being the first on August 31.

The race was contested over 1400 meters on turf for 3-years-old and older and was held at the Cidade Jardim Hipódromo, at the Jockey Club of São Paulo, organized by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA).

After a fierce dispute between Passionaddo Rach (Atentaddo VE x Passion Rach by Vaillant Rach) and Cromo D’Jok Trio (*D´Jok Py x RT Crysti by Nawwak NA) until the entrance of the final straight, Õmega Rach (*Uzbek Du Lion x Orchestra Rach by Vaillant Rach), who was in third, started attacking from the inside and took the lead of the race, easily distancing himself from the other competitors, winning the Grand Prix with 5 ½ lengths of advantage and a time of 1:34.974.

Meanwhile, RG El Bak (RG Karat x *Endora by Wojslaw), ridden by Idevaldo Silva, increases the pace and attacks from the inside, taking

second place and maintaining it until the end, followed by Passionaddo Rach driven by Jeffecleone Bispo.

Breeder and owner Ricardo Jamil Saliba, from Rach Stud, reflected emotionally on Omega Rach’s victory: “This was his third victory and it’s been a week of mixed feelings, as we lost his mother, Orchestra Rach, our best racing mare at the moment. This victory is a tribute to her, who is also the mother of other exceptional animals. Orchestra was the best mare of the year in racing in 2016 and won the most valuable race of the year.”

“Both Passamarie and Ômega Rach are products of winning mares, which consecrates a second generation of winning racing animals from Rach Stud, which is a source of great pride for all of us”, emphasized Saliba.

Trainer Lucas Quintana praised the winner’s performance: “Ômega Rach lived up to our expectations, ran very well and won with confidence. He is the son of Orchestra Rach, with whom we won some races. I won Grand Prix with Passion, Orchestra, Passamarie and today with Ômega and I couldn’t be happier. He whis-

pered in my ears during training that he would win.”

It is already a trademark of trainer Quintana, when asked before the races who will win, he says which animal will win, as he whispered in his ear that he would win the race.

Almir José Ribeiro, Racing Director at ABCCA, commented: “At the UAE President Cup Series for Colts Grand Prix we once again had another great race in which Omega Rach won again with great authority and shows once again that he is also one of the great highlights of breeding. of Rach Stud making history in Cidade Jardim; giving no chance to RG El Bak who with each performance shows that he is also one of the highlights of Arabian horse racing at the Jockey Club of São Paulo.”

“Passionaddo Rach also surprised by leav-

ing one of the favorites for this Grand Prix in fourth place and illustrates that well-known phrase: races are races. Congratulations, once again, to the Saliba Family and breeder Claudio Roberto Guimarães Ribas for another brilliant race in Cidade Jardim.”

“We would like to thank the trust of our sponsor HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has honored and encouraged the consolidation of Arabian horse racing in Brazil; and especially H.E. Faisal Al Hamani for his trust in our Arabian horse racing program, which continues our fifth year of activities as our sponsor.”

The Grand Prix UAE President Cup For Colts was organized by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association in partnership with the Jockey Club of São Paulo.

Cromo D’Jok Trio Achieves First Victory

After a brilliant and exciting debut in August in which he lost by half a head, the fiveyearold gray Cromo D’Jok Trio takes his first victory with a 5 and ¼ length advantage over the others in the UAE President Cup Series For Colts & Fillies II, held on September 21 at the Cidade Jardim Racecourse, at the Jockey Club of São Paulo.

In a balanced race in which the animals alternated in search of first place until the entrance of the big straight, Cromo D’Jok Trio (*D´Jok Py x RT Crysti by Nawwak NA), even straying from the others in the two curves of the trail , attacks from the outside under the excellent guidance of apprentice jockey Danilo Novais, takes the lead, moves away and leaves the battle for second place between Stud Brasil Gávea (Stud Brasil Mondesir x *Manari by Dormane) ridden by Jeane Alves and Monsenhor Rach (Seraphin Du Paon x Musa Rach by *Polonez) piloted by Ruberlei Viana.

The fight for second place was intense and was only decided in the final meters and here we must highlight the performance of Stud Brasil Gávea who in each race has shown all his ability to run and face the males of the Arabian breed in Cidade Jardim on equal terms. Special

highlight for Monsenhor Rach who divided the public’s attention until the final arrival.

Trainer Thiago Haidar celebrated: “Cromo’s victory gives us hope for a promising future for him in racing. From his early training sessions to his debut, he showed that he would be competitive. On that occasion, he didn’t win because he wasn’t fully ready yet. Now, more mature and prepared, he demonstrated his qualities by winning with a large advantage. Apparently, the greater the distance, the better for him, and we have high expectations for his future.”

“Cromo had an excellent start and today he showed what he’s good at, running and winning. In the debut race he was still adapting and even so we almost won. At the start of the straight I was sure that we would win because when we attacked from the outside we distanced ourselves from the others and it was just a matter of managing to cross and first place”, declared apprentice jockey Novais.

Renato Salvador, owner of Haras Trio, declares that the result proves the sporting prowess of Cromo’s family. “I followed Paulo and Ricardo Saliba’s tireless work to introduce Arabian horse races in Brazil. Pedro Lana always

encouraged me to test a son of D Jok Py in races. It is important to start with a horse that has a racehorse pedigree and choose a competent and serious trainer, in this case Thiago Haidar.”

“Cromo’s father is our main stallion, D Jok Py, who now lives in France and comes from a family with a strong athletic background. One of his daughters, Allure BV, won the 1000 meters on turf and broke the Brazilian record for the distance. In addition, D Jok Py has proven offspring in Endurance, with victories in 100, 120 and 160 races. Cromo has great potential and we hope he will give us great victories like his brothers have given us in Endurance.”

Almir José Ribeiro, Racing Director of the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA) said: “The undisputed victory of Cromo D’Jok Trio proves its superiority in this important race, and makes it clear once and for all that the bloodlines of our Arabian Endurance Horse are also accredited to shine in the Arabian Horse races in Cidade Jardim. Congratulations to the breeder Renato Salvador, who with each race begins to write his story now in Cidade Jardim.”

“It is important to highlight that this new generation of animals that are in Cidade Jardim are already part of our Arab Sport Horse breeding program, being much more competitive and, therefore, we should certainly have increasingly competitive arrivals that provide an excellent show for spectators and for our breeders who, each year, place our Arabian Horse on an increasingly competitive level.”

“I would like to thank our sponsors, especially the trust of our sponsor HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of the Presidential Court and Chairman of the Emirates Racing Authority; H.E Mr Faisal Al Hamani, CEO of the UAE President Cup, for their trust in the Arabian horse racing program in Brazil and for our fifth year of activities as our sponsor. And also the ABCCA and our breeders who practically took over Cidade Jardim on this sunny winter Saturday.”

Omega Rach wins UAE President Cup I Award

Passionaddo Rach and Ômega Rach fought a fantastic battle for first place in the UAE President Cup For Colts & Fillies I from the start until the final 500 meters, when Omega took the lead and held it until the end, taking the victory with a 4 and ¼ length advantage.

The race held over 1300 meters on turf for 3-year-old and older is part of the UAE President Cup South America Mondial Brazil and took place on August 31 at the Cidade Jardim Hippodrome, at the Jockey Club of São Paulo, organized by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA).

The standout performer of the race was four-year-old grey Ômega Rach, ridden by jockey Ruberlei Viana, who crossed the finish line in 1:30.154 followed by his stablemate Passionaddo Rach, ridden by Jeffecleone Bispo.

Omega Rach (*Uzbek Du Lion x Orchestra Rach), who already had one victory under his belt, is the maternal brother of Ozymandias Rach (Sir Bani Yas x Orchestra Rach), another Rach Stud stallion with two victories, he was away from racing for a period of São Paulo racing and returned in style in this 2024 season,

achieving two second places before winning the UAE President Cup I Award.

Trainer Lucas Quintana commented: “Orchestra Rach’s sons are showing their full potential this year. In this race Omega showed that he is a horse that likes to run on grass and had a wonderful battle with Passionaddo and we won first and second place and we are confident in the next races.”

“We are very pleased with the two first places. Omega Rach was inactive for a period, but he returned in excellent form and shows that he is ready to face the great prizes that are to come. He will be one of Rach Stud’s stallions, as he is an animal that we greatly admire due to both his father’s and his mother’s genetics. Regarding Passionaddo Rach, he surprised us because running on grass is not his specialty and won an honorable second place”, declared the breeder and owner Ricardo Jamil Saliba.

Luwsail wins UAE President Cup in Doncaster

The four-year-old Luwsail (Al Mourtajez) continued to improve by landing the Gr.1 (PA) UAE President Cup (UK Arabian Derby) which took place at Doncaster on Saturday, August 17th.

With Ioritz Mendizabal in the saddle and trained by François Rohaut, Luwsail was third in the Gr.1 (PA) Qatar Derby des Pur-Sang Arabes de 4 Ans on last start. The Purebred Arabian reversed the form with favourite Extra Time (Valiant Boy).

“The pace was slow and my horse doesn’t gallop relaxed, he was already pulling 500m after the start. The trainer asked me to wait because he has a very good finish. He’s a very good horse”, said Ioritz Mendizabal

Owned and bred by Al Shaqab Racing, Luwsail is now a Gr.1 PA winner.

With all the runners racing keenly due to a lack of pace set by Amirat Al Zaman (Hilal Al Zaman), Luwsail was waiting in rear. Waiting for room over 3 furlongs out and going really easy, the homebred struggled to find a way out. Inside the final furlong, the superb colt finally found a tiny gap to lead in the last strides. Extra Time ran on for second while Molfit (Al Mourtajez) went third.

Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, Luwsai is out of Al Dowha (Munjiz), who is a half-sister to Gr.3 (PA) placed Al Hayyem (Amer) and Gr.3 placed (PA) Al Nashmi (Majd Al Arab).
