Al Shahania Stud
Al Shahania Stud — Qatar The Al Shahania farm in Qatar is perhaps the most beautiful in the country, with its rural setting, palm-shaded pastures and stunning barns with over 200 stalls. Amenities include an equine pool and 2,000-meter training track, making this a showplace befitting the champion residents.

rom the palm-shaded paddocks at the farm outside Doha, Qatar, to the gentle, rolling farmland of Normandy with its old-fashioned charm, the Al Shahania Stud facilities reflect the exquisite taste and discerning eye of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani. They are fitting homes for more than 350 Arabian race and show horses. After 30 years of breeding Arabian horses and achieving the highest possible honors in the realms of Arabian racing and showing, HH Sheikh Mohammed is still driven by the pursuit of excellence. In Doha, manager Alexandra Newman presides over the daily operation of the farm. “It is a team effort that creates the greatness of Al Shahania Stud,” she says. “We consider that each person on the team makes a valuable contribution to the end results on the racetrack or in the showring. But of course, it is the contribution of HH Sheikh Mohammed that is the most important. His vast experience and knowledge gained over decades of Arabian horse breeding has created a highly successful breeding, Arabian racing and showing program — perhaps unique in the world.” Among the trainers who will be presenting the Al Shahania horses in the Arabian showring in the U.S. and Europe in the coming year, is Michael Byatt of New Ulm, Texas. “Along with his appreciation for beauty, Sheikh Mohammed loves a structurally sound horse,” Michael says. “He understands functionality and values movement, carriage, and athleticism. He loves to look at horses … he stands at the rail in Scottsdale and watches not only the halter, but also an array of performance classes. He just loves horses.” Trainer Tom Oben of Belgium has a group of Al Shahania show horses bound for the European show circuit this year. Of Sheikh Mohammed, Tom says, “I am very impressed by his personality; he’s clever, and very down to earth, always realistic and optimistic, with a great eye for horses. He knows what he wants — what suits his vision. I have huge respect for him as a person, as a breeder, as a client. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to represent Al Shahania Stud in Europe.” And in California, trainer Greg Gallún is excited about Al Shahania’s 2014 foal crop. “In particular, there are three amazing yearlings that are currently in the show barn, two of whom will be at Scottsdale. We salute Sheikh Mohammed for his wise breeding choices — the production this year is stellar.”
On the following pages, we present a few of the Arabian show horses who will represent Al Shahania Stud in the coming year. 1 ▪ AL SHAHANIA ▪ WORLD
OM EL SANADEED (Om El Shahmaan x Om El Jinaah by Al Lahaab gasb), 2010 stallion.
Om El Sanadeed
2013 Arabian Breeders World Cup Supreme Gold Junior Champion Colt 2011 Scottsdale International Classic Junior Champion Colt 2011 Scottsdale Champion Scottsdale Signature Auction Colts ATH Om El Sanadeed’s pedigree suggests his future is secure as a breeding sire. His accomplishments in the showring brought him notice. Twice Scottsdale Champion and twice Las Vegas Champion make him one of the most decorated colts on the planet. He has lived up to expectations and more. Om El Sanadeed was bred for the exotic. And he is that. His heritage and history point toward the reality that his own show record, as stellar as it is, might one day be surpassed by his offspring. And isn’t that what all breeders hope for? Sanadeed is now in Europe at Obi Training Center, Belgium, with Tom Oben. He is standing at public stud.

BARZAN AL SHAHANIA (Stival x NW Siena Psyche by Padrons Psyche), 2010 stallion.

At Michael Byatt Arabians in New Ulm, Texas, Barzan has enjoyed a year off from the showring, being ridden around the farm and breeding a few of Al Shahania’s treasured broodmares, for instance, ZT Ludbectra (Ludjin El Jamaal x ZT Rubilectra). As Michael says, “We’re all excited about 2015 and Barzan’s return to the showring … and his 2015 foals coming.” Barzan Al Shahania is standing at Michael Byatt Arabians for public stud.

EKS MANSOUR (EKS Alihandro x EKS Phateena by WN Star Of Antigua), 2012 stallion.
EKS Mansour In 2013, it would have been hard to find a young colt with more star power than EKS Alihandro (Marwan Al Shaqab x OFW Psylhouette), sire of EKS Mansour. He capped off an undefeated year by being named 2013 World Junior Gold Champion Colt with the highest points of the show. Mansour is from Alihandro’s first foal crop and looks to have inherited his sire’s elegance along with the grey color of his dam and maternal grandparents. He is in training in Italy with Giacomo Capecci, who also showed EKS Alihandro. “Like many other great horses that came across my path, Mansour made an impression from an early stage,” says Giacomo. “The type, his long, arched neck, perfect proportions, and charisma — all make him a special creature. His pedigree is a blend of greatness — the Marwan on top with Monogramm on the dam’s side, and his beautiful grandam, a Marwan daughter bred at Michael Byatt’s tracing to Menes. I’m confident that he will be a great sire for Al Shahania. We are so proud that together with Al Shahania, we will show him to the world this year!” 4 ▪ AL SHAHANIA ▪ WORLD

A full brother to the U.S. National, Scottsdale, and Las Vegas World Cup Champion Filly Badiaa Al Shahania, Rehan is very much a Marwan son, taking after his sire in all ways, although Badiaa is more reminiscent of their dam, the beautiful Ali Jamaal daughter Majalis. “He’ll be equally as important a show horse as his sister, and we are excited to present him at Scottsdale this year,” says Michael Byatt.

Al Shahania Stud — France Al Shahania’s property in Normandy, France, Haras des Cruchettes, boasts an equine reproduction lab for A.I. and E.T., 128 stalls and 50 pastures spread out over 308 acres. The region, known for its green, well-watered farmland and an old-fashioned charm, is still full of small family-owned dairy farms and apple orchards. However, where horses are concerned Normandy has always been one of the most important horse breeding regions in France. Just down the road from Al Shahania, also in the Orne district, is Haras du Pin, known as the “Versailles” for horses, built for royalty and now state run, it was the site for much of the 2014 World Equestrian Games.
