This was one of my most challenging years to date, full of many transitions. In the end, the new farm, the wonderful clients and co-workers, and our spectacular Nationals made it one of the best!

It’s very satisfying to win, but for me, it is even more rewarding to watch your amateur riders bring home the roses; ultimately, we are here to help them reach their goals, so I feel very accomplished when it all comes together.

Totally Tops Disciplines– How we tallied the Tops for 2018 Things you should know about how we compiled the rankings:
One of the greatest moments for me in 2018 was winning the Arabian Horse World AWPA $100,000 Arabian Futurity at U.S. Nationals on WGA Rokhan! I just really love this horse ... he tries hard, and is so kind ... and his stand-up in that class was incredible!

I was excited to come in sixth place with STLA Johnny B Good in the new class at Nationals – the AHPA Half-Arabian Hunter Pleasure Futurity. And our second horse Mi Tosca PWA placing third. The class was tough with some very quality horses in it. I look forward to 2019.

First, I want to thank every one of you who contributed to Siemon Stables’ achievements in 2018. Any trainer’s success is a reflection of the team behind the scenes. I have been so blessed to be in a family business that is now in its 51st year. I have had the privilege of working with and learning from my dad, whom I consider to be one of the all-time great horsemen. Though he doesn’t train anymore he is still in the barn everyday giving my brother and me suggestions and encouragement. My parents based their business on a love for people, horses and a commitment to integrity in every area of life. My goal for my family, as well as my brother’s, is to follow those same principles as Siemon Stables continues into the future. “This past year my wife Sara has joined Luke and me in the training barn. Having my brother and my wife both training alongside me makes every day special. Sara loves the hunt division as well as giving lessons. Having her involved has been so much fun for me. Each of us who makes a living working with these incredible animals realizes that without the people at home supporting and working hard in difficult situations and often with little credit, we would have little success. It is humbling when I consider the many owners and amateurs who have entrusted their horses to our care over the years. Thank you! You are the best! “I was asked to tell what were the most thrilling or surprising times for me in 2018. First the birth of my fourth son, Matthew Jr. – this past year was the ultimate! But in the show ring there are way too many to mention, but two immediately come to mind. I had the privilege of showing the young Arabian stallion WP Corporate Image owned by the Bandy family of Wiloma Plantation. This beautiful chestnut stallion who is already siring National Champions was named Canadian National Champion English Pleasure. Next, there are no words to describe the thrill of being named National Champion Half-Arabian Park for the fourth consecutive year on Bill Castro’s great horse GSF Alejandro! Wow! What a thrill!

What an honor it is to be AHW Totally Tops! First, I'd like to thank my wife and clients; without them this definitely would not be possible. There were so many great moments this year but having the last two horses I bred, TOA Bazinga and TOA Khadence, both become SHN Champions, was very exciting. My biggest sense of accomplishment is the amateurs doing well. Congratulations to Susan Claycamp, MK Marshall, Heather Brannan, Hillary Boothe, and Kelli Bennett for a great 2018 show season!
