very day that I spend with an Arabian horse is a day to be treasured. I truly love what I do,” says Sandro Pinha. At the 2010 United States Nationals, while he was presenting *El Nabila for the coveted award of National Champion Stallion, one couldn’t help but reflect on this handler’s beginnings in a small agricultural town near São Paulo, Brazil, where he trained horses as a teenager. It is a moment that will forever be remembered as a highlight for Sandro. Arabians International, co-owned by Sandro and fellow horseman Gil Valdez, is a full-service training and marketing facility located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Gil and Sandro first met at Midwest Training Centre in the ’90s. In the years they spent showing horses to numerous national and international championships across North and South America, Europe, and Africa for Midwest, they developed a remarkable ability to work together

toward a common goal of presenting horses to the very best of each horse’s own ability. Beginning with the basics of feed and general health of the horse to the showring presentation itself, their ability to work together was directly reflected in their success through the years. “We have had the advantage of working with some of the greatest breeders, trainers, and horses in the world,” say Sandro and Gil. “We’ve been fortunate to have been in the presence of so many great horses. We love the energy that the horse transmits to you when you are in the arena. We never
stop learning from each other or from the horses. Every horse is different and requires thought and input as to the best way to train and show it.” Sandro’s quiet, consistent, and polished showring presence coupled with Gil’s attention to every detail of the care and conditioning of the horses has enabled them to succeed across the continents in the showring. Recognizing the importance of the international influence on the Arabian breed as a whole, Sandro and Gil are devoted to representing horses that reflect the needs of the international market. They understand that the highest quality horses with the most value are the horses that can compete and succeed globally. Knowing that great horses are only part of the strategy for a thriving business, they are devoted to providing a service for their clients that will produce the best results for them individually. “Our goal at Arabians International is to be a place where our customers experience no surprises.

“We currently have 3.5 acres at our facility and can accommodate approximately 55 horses,” says Gil. “For me, personally, the ‘magic’ number is 40-50 horses. It allows us to keep busy and devote the personal attention that each horse deserves.”
We strive to remain open and honest, recognizing that proper communication is the key to a successful business,” says Sandro. Pam Donnelly, office manager for Arabians International, says, “Gil and Sandro are two of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to work with. They both are incredibly hardworking and have their clients’ and horses’ best interest in mind every day. I couldn’t ask for a better job or group of people to spend my time with. It is truly a joy coming to work!” When asked about his ideal horse, Sandro reflects on the horses that have had the greatest impact on him.
“One of my favorite Arabian horses is BHF Dark Angel (RSD Dark Victory x Crown Narada), the first National winner for me in North America: 2000 Canadian National Champion Mare. She was a wonderful mare to work with. Of course having met Bey Shah was a highlight. He is a horse that will forever leave a mark on anyone who had the honor of witnessing his greatness.” For Gil, there are many horses that embody what he considers to be outstanding: RD Shahara Bey (Bey Shah x Gigi Jubask), S Justa Dream (Justafire DGL x Acquaintance), GA Honisuckl Rose (Khemosabi x NV Rose Ella), Legacy Of Gold (Alada Baskin x Khatar Firesember), Legacy Of Fame (Legacy Of Gold x

Arabians International has also developed a wonderful amateur program that strives to fulfill owners’ dreams of showing their horses to local and/or National wins. Sandro and Gil strive to match just the right horse with the right owner/handler and teach them how to work together with their horses. They support them each step of the way to ensure that they experience the true joy of presenting their own horses.
As to the future of Arabians International and the breed itself, Gil and Sandro are passionate about all that brings positive change to this life that they have devoted themselves to. They believe in a bright future for the breed and are witnessing a market that gets a little bit stronger every day as breeders strive to breed a better horse with each new season. It is their hope that their business thrives as their customers realize their full potential in the showring and breeding barns alike. “We are lucky to often enjoy our idea of the perfect day: great friends, great horses, and having the people we love around us.”
