candinavian Open S Blommeröd B-Show THE BLOMMERÖD INTERNATIONAL “B” SHOW was held on the weekend of July 4-5 in perfect summer weather on Saturday, and in torrential rain on Sunday afternoon! This show’s judging team has been very popular. The following week, the same team, with the exception of Anna Stojanowska, was center ring to judge the Wilhelmsborg “A” show in Denmark. Two weeks later, they turned up again at the Polish national show. Greater variation in judges would surely be appreciated by both spectators and participants. Perhaps ECAHO should partake to a greater extent in the choice of judges, as many seem to lack the ability to say “no” to an assignment. This year there was a change in the championship award system. Instead of the usual champion and reserve, there were three champions — gold, silver, and bronze. At a time when the number of show entries is decreasing, ECAHO creates more champions! But perhaps that is the idea, to attract more badly needed entries to the showring. The turnout at Blommeröd was very good, with 120 entries. Two geldings came forward to be judged on Saturday morning. The winner was almost a foregone conclusion, Piraten by Endel out of Poreka, a beautiful, typey horse who was gelded a couple of years ago because of infertility. A great pity, but a beautiful gelding, Piraten scored 87.33 points. He is owned by Lillemor Antonsson. The yearling colt class attracted 12 entries. The winner was Lance Lord OS from Germany by WH Justice out of the

Kubinec daughter Swana, bred and owned by Gestüt Osterhof. On Sunday, Lance Lord OS went on to be Gold Champion Colt and Malagant won the title Bronze Champion Colt. The Silver Champion Colt title was won by the second-place colt in the two-year-old class, Habibi, by WH Justice out of Feemi, bred and owned by Lönhult Arabians. Strangely enough the winner of the class, Walu, from Denmark, who scored 1 point more, 89.67, than Habibi, didn’t feature among the champions at all. Walu is by Wan-Kahli out of Jur Luhane BR, bred by the Husted family, and owned by Cautzar Arabians. The three-year-old colt class had only three entries and was won by Ungaro with 88.33 points. Bred by Liljebackens Araber and owned by Arctic Tern, Belgium, Ungaro is by El Amin out of AJA Bey Khateyna. The show continued in the afternoon with junior mares four to six years, with 10 entries. The winner, with a score of 91.33 points, which included 20, 20, and 19 for movement, was the chestnut mare Kashida, bred by Gestüt Osterhof by Psytadel out of the Kubinec daughter Petrushba, owned by El Jahara Arabians of Denmark. The judges were not at all in agreement regarding the scores for the second-place mare Janiiwa: Peter Upton gave the mare 94 points, Anna Stojanowska 86 points, and Marianne Tengstedt 84 points! Janiiwa is by Smasc out of Janeefa, bred and owned by Anna Björk. The winner of the intermediate mare class, the Egyptian mare Johara Al Naif, went on to be Gold Champion Mare, and the runner-up, Ansata Mouna, was Bronze Champion. She is by Ansata Shalim out of Al Johara QF, and Ansata Mouna is by Farres of the U.S. out of Talmona, of the U.S. Both mares are bred and owned by Al Naif Stud of Qatar. They scored 91

and 90 points respectively, which included 20, 19, 20 for type for Johara Al Naif. The winner of the senior mare class was also Silver Champion on Sunday. Nag Olla Bez scored 91.67 points, including 20, 20, 20 for type. She is by SW Bezatiw out of Sweet Saff, bred in Brazil by R. Guerra, and owned by W-Arabians in Sweden. At the end of the day after the mare classes, five charming foals at foot were presented. No points were awarded — the foals were ranked in order — first was Blommeröd’s filly foal Casyda by Blommeröd’s homebred stallion Ceper by Gazal Al Shaqab. Sunday started out well, but the weather got progressively worse, and by the afternoon it was blowing and raining. Fifteen yearling fillies came forward to be judged. The first three were all sired by the fashionable stallion of the moment, WH Justice. The winner was

a Polish entry, El Piatzolla, out of Enya, with a score of 90.33 points, bred and owned by ZPH Strusinianka from Poland. Two weeks later at the Polish National show, El Piatzolla placed third when she was judged by the same team as those at Blommeröd. The two-year-old filly class was won by a controversial horse, Niimah by Mambo from Belgium, out of Nilimaa from Sweden, bred by Wilza Arab Stud, and owned by Jannica Löfström. The controversy surrounding Niimah consists of the fact that the filly, at the deepest part of her extreme dish, has a hole going down into her skull that one could describe as a cleft lip in reverse and is the cause of much discussion. Niimah scored 91.33 points. In second place was Maharani CF by Psytadel of the U.S out of Mara III, bred and owned by Cafra Arabians of Germany, with a score of 90.67 points. Ten three-year-old fillies came forward for judging. The winner, GM Marwan Al Shakira, is by Marwan Al Shaqab out of Octavia Of Rohan, bred by Michael Wilson of the U.S., and owned by Naples Arabians. GM Marwan Al Shakira went on to be Gold Champion, the yearling El Piatzolla Silver Champion, and two-year-old Niimah Bronze Champion. A total of seventeen stallions came forward to be judged in two classes. The first class had 10 entries. Everyone was curious about TF Afrikhan Shah (US) by Botswana out of Rohara Shahblee. This stallion, stationed at the European Training Centre in Belgium, has been advertised with pictures of his extreme dished head, and consequently was used by several Swedish breeders this year. But it was not the Shah’s day, as he received 19s for type and head and neck but 17, 18 for body and 16s for movement, and finished in sixth place. The winner with 92.67 points, 20, 20, 19 for type, was El Sid by Al Lahab out of Swana by Kubinec, bred by Gestüt Osterhof, and leased by Husted Arabians of Denmark. Later in the day, El Sid was awarded the title Gold Champion Stallion.

In second place was a stallion who was a spectator favorite, despite his straight profile. He was loaded with charisma and movement, which gave him 20, 20, 20! The crowd clapped and cheered when he flew around the ring with his handler in tow. This horse was the bay Emberk by Gazal Al Shaqab and out of Emantka. Bred by Michalow and owned by Agnieszka Kozlowska from Poland, he scored 91.33 points and later was awarded the title Bronze Champion. In third place was UL Barolo by LM Polaris out of CA Kupona, bred by Ulrichsdal Arabians of Denmark, and owned in Denmark by Benjamin Bögh. The final class of the day and of the show was for stallions seven years old and older. The winner was Azraff El Karmdal by Wisdoms Promise out of Wannanah with a score of 90.67. He was bred and is owned by Karmdal Arabians of Denmark. The second-place stallion, Adawy, also scored 90.67 points, and was the horse that later was chosen by the judges to be Silver Champion. Adawy is by Borneo (ES) out of Ashiqa (GB), bred by Emma Maxwell in Great Britain and leased by Oppreva Arabians of Sweden. So another successful Blommeröd show came to an end. Always a weekend to look forward to — with high-class horses in the beautiful surroundings of Blommeröd Stud — it’s something very special, a highlight in the Arabian horse year.
