I decided that I wanted to breed that type of Arabian and contribute to the small percentage of Arabians that are straight Egyptian to help carry on their heritage. “There are two horses that come close to my ideal. One is Hadban al Shaqab, a perfect example of the classic desert Arabian and I am so blessed that he has come here to Aleah Arabians. Of the horses I have bred it would have to be Atum. A grandson of Al Adeed al Shaqab, Hadban’s maternal brother, Atum has substance, type, in your tent loving personality, has the elusive black coloring and is stunningly beautiful. And, his other grandsire is Thee Desperado. To me two of the all time greats of the breed!
“I consider one of my greatest acheivements to be getting others involved with the Arabian horse and seeing the pleasure they have in just owning and loving these magnificent creatures. Each one absolutely steals your heart away. “Where breeding is concerned I believe to introduce hybrid vigor, a breeder needs to incorporate outside bloodlines into their own band of mares. I am always on the lookout for that perfect next outcross. “One way to promote the Egyptian Arabian is to get together with other straight Egyptian breeders in your area and hold open houses and invite the public to come and participate. Also, I have always enjoyed showing at the open class A and Regional shows. Another is to support the clubs and shows that have straight Egyptian classes and donate breedings to your straight Egyptian stallions to the Futurity Auctions and get them out there for people to use. “My fondest wish is that every horse sold or placed from my farm have a loving home and be well cared for. I believe the straight Egyptian Arabian horse has a bright future as all top stud farms and breeders eventually go back to a straight Egyptian to add more type and stamina. They are the original Arab and will always be!”
EGYPTIAN DREAM ARABIANS Gerald Johnston “Imperial Imdal was the first Egyptian horse I ever saw,” says Gerald Johnston. “The horse that comes the closest to my ideal Egyptian Arabian is my own three-year-old colt, Adnan Aljassimya (Nisr Al Rayyan x Athena Al Zobair by *Al Adeed Al Shaqab). He has great bloodlines and is a future star. “My greatest achievement as a breeder of Egyptian Arabians is having shown two of them to straight Egyptian show championships. I would like to see more events for Egyptian Arabians at more shows.

“One of the first Egyptian Arabians that I saw was the beautiful Dorian Bint Kisra when I was 14 years old – I fell in love with her beauty and her charm,” says Josh Lavorgna. “She drew me to her in such an indescribable way. Although I was never able to own Dorian Bint Kisra, I was able to purchase a daughter of hers who has had a lasting effect on my program. I currently stand her great-grandson, a stallion that I bred, Kisra Djamel Sinan – a son of Ansata Sinan Pasha and the Imperial Mistaar daughter, Kisra Bint Dafina. Djamel’s dam is a granddaughter of Dorian Bint Kisra through her tail female line to *Omnia. “The list of horses that I have admired from afar over the years is long, but I will mention one mare that specifically stands out – Bint Deenaa. Her production record and the type that she seemed to possess that can be seen for generations was like no other. I was lucky enough to own her son Anaza El Kadeen (by Ruminaja Ali). The big, bulging, black eyes, the refinement in bone, and overall elegance are just a few of the characteristics I admire about this family. using some of the best bloodlines to produce some outstanding foals. With the birth of my first Djamel foals last year and this year, specifically out of mares that I bred, it was a euphoric feeling to stand in front of a filly that not only did I breed her sire and dam, but I bred both of her grandams. Moreover, and most importantly, the foal is more than I could have dreamed! “I believe Egyptian breeders in the U.S. and worldwide need to use all the bloodlines that we have available to us. We have some fantastic programs that have shied away from this blood or that blood. I have combined some of these different “groups,” and the results are magical! Djamel is a perfect example – he is the result of an intensely bred Ansata stallion to a mare who carries the blood of Imperial Baarez and Hadidi. “The Egyptian Event has been part of my life for more than 20 years. It is sad to think that the annual pilgrimage to Lexington, Kentucky, will be no more. However, as Egyptian breeders, I do believe we can use this as a chance to get our horses out and shown in regular shows, giving all Arabian breeders the opportunity to see our horses and what they can add to the overall Arabian gene pool. “The future of Egyptian Arabian horses lies in the hands of small breeders. These horses have to be used and loved. Many breeders began by having a desire for horses and riding. I believe we have to have our horses be seen as family animals who can be ridden, loved, and enjoyed.”

We have never looked back. “After breeding Patriot LSA we were looking for the perfect mare to add that final touch to our breeding program; Desha Bint Maysama was that mare. elegance, power, and kindness are the results of Lone Star’s breeding contributions to the Straight Egyptian breed. “Patriot LSA’s exciting win in 2017 as champion senior stallion at the Egyptian Event, combined with his son Jassur LSA winning unanimous champion senior stallion at Scottsdale in 2021 is Lone Star’s greatest achievement. Not only did this show us the high quality of Patriot LSA as a stallion we bred from Tammen bloodlines; it illustrated our consistency with great straight Egyptians. Sharing this with others through our family and clients has led to a wonderful feeling of achievement. “The best way to promote the straight Egyptian is by continuing to show them at major competitions. The Egyptian event has joined with the east coast championships in Virginia this year and Lone Star plans to compete our horses as well as our clients’ horses at the upcoming show. Another path Lone Star has taken is not only showing our straight Egyptians in Egyptian only classes but also in Arabian halter, western, and hunter. Lone Star is succeeding in proving the versatility of the Egyptian breed. “The future lies in our Egyptians’ progeny. This is why creating and preserving the straight Egyptian standard is paramount. Our wish is to see the straight Egyptian breed continue to grow and thrive not only in numbers but in the show ring in both halter and performance. Lone Star’s wish for all horses sold from our program is that they are able to enhance the straight Egyptian image and help catch the heart and soul of more individuals like us.
SONRISA FARMS Mary Ellen Chavez Las Lunas, New Mexico “The first straight Egyptian horse that caught my attention was in an ad in Arabian Horse World for Ansata Omar Halim,” says Mary Ellen Chavez. “I had never seen anything like him and I was completely taken! A beautiful snow white stallion in such a dynamic photo. I had to know more. “Mikeen El Masr is the closest I have ever seen to perfection in an Arabian horse. The first time I laid eyes on him in Wisconsin, when I visited Pat Platzek, I was awestruck. He is one of the most beautiful straight Egyptian stallions in the world. I wasn’t the only one who felt that way as he is now a Triple Gold Champion! “As a breeder, I have to say that my greatest achievement was when my homebred colt with two generations of my breeding went Junior Gold Champion Straight Egyptian Colt at the Scottsdale show. That was a moment I will never forget. Followed very closely by Mikeen El Masr winning Gold Champion Straight Egyptian Stallion at the Egyptian Event in Kentucky in 2018. “The best way to promote our horse in this day and age is both on social media platforms as well as on a local level. We need to bring those horse crazy kids to our farms to see and experience the magic of our straight Egyptian horses. Social media is our most powerful aid in promoting our horses. Showing people about the history, romance and beauty of these horses is our best promotion. “My fondest wish for a horse that leaves my farm is for the new owner to find a new and cherished partner in whatever endeavor they choose.”.
