SCOTTSDALE OFFERS PERFECT WEATHER Winter weather wasn’t getting any better in the east and couldn’t have been any more beautiful in the deserts of Arizona, so horsemen packed up and headed south where temperatures throughout the 11-day Scottsdale show hovered in the mid-80’s. In the sundrenched Wendell Arena on the show’s final day, judges named Rajj Z (Marajj) Junior Champion Colt with Sandro Pinha and charismatic Mystic Magnolia PF (Marwan Al Shaqab), Junior Champion Filly with Keith Krichke. The splendid 6-year-old black mare, RH Triana (ROL Intencyty), owned by Triana Holding LLC, was Champion Mare with David Boggs. RH Triana is a multi-U.S. National Champion Mare. David also presented the Scottsdale Champion Stallion, Kahil Al Shaqab, for the Al Shaqab Stud. Roses in the Open Western Championship went to Diesel Smoke CBA with Josh Quintas. Jody Strand won the Western Jr Horse on Vicario and Joe Reser rode Ima Rockin Pop Star to take the HA Western title. Cynthia Burkman won the Hunter Pleasure Championship on Ariya Encore and the Jr Horse on IIB Kiss Me Sanrosa, while Wendy Potts rode to roses again this year in the HA Hunter Pleasure on WD Noble Ladd+/. Joel Kiesner won the English Pleasure unanimously on Heirs Noble Love and the Jr Horse on Nobles Heir. Leah Beth Golladay teamed Noble Supreme CRF to the roses in the Country English.
Kahil Al Shaqab (Marwan Al Shaqab x OFW Mishaahl), 2011 Gold Medalist at the World Championships in Paris, is the 2016 Scottsdale Champion Halter Stallion. David Boggs led the 8-year-old bay to the coveted title for owner and breeder The Al Shaqab Stud, Member of the Qatar Foundation.
Jay Krusenstjerna and Delacroixx (RD Dynamo) won almost $41,000 in the SSS Auction Colt Championship. Femme Fatale WA (Couturier) and Ed Friesen took roses in the filly division. The Reining Futurity Classic went to Crystal McNutt and Zee Gun Slinger in the Purebred and TS Mae Gossip and Andrea Fappani in the HalfArab. Sunny skies and 2000 beautiful Arabians once again made Scottsdale the perfect winter break for horsemen and horse lovers.
