CANADIAN NATIONAL SHOW CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY The Canadian Arabian National Championships celebrated its 60th Anniversary at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Manitoba this year. The show, which began in 1958, had its seventh year at this Canadian facility. There was genuine enthusiasm among the exhibitors of Arabian and Half-Arabian horses here. Locally, visitors received a warm, Brandon welcome. Sessions from August 13th through the 19th were enjoyed by American and Canadian horsemen and spectators. Michael Byatt showed the tall, grey stallion, Kamil Al Cape to roses in Canadian National Champion Halter Stallions. He also took winning turns in the Futurity Fillies with Unforgettable J and in the 2-YearOld Filly Jackpot with Um Graiba Al Shaqab. Grant Krohn led the Canadian National Champion Mare, Edens Fantasy, while Jeff Schall handled the Champion Yearling Filly, Vannah MA and the winning Futurity Colt, Big Ambition TRJ. Top honors in the Yearling Colt Championship went to Fyre Me Up with Austin Colangelo at the lead. Two-Year-Old Jackpot Colt roses went to RD Stivalation and Bruno Guiraldelli. Josh Quintas rode Diesel Smoke CBA, the 2016 U.S. National Western Champion, to roses in the Canadian National Western Pleasure as well. Josh also took top honors with Onnesty in the Western Jr Horse. Michele Reser showed Ima Rockin Pop Star to win the HA Western open. In the Hunter Pleasure it was a photo op for Paparazzi PGN and owner/rider Jill Andrews, while Ashley Toye followed her to win with RK Alvarro+/ in Hunter Pleasure Jr Horse. Tom Theisen won the HA English Open with Shes So Bad and the Country Jr Horse on Noble Rendevous. Jonathan Ramsay took the Country English on Diva

Kamil Al Cape (Shanghai EA x Tressor of Marwan EA by Marwan Al Shaqab) is the 2017 Canadian National Champion Halter Stallion. Pictured with his handler, Michael Byatt, the four-year-old stallion is owned by Ana Carolina Damiao Tinoco of Spanish Fork, Utah. Kamil Al Cape was the Region 9 Champion Stallion last June. Bred in Spain by Ganaderia Al Cape Arabians and shown in Europe.

Afire, while Jason Krohn won the English Pleasure roses on SD Graceland, Rob Bick won the English Jr Horse unanimously (again) with RC Iron Man. Larry Hoffman won Show Hack roses with A Revelation BHA+//. Enthusiasm and competition made the 2017 Canadian National Championships great fun. The Royal Red always ranks among the world’s very best Arabian horse shows annually.
