ASTRO T O U R I S M This thesis is an attempt to incorporate astronomy and architecture for the development of underprivileged communities in rural India along with seeding curiosity and rational thinking. This project aims to create a center for tourists to stargaze and observe the night sky of the rural Ladakh as wells for the local people as a livelihood opportunity and to gain expertise in the field of astronomy to be an integral part of the tourism value chain in the future,
Nomadic People of three villages Phobrang, Lukung, and Urung situated near the world-famous Pagong lake in Ladakh felt sorry for their limited resources, deploring that they have nothing than mighty desert mountains which would serve no purpose and some livestock to earn their livelihood( times of India ) From the background study of tourism in Ladakh, it is understood that a niche or specified tourism strategy is preferred for the sustainable existence of the environment and tourism. So nature-based tourism like terrestrial Astro-tourism becomes significantly considerable with the availability of perfect night sky in Ladakh where it attracts many quality tourists to the remote regions. With sustainable value-added business models, it can be used for the benefit of the local community without hurting the ecosystem
