URBAN GROWING UrBin Grower™ Elite This All-in-One, Innovative System Allows You to Effectively Grow Your Own Organic Vegetables in Small Spaces! Target: Smaller backyard spaces and indoor/outdoor container gardens.

Wicky Grower™ A Small Backyard & Container Gardener’s Answer to Limited Space & Time! Target: Gardeners and urban growers with limited space and limited time, container plants with circling root and drainage problems. Description: Not only does this unique planter take the guess work out of watering, but it allows for plants to be water as nature intended, from the bottom up. Plant roots are then able to obtain the perfect amount of water, soil nutrients and are “air” pruned therefore avoiding root rot, overwatering issues, or nutrient deficiencies caused from above soil watering and container growing. Made in the U.S.A from UV protected food-grade plastic. Suggested Use: The Wicky Grower™ can be used to grow a variety of plants including apple trees, cherry trees, blueberries, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, beans, corn, lettuce, squash, cabbage, onions, strawberries, ornamental plants and much more. 1308025 Culti Cave (10 lbs.)

Description: With traditional container gardening, it may be hard to gauge the amount of water your plants need and watering from above the soil can wash away valuable nutrients. UrBin Grower™ has three parts: the self-watering reservoir, the soil separator and the growing container.

Description: pH is a measurement of the hydrogen ion concentration of a solution. Alkalinity is related to pH because alkalinity establishes the buffering capacity of water. Alkalinity is a measure of a particular water’s capacity to neutralize acids and affects how much acid is required to change pH. Both alkalinity and pH must be considered when adjusting the pH of water. The term “alkalinity” should not be confused with the term “alkaline,” which describes situations where pH levels exceed 7.0. Use alkalinity and pH kits to determine alkalinity and pH of your water. (2-Hydroxy-1,2,3-propanetricarboxylic acid) –H3C6H5O7

Descripton: Turn your scraps into an excellent organic fertilizer! This innovative stacking design harnesses the ability of composting worms to quickly and efficiently turn kitchen scraps, shredded mail, papers, coffee grounds, newspaper and cardboard into nutrientpacked earthworm castings. Description: This predatory mite effectively suppresses cyclamen mite in strawberry fields, broad mite in greenhouse crops, European red mite and two-spotted spider mite in orchards, spider mite on roses and vegetable crops in greenhouses and general mite problems on mint and hops in northern climates. Eggs and nymphs are difficult to see as they are small and almost transparent. Adults are pear-shaped and ivory until feeding, when they take on the red or brown coloration of their prey. Adult females consume around 2-16 pest mites per day and lay ≈20-60 eggs during a 14-60 day lifecycle. The transition from egg to adult stage takes about 7-9 days.

Suggested Use: (Depending upon level of infestation) Good for cold climates! Use preventatively; over-winters and sustains on pollen. Release at the start and end of the season. Use ≈1,000 per 4,500 sq.ft or 10,000 per Acre.

Description: This tiny, ivory, pear-shaped predatory mite feeds on a variety of pests on crops including: cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries, tropical foliage plants, and greenhouse roses. Although adults consume prey at a relatively slow rate of about one egg per day, they can survive longer under starvation conditions. During their lifetime of about 20 days, females will lay approx. 1-3 eggs per day. Eggs hatch within a few days and adulthood is reached in about 4-12 days.

PEST CONTROL - BENEFICIAL NEMATODES WHAT ARE BENEFICIAL NEMATODES? Beneficial Nematodes are live, microscopic organisms (non-segmented roundworms) that occur naturally in soil throughout the world. They are parasitic to insect pests that typically have a developing (larval or pupal) stage of life in the soil; however, they have been known to also parasitize above ground stages of adults, nymphs and larvae.

HOW DO BENEFICIAL NEMATODES WORK?

HOW DO I APPLY NEMATODES? 1. Mix Ready-To-Use Beneficial Nematodes with water. 2. Apply pre-dawn or at dusk with hose-end sprayer, backpack sprayer, pump sprayer or watering can. 3. Keep area moist at least 2 weeks.

For Treatment:

1.

2.

3. Antoinette Malan @ Stellenbosch University, South Africa.

1. Beneficial Nematodes are applied to soil to locate pests, enter through orifices or body walls, and infect pests with toxic bacteria. 2. Bacteria kills pests within 24 to 48 hours. Beneficial Nematodes feed on bacteria and host insect tissue. Adult stages of Beneficial Nematodes produce hundreds of thousands of new juveniles.

Apply every 2 weeks until pest infestation subsides.

For Prevention: Apply in the Spring, Summer and Fall (2-3 times per year).

Applying Beneficial Nematodes with a hose-end sprayer.

PEST CONTROL - BENEFICIAL ORGANISMS JAPANESE BEETLE CONTROL WHERE ARE JAPANESE BEETLES FOUND? Japanese Beetles are native to Japan. They were first found in the United States in 1916 in New Jersey and it is believed they arrived before inspections of commodities entering the country were required. Since then, they have spread to many states in the United States including: AK, AL, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, KY, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV. If you are unsure if Japanese Beetles have invaded your county, please contact your County Extension Agent to find out.

Milky Spore Powder Specific, Long Lasting Larval Control. Target: Japanese Beetle Grubs. Description: Contains Bacillus popillae bacterium, lethal to soil-borne grub stages of Japanese beetles. Grubs that normally feed on roots of grass and vegetables will ingest the bacterium which will cause death in about 1-3 weeks. Grubs decompose, and re-release bacteria spores. The spores can remain in the soil for about ten years, and in some cases up to 20 years. In warmer climates, control can occur in 1-3 years and in cooler climates 3-5 years after one application. Can apply with other fertilizers, will not harm animals and can be applied to food crops. For best results, apply with NemaSeek, which will aid in spreading the bacterium to grubs. Store in a cool dry place to maintain shelf life.

Protect Your New Growth Now!

M

any gardeners and homeowners consider the Japanese Beetle to be one of the most serious pests they face. These pests cause devastating root damage (particularly to lawns) in their grub phase, but also attract various critters that will dig up your lawn searching for the grubs to eat. The adult beetles can defoliate plants faster than you can say Popillia japonica.

Suggested Use: Use All-Purpose Dispenser Tube for easy application. White chalk carries the bacterium, and the resultant treated area should resemble a checkerboard. Water within about 48 hours for about 15-20 minutes to permeate into soil and do not mow or rake until thoroughly soaked. Apply about 1 tsp., every 4 ft., in rows 4 ft. apart. 10 oz. covers ≈ 2,500 ft², 40 oz. covers ≈ ¼ acre, 50 lbs. covers ≈ 4.5 acres. TIMING BENEFICIAL NEMATODE & MILKY SPORE APPLICATIONS Application of beneficial nematodes and Milky Spore in spring and then again in late summer/early autumn can help us contain Japanese beetle infestations. How does this work? Japanese Beetles spend most of the year living in the soil as larvae – what we commonly call grubs. It’s important to time applications of beneficial nematodes and Milky Spore with their spring and autumn journey through the top layers of soil. After a long winter underground, the grubs will begin to move to the top layers of soil in preparation to their emergence as adult beetles. Before they pupate into adult beetles is an excellent time to make the first beneficial nematode application of the year. It is safe to apply beneficial nematodes once the soil has reached consistent temperatures of 42°F.

34

Immediately upon emergence in the spring or early summer, adult beetles will begin to lay eggs. They are highly mobile and don’t discriminate where they lay eggs – soil is soil. By August and through September the eggs will have hatched and are in their early larvae – or grub - stage. They will begin eating the roots of your plants. This underground stage as grubs makes August and September an excellent time to apply nematodes and Milky Spore. Remember to use the Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (Hb) beneficial nematode for attacking the Japanese beetle! Apply the Milky Spore first and use the application of the nematodes to help spread the Milky Spore more efficiently.

GRASSHOPPER CONTROL Semaspore & Nolo Baits - Grasshopper Control Stop Grasshopper & Crickets From Ruining Your Garden & Crops! Target: Grasshoppers, Mole Crickets, Mormon and Black Field Crickets. Description: Semaspore and Nolo Bait contain Nosema locustae, a naturally occurring single celled protozoan that infects all stages of developing grasshoppers, mole crickets, Mormon and black field crickets. The Nosema locustae is coated on wheat bran, which is used to attract the pests. When ingested it creates a disease that is specific to these pests, they become sick, eat less, and begin to die. The disease is spread to other grasshoppers via cannibalism. Expect that within 2 to 4 weeks, 50% of the population will be dead and most survivors will be infected. Infected pests will consume less and lay fewer eggs. This product works best when the pests are ½” to 3/4” in length. Shelf Life: Check label and refrigerate to extend shelf life.

Target: Control of caterpillars. Description: Use Thuricide to control caterpillars that are causing excessive damage. This easy to mix and easy to use liquid can be sprayed on any plant that you would like to protect. Can be used on fruits, vegetables, and ornamentals and can be used up to the day of harvest. Use weekly until the infestation is under control. Suggested Use: Easy to use for all spray applications, just mix 1-4 tsp. per gallon of water and apply to plants. It is important to target the underside and top of leaves to ensure good coverage. The mix rate you use is dependent on the level of infestation - there is no harm to the plant if you use a stronger mix rate. 8 oz. Concentrate 16 oz. Concentrate

Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) Target: Larval Stages of Mosquitoes & Black Flies. Description: "Bti", Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, are bacteria which infect and kill mosquito larvae. These bacteria kill only the larvae of mosquitoes and their close relatives like gnats and black flies. Bti does not harm other kinds of larvae, insects, fish, birds, worms or any mammals. When Bti are eaten by the mosquito larvae, they damage the gut cells and quickly paralyze them, leaving them unable to ingest fluids or food. Suggested Use for Dunks: Dunks kill mosquitoes for up to 30 days when placed in standing water outdoors. Dunks will float in water and can be anchored with string to prevent them from being washed away. Alternate drying and wetting does not reduce their effectiveness. Use 1 dunk/100 sq. ft. of infested water. Dunks can also be placed in low lying areas in advance of expected flooding. Suggested Use for Bits/Granular: Broadcast into compost piles, water gardens, flower pots, rain barrels, bird baths, tree holes, swamp coolers, unused swimming pools, old automobile tires and other places that have the potential for mosquito breeding. 1 tsp. per 25 sq. ft. or 1 Tbsp. per 75 sq. ft., 2.5-10 lbs/acre depending upon organic properties of water: black, murky water needs more than clear water. WEED CONTROL Pre-Emergent vs. Post-Emergent Weed Control When to Use A Post-Emergent?

True Leaves

Use post-emergent weed control once true leaves are visible. Make sure that you protect any plants that you want to keep as natural and organic weed killers are not selective.

Cotyledon

When to Use A Pre-Emergent? Use pre-emergent weed control before the first true leaves grow on the plant when only the cotyledons have developed and are visible. This is the time before roots begin to develop and the pre-emergent is most effective. Do not use a pre-emergent on plants that you want to keep before they are rooted. Do not use on newly sodded lawns, newly seeded planting areas, recent transplants.

PRE-EMERGENT WEED CONTROL Orland’s Safe-T-Weed® Corn Gluten Pre-Emergent Herbicide That’s Great for Lawns & Gardens. Target: Use in your lawn, garden, or fields before weeds sprout. Description: Orland’s Safe-T-Weed is a pre-emergent natural corn gluten herbicide that kills the tiny feeder roots of sprouting seeds. It does not harm established plants or vegetable and flower sprouts that have true leaves. While it controls sprouting weed seeds, it does NOT control established perennial weeds such as dandelions. The EPA found Orland’s Safe-T-Weed so friendly to the environment that it is exempted from EPA herbicide regulations. Used as directed, children or pets can play on treated areas immediately after application and it will not harm beneficial insects, soil organisms or pond or stream life! It is effective against most common lawn and garden weeds. In addition, its high nitrogen content (9-0-0) works to green up your lawn. Suggested Use: Safe-T-Weed is easy to spread using a can or cup for small areas. Use a spreader for lawns. One pound treats 50 square feet of flowerbed, garden or lawn. 1226803 25 lb. Suggested Use: Use for a minimum of 60 days. Add at 2% of the dry weight of the grain ration. If livestock or horses still test positive, increase the dosage. More will not hurt; too little will not help. See feed charts on our website for specific animal dosages.

MAGGOT CONTROL Beneficial Nematodes A Smart Choice to Stop Swarming Flies! "Beneficial nematodes will burrow into the soil and parasitize maggots by entering the maggot and releasing a toxin that will ultimately eliminate it! Effective control of larval stages of flies to minimize pesky adults. For details see pages 32-33.”

Target: Adult flies. Description: This built-to-last, rust-free, heavy duty trap goes anywhere to reduce existing fly populations, fly blooms and migrant flies. Used by gardeners, pet owners, kennels, horse owners, breeding and training facilities, dairies, poultry and swine facilities, feedlots and other places where flies are a problem. Dimensions: 12” dia. x 10.5” tall. Suggested Use: The yeast bait is mixed with water and poured into the container at the bottom of the trap. Within seconds flies are lured into the trap. They enter into the confinement chamber and dehydrate from exposure to the sun. When it begins to fill up with flies, just empty, hose out and reset with new bait. Comes with one packet of bait, which is enough for approx. 5 weeks. Use 1 trap for 5-10 horses. 1256001 1256002

Adult female flies lay their eggs in decaying organic matter, especially manure. Only a few hours later, these eggs develop into microscopic larvae (maggot stage) and burrow down into the manure. The maggots grow until they form a cocoon (pupal stage).

ARBICO's Recommended Fly Eliminator™ Program

Then, the female Fly Eliminators™ seek out the fly pupae and begin to deposit their eggs inside. The eggs grow into larvae that feed on the developing fly, stopping the adult pest fly from hatching.

Fly Eliminators™ reproduce in about 21 days, constantly strengthening the Fly Eliminator™ population. Pest flies reproduce at a faster rate than our Fly Eliminators, so they must be replenished on a regular basis, approx. 2 – 4 weeks.

“We started using Fly

Eliminators back in 1983. We are still using them today. It’s a wonderful product and a successful program that everyone should use! All the big corporations are going green and we were one of the first to go green by using Fly Eliminators. Of all the programs we have had in place and through management changes over the years, this is the one program you don’t want to mess with. Trust me!” Butch Lehr, Track Manager of Churchill Downs
