Johore is the southernmost state of peninsular Malaysia. Sandwich between the historic city of Malacca and the modern powerhouse country of Singapore. It is the 5th largest state in Malaysia, 2nd in population with 3 milion proud Johorian. Johore name originated from the Arab word of ‘Jauhar’ meaning Gem/Jewel. Founded in the 16th Century by Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II, the son of Sultan Mahmud Shah of Malacca, after the state was invaded by the Portuguese.


Iskandar Malaysia, established in 2006 aims at changing Johore presence in the region, by challenging the Klang Valley and Singapore to become one of the biggest economic powerhouse in the region. Iskandar Puteri, known previously as Nusajaya, will be the new state capital with Kota Iskandar housing the state administrative centre. The newly built Bangungan Dato’ Mahmud Salleh Perang, one of the few buildings in Iskandar Puteri which houses the office of State Department.

EDUCITY Sport Complex, Iskandar Puteri Most part of Iskandar Puteri is still under construction. Small commercial area such as these caters to the growing number of people living in the area.

Hutan Bandar Recreational Park Located just off the city centre, the park is famous for its delicious food court near the entrance. Behind it sits a park that locals often come for recreation. Go deeper and you will find abandon structures hiding in the wilderness, its architecture is a reminiscence of Jurassic Park.

Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque Built at the end of 18th century, the mosque takes influence from British Victorian architecture with some moorish and malay elements. Renovation work was being done inside the mosque hence access was denied. The area around the mosque however was still open to public.
