Aaron Westerberg “Afterthought”
Exhibition Dates: June 13 - 30, 2024
Arcadia Contemporary is proud to present “Afterthought,” the debut, solo exhibition of original oil paintings by California artist Aaron Westerberg. The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, June 13th, from 6-8 PM, showcasing a collection of 23 new oil paintings with the artist in attendance.
Westerberg’s signature, painterly style utilizes a moody, subdued palette that evokes bygone days of life along the Atlantic seaboard, a stark contrast to the vibrant colors typically associated with his native California. His technique transcends mere depiction, aiming instead to engage viewers in an emotional dialogue that is only enhanced by his choice of intimate scenarios.
For this exhibition, Westerberg has turned inward, embracing a narrative that is both deeply personal and cinematic. He says, “These are pieces of my life and my painted experiences.” Although the works are rendered in a style reminiscent of 19th-century tonalism, akin to the works of Thomas Wilmer Dewing, they also draw inspiration from modern cinematography and literature, including the visual styles of Christopher Doyle and the poetic expressions of Mary Oliver.
Westerberg’s debut exhibition “Afterthought” with Arcadia Contemporary, will be on view from June 13-30, 2024. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 13th, 2024, from 6-8 PM, and is open to the public.
Aaron Westerberg, born in 1974, has largely shaped his artistic education through self-directed study and mentor ship since 1994, diverging from traditional educational routes to forge his own path. He has studied under prominent artists including Jeffrey Watts and Daniel Pinkman. From his Los Angeles studio, Westerberg continues this tradition of mentorship, teaching students in a personal and direct manner. Westerberg has also held teaching positions at the California Art Institute in Thousand Oaks from 2005 to 2010 and at The Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Arts (LAAFA) from 2010 to 2015.
Arcadia Contemporary is proud to represent Aaron Westerberg.
