Kesja Tabaczuk “Fields of Morning”

Arcadia Contemporary is pleased to present “Fields of Morning,” the debut, U.S. solo exhibition from Polish artist Kesja Tabaczuk. The exhibition, featuring 19 new oil paintings, will be on view from July 11th - 24th, 2024, with an opening reception on Thursday, July 11th from 6-8 PM with the artist in attendance.
“Fields of Morning” explores themes of childhood nostalgia and the beauty of everyday moments. Tabaczuk draws influence from the emotive, candid style of Diane Arbus, juxtaposed with her own idyllic countryside childhood in Eastern Europe. Her creative process begins with extensive photo sessions to find the perfect moment, often taking up to a thousand photos. Starting with the eyes to ensure the portraits remain her focal point, Tabaczuk then turns her attention to the backgrounds and additional elements, which are added to complement, but not overshadow the main subject. This thoughtful approach allows her to convey subtle emotions and expressions, making each painting a unique narrative.
Born in 1986 in Opole, Poland, and now based in Oslo, Norway, Tabaczuk has swiftly ascended, transitioning from painting as a personal pursuit to achieving professional acclaim in Europe and now in the United States. Growing up with a natural attraction to the arts, Tabaczuk’s journey included brief formal training before she found her stride through self-education and inspiration from contemporary realist painters.
