Section III^ Academic Year 2007-2008
PURPOSE: - Describe the effects of floods on buildings; - Identify some of tricks that can be taken to limit damages; - Has developed the technology for the construction of buildings and amphibious floats; - Analysis of case studies. LIMITS: - Research does not affect the house-boat (houseboats); - The discussion is limited to analyze individual buildings without investigating their impact on an urban scale. OBJECTIVES: - Overview of the most common flotation systems; - Analysis of the technical elements of the building and construction of an abacus of the solutions adopted to address these needs; - Detailed technical description of a type of building, comparing two types of buildings made by competitors who use similar flotation systems .
ANPHIBIOUS LIFE
-The phenomenon of "house-boat" Why study buildings and amphibious floats: - Climate change - The needs of peolpe are changing
EFFECTS OF FLOODING: - Tangible damages - Intangible damages REQUIREMENTS FLOATING BUILDINGS: - Foundations - Envelope closure - Network plant
TECNOLOGIE FLOODPROOFING (tecnologie per la prevenzione dagli allagamenti):
1
1 Barriere esterne
2
2 Edifici impermeabili 3 Edifici in grado di far penetrare ed uscire facilmente l’acqua 4 Edifici con ingresso elevato rispetto al livello dell’acqua 5 Edifici galleggianti o anfibi

FLOATITION TECHNOLOGIES - Prefabricated modular foundations - Foundations assembled on the water - Prefabricated concrete foundations
CASE STUDY 1: ANPHIBIOUS BUILDING
Project Name: De Gouden Kust Maasbommel Site: Maasbommel, Netherlands Manufacturer: Dura Vermeer Group Company Location: Hoofddorp (Netherlands) Customer: Gouden Kust BV, Beuningen (Netherlands) Design team: Factor Architecten, Arnhem (Netherlands) Consultants: Boiten Raadgevende Ingenieurs (Netherlands) Year of completion: 2004
CASE STUDY 1: ANPHIBIOUS BUILDING Anchor: posts that let me scroll vertically and prevent horizontal movements
Effect of change in water level:
Normal level
Flood level
CASE STUDY 2: FLOATING BUILDING BUILT IN PLANT Place of production: ABC Arkenbouw establishment based in Urk (Netherlands) Type of foundation used: concrete Structure elevation: modular wooden looms
CONCLUSIONS 1.MODULAR BUILDING 2.TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE FUTURE
CONCLUSIONS
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Description of floodings effects on buildings; - Creation of an abacus to address the requirements of floating buildings; - Improving technology floodproofing; - Development of systems for flotation reviewed more common; - Detailed technical description of a type of building; - Drawings about floating and amphibious buildings
