Steps to create the mold

Phase 1:

Create the base half spehere

Phase 2:

Add the layer of buble wrap for texture

Phase 1:

Phase 2:

Cutting the Circles to create half Positioning the spheres according spheres that will act as a mould. to the desired shape/movement of the plaster

Phase 3:

Adding plaster to the final mold

Phase 3:

Adding layer of bubble wrap to add texture and depth to form.

Phase 2:

Arranging the semi spheres at different heights to create a fluid shape

Phase 4:

Adding the right ratio of plaster to water to make sure the paste is heavy enough so that the foam doesnt float

Phase 3:

Adding Saran wrap to pour the plaster over.

ARCH 473/3522 - Fall 2021

Phase 4:

Pouring a ratio of 2:1 Water to gypsum over the saran wrap Variable Definition Independent Variable: ratio of water to gypsum Dependent variable: Form generated as a result of runniness of the mixture

variable alteration

- Rough like texture - perfect hlaf sphere - static form

The form looks static with no fluidity or movement. The plaster came out easily and the mold was succesful

- Cracks - More edgy then expected - Bubble wrap created an interesting rough texture

Gravity was a significant factor by pushing down the plaster thus flattening the bubble wrap to the bottom of the mold cfreating flat surfaces instead of the desired smooth curves

Some variables I could change in order to improve the form could be smaller half sphere (diameter of sphere) to avid cracks and create a more dynamic form. Adding tension to the bubble wrap so that the plaster doesn’t push straight to the bottom. This would result in smoother transitions between the half spheres.

Gravity was a significant factor by pushing down the plaster thus flattening the bubble wrap to the bottom of the mold cfreating flat surfaces instead of the desired smooth curves

- The curves had a smoother transition than the previous trials - The form creases due to the stress created by gravity - Smaller diameter spheres created a more rigid form - Adding tension to the bubble wrap resulted in a smoother transition between half spheres.

Phallus Indusiatus

Maiden Veil Fungus Commonly called the bamboo mushroom. The fruit body of the fungus is characterised by a conical to bell-shaped cap on a stalk and a delicate lacy “skirt”, or indusium, that hangs from beneath the cap and reaches nearly to the ground

Anatomy of the Mushroom The life cycle of most fungi starts with the production of spores that germinate to form hyphal threads. Growth of the hyphae ultimately results in the formation and growth of the mycelia (mycelial network).

1

A mycelium is a network of fungal threads or hyphae. Mycelia often grow underground but can also thrive in other places such as rotting tree trunks.

Taken together, myecelium composes what’s called a “mycorrhizal network,” which connects individual plants together to transfer water, nitrogen, carbon and other minerals.

Blom Bank Facade Facelift Due to Blom Bank’s oriented curtain wall, the building is exposed to a significant amount of radiation and glar from direct sunlight. In this project, I’ll introduce a double skin facade design to accomodate for Blom Bank’s South and East elevation
