Introduction Local community center is a center and social home that provide full care for elderly people physically and mentally, giving them the best choices and lifestyle with wide range of activities. Elderly houses can be one of the hardest building structures since it includes many technologies like sensors, electronic wheelchairs, telephones connected with the nurse’s phones and many more. When it comes to mental health, interaction and communication is the best solution for it, and that’s the main reason why this center is concerned about interaction with nature and peoples as well the most.
This site is located in Nahyan the 1st Street, Shaab Al Ashkar, north west of HCT-Alain men’s college and Al-Ain zoo, and falls the residential buildings on other, it is really interesting site specially for an elderly house to be built it since it’s in the middle of many colorful places and between many houses and shops which will make the elderly feel like there are living in their own houses, the topography of this ground is flat which makes it easily to build on. .in fact, the circulation of this site makes it easy for the elderly to find transportation if welling to go out.
The reason that made me choose this topic is that almost every elderly center follows the old culture centers and has no developments which make it hated by most of the elderly people. so I decided to make some changes and develop it in many ways as much as possible and some of them are: studying rooms and libraries, gym and yoga rooms, shallow swimming pools, massage rooms, etc.
10
It outlines the difficulties involved in measuring both environment and quality of resident’s life, it also emphasizes the importance of not only studying the design of the buildings, but the way they used in practice. By the help of books, trusted websites, newsletters and pupils’ feedback I was able to collect enough information about the elderly houses, how everything must be specifically built and how to develop it.
This report will present the precedent studies in detail along with analysis for each one of them, the project site analysis, data collection and analysis, user feedback, estimated budget, detailed programming description, and finally it will present the preliminary concept descriptions and sketches

2.1 85 SHELRERED HOUSING UNITS FOR SENIOR AND PUBLIC FACILITIES
General info
The mixed program of housing and facilities was determined by high economic restrictions that obliged us to maximize the best part of the site: the spectacular views of Barcelona and the ocean beyond. Orientation and topography defined the initial design. Facilities resolve the topographic jump and become a platform from which the south-facing housing units rise in an L-shape.
14
Reason of Selection: • •
•
Large windows for more sunlight entrance. The location of the building which is in the middle of the city so the elderly can connect with other. In each room there are a balcony for them to have their own views.

Concept (85 Sheltered Housing Units for Senior and Public Facilities)
Taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate, each unit is provided with a large terrace that organizes the program of the space. This terrace is understood as an empty space, an excavation of the white mass of the building volume. Its size exceeds the scale of the apartment inside and establishes direct dialogue with the rest of the building as well as the city. The unit’s alternate floor to floor, thus forming across the façade a staggered chessboard pattern of white and black that cloaks the building in a distinctive texture.
These terraces condense the life inhabiting them. They expose the domestic activities of the users to the city beyond, like the central courtyard of the houses of the Algerian Kashba translated onto the vertical plane. Each user makes the space their own. The collection of actions and activities of the inhabitants remains integrated in the volume of the building through the interior position of the terrace. The architecture is saturated with daily life, and shows itself to the city as such. White covers everything, from the individual curtains to the façade as a whole, unifying the building like the snow on the distant horizon.
Layout
16
Program, Spaces and functions The project has to solve a program of 6500m2 of social housing with 85 dwellings for elderly people, 4 special dwellings for handicap people (with independent access), and parking space for 28 cars. There are also 2000m2 of public facilities with a civically center.
There are many strategies implemented into the project to improve inhabitant’s sociability, which is really important when you are working on senior social housing. There is a communal area placed close to the entrance where all users can meet and where those who are responsible of the management of the building plan different activities. The proposal goes a step further and understands that terraces are social condenser machines, where all domestic and social activities are done and shown to the city.
17
The public facility building placed at the ground floor. It operates in a bigger scale, affecting all the neighborhood, bringing life and activity to the building, and mixing itself with senior inhabitants. It’s a big social center where different activities are being held such as: kinder garden, kitchen workshops, internet, dancing classes, gymnastics…etc.

The windows of the building is large which it make the interior connected with the sunlight.

2.2 CARE AND RETIREMENT HOME
General info Designed large healthcare facility for dependent elderly people in the heart of the Normandy bocage near the village of Orbec. The building follows the sloping curve of the hillside and is visible from the valley. To reduce the visual impact of this imposing building, Dominique Coulon felt it preferable to divide it up.
20
Reason of Selection: •
• •
The design of the building and the color used makes the elderly people feel that their living in their own homes not hospitals. The interior color which is red and white which changes from there psychology The building shapes is connected with nature

Concept (Care and Retirement Home)
Following the sloping curve of the hillside, the 115-bed care and retirement home follows the topography of the hillside and has been designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. The design team divided it into smaller volumes that fan out across the landscape. To reduce the visual impact of the imposing building. By using green, the building both blends into the larger landscape and reflects the rural nature of the region. The building has been designed to enhance the living and walking areas. Its strength lies in its relationship with the landscape.
22
Program, Spaces and functions Each living unit fits into one section of the building, and all remain connected to a south-facing street, backed by the hill. this layout offers views through the structure from one side to the other, with light punctuating primary circulation routes. The interlocking building form provides south-facing courtyards, balconies and terraces, allowing outdoor activities in different weather conditions.
The building both blends into the larger landscape and reflects the rural nature of the region.
23
The youthful color scheme of the healthcare facility brings lively environment for elderly users during their treatment. The facades of the building are painted green on the outside to match the meadows, which camouflages itself in summer but stands out in the winter snow. Contrasting to the natural and soft external appearance. Large wide windows introduce the nature and natural light into the interior.
In addition, large wide windows introduce the nature and natural light into the interior. These features help getting rid of the generic hospital environment, creating a bright and colorful atmosphere for the elderly users.
24
The interior spaces feature red, creating bold and dynamic spaces atypical to the conventional colors that are normally used in healthcare institutions. Clear diagonal walls of red and white mark different areas, while also highlight special corners and furniture.
A feeling of lightness is generated by the under-faces of the overhangs and the white walls of the base. In the inside the layout offers views through one side to the other, with light punctuating primary circulation routes .

HOUSES FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE IN Alcácer do Sa
General info The project is based on a attentive reading of the life of a very specific kind of community, a sort of a micro-society with its own rules.
26
Reason of Selection: • • •
The building is built as different houses connected in one horizontal building They use only white color so is reflect the sunlight entering from their balcony. The room is private which it make each room have their own view.

27
Concept (Houses for Elderly People in Alcácer do Sal)
The building designed path, is a wall that naturally rises from the topography of the site and the surrounding area it limits and defines the open space, organizing the entire plot. The outdoor operation maintains the oldest trees, with more trees and shrubs planted to strengthen the concept of park linked to the nature of the place.
Elevation and sections.
28
Program, Spaces and functions A starting point for the architects was to define the issue between individual and community space in this kind of buildings. Evaluating the program of an elderly home, the architects wanted to work not only on the social spaces, but also design high quality private rooms for the individual. It is a program, somewhere in between a hotel and a hospital, that seeks to comprehend and reinterpret the combination social/private, answering to the needs of a social life, and at the same time of solitude.
Sections.
29
The building is not only composed by accommodations for elderly people but also by public areas for them to gather: studios for workshops, offices, kitchen and dining room and rooms for the people to spend time together, also in the outside area.
30
Considering the private spaces not only like rooms but as independent houses, volumes or units, they seem to literally combine on top of each other along with their empty terrace spaces into a unique building. On the ground floor, all the recreational and common areas are distributed: Reception, social rooms, dinning, kitchens and technical rooms like locker rooms, etc. Upper floors are primarily used for all the private bedrooms, individual or double, as well as some social interaction areas.

5.1 Data Collection. 5.2 Data Summary
59
5.1 Data Collection A survey was conducted and distributed among friends and family from different culture, age, nationalities and many more. The survey mainly was done to ask people about their opinion regarding specific thing in the project: what do people thing about elderly houses and their needs. The survey aims to explore people’s desires in order to fulfil their wants. It included easy questions, so they can understand and give their opinion smoothly. The questions were: Age? Gender? What do you think could be the most common reason for elderly people to dislike elderly houses? Do you think that elderly houses help the elderly people living in it emotionally? In your opinion, what is the main reason that makes elderly people feel that they are important in the society? What do you think among those therapists is the best for elderly people? Do you think the building design could change elderly mindset about elderly houses? In your opinion, which matters the most when it comes to elderly people about elderly houses? In your opinion, What kind of separation will be best for elderly people? And finally, do you think that elderly houses should be provided for each city?
4.1 Data evaluation and Conclusions. Depending on the survey a lot of people almost had the same mindset. 46.03% thing that the limited communication is the most common reason for elderly people to dislike elderly houses. 57.14% thing that maybe elderly houses help the elderly people living in it emotionally. 76.19% think that love, take care of, and protect their weakness is the main reason that makes elderly people feel that they are important in the society. 66.67% think that physical therapy is the best therapist for elderly people. 65.08% of people agreed that the design of the building could change elderly mindset about elderly houses. 58.73% people think that the outdoor space is the most important in elderly houses for elderly people. 43.86% of people think that we most not separate elderly people at all. 66.67% of people agreed that elderly houses should be provided for each city. Result analysis are listed up in the Appendix.

And as some people said:
A Salvation Army Elderly Care Home – Davidson House, is one of the best examples of building that take care of elderly people and as Linda Moore the wife of elderly Divid, is someone who appreciate that personal care she visit divide every day, she said that this elderly home “Is a beautiful place is really light and there are no nasty smells, lovely and the food is wonderful”.
Elderly Eileen Godsave she is 88 years old, after she lost her husband, she decide that could not live alone anymore so she came to this elderly home. She said that this elderly home “Is a lovely home and I’m very happy her really, the space to go, you can walk around, freedom, I nice garden, the staff are very good and I feel productive her”.
Residential and nursing care homes is another example of building that take care of elderly people. Elderly Margaret said, “I didn’t like living alone especially waking up in the morning to absolute silence and nobody very near to me so I came into a residential car home, had I look at it and I was impressed it look as though it was just what I wanted so I move in. it’s my own private space nobody else come in uninvited”.
Elderly Veenie said “I couldn’t possibly look after myself at home I did it for a while but it was getting very difficult so they decided to bring me here. 06 E S T I M A T E D B U D G E T 6.1 Estimate cost of executions
63
Estimated Budget An estimate is necessary to give the owner a reasonably accurate idea of the cost to help him decide whether the work can be undertaken as proposed or needs to be curtailed or abandoned, depending upon the availability of funds and prospective direct and indirect benefits. For government works proper sanction has to be obtained for allocating the required amount. Works are often let out on a lump sum basis, in which case the construction estimator must be in a position to know exactly how much expenditure he is going to incur on them.
•
ESTIMATING MATERIALS
From the estimate of a work it is possible to determine what materials and in what quantities will be required for the work so that the arrangements to procure them can be made.
•
ESTIMATING LABOR
The number and kind of workers of different categories who will have to be employed to complete the work in the specified time can be found out from the estimate.
•
ESTIMATING PLANT
An estimate will help in determining amount and kind of equipment needed to complete the work.
•
ESTIMATING TIME
The estimate of a work and the past experience enable one to estimate quite closely the length of time required to complete an item of work or the work as a whole.
Whereas the importance of knowing the probable cost needs no emphasis, estimating materials, labor, plant and time is immensely useful in planning and execution of any construction work.

7.1 Description of the program Elderly house is a place where old people can live together and be cared for when they are too weak or ill to take care of themselves and it is suitable for the needs of elderly people which ranges from independent living to 24-hour attention and has a major impact on their physical and mental health. Elderly houses emphasis on safety, accessibility, adaptability, and longevity of elderly people. The elderly house the iam going to build uses lots of technology to develop the facilities as much as possible for the elderly people, the building will be divided into: Entrance, Education are, Activities area, Residential area, Elderly room, Rehabilitation and finally the service area, and will be culturally based for everyone around the world to make them not only feel they are just in their homes but to also make them remember about their history and cultural which should be with them forever
7.2 Process of achieving program numbers The section demonstrates the planned programming feature. The numbers selected came after the observations of case studies, site analysis, user feedbacks and the general data. Considerations -
Circulation: The circulation of this building should be large, 25% will be perfectly enough for the elderly people to move, for example people using wheelchair wouldn’t be able to turn if the space is so small and might actually hit others accidently and can cause them serious injuries and so to avoid these kinds of things they must have good space for them to walk and move freely.

8.1 Design Concept Summary Checking out many case studies made me realize and get the idea that elderly people hate elderly houses because of the mistreatment that happens to some elderly people around the world and how elderly houses mainly looks like jails and hospitals And so that encourage me to build a new elderly house full of technology to help them enjoy to the end, this is not just a simple elderly house, this is a place to be taken good care of and enjoy, have many activities and games and most importantly to meet people from all around the world to learn and know more about their culture, histories, etc. The concept is divided into two: commercial building and residential building which are connected through nature. The commercial building in also divided into units like, the education area, service area etc. the residential building looks like its divided cubes which are connected through an L-shape for each room to have its own views. The commercial building is surrounded by the residential building for them to be closing as much as possible. Using new technologies is really important especially in elderly houses, like in each room should have a telephone where when they pick it up it calls the nurse immediately. For the elderly who uses wheelchair, the wheelchair shouldn’t be a mechanical but should an electronically with sensors to help know when they are so close to the wall or to someone. sensors should be used mostly in the building where there should be sensors for air conditioner ,where if the room is too cold the air conditioner should close when the room temperature goes to hot the air conditioner should on, seniors for their bed when the bed is sit up for a long time it should lay again for their backs not hurt, seniors for light where in the morning there is enough sunshine to enter from the window so no need for the lights to be on , natural lights should be used as well, there will an electronic path way since the distances from each building can be a little far for them to walk and so an electric path way will make it faster for them to reach and easier.

8.2 Site Response and Program Layout The site has a view from all the side. The north west of HCT-Alain men’s college and Al-Ain zoo, in the Est side there are empty space, finally in the west and south side of the site there are a residential building. The site is highly accessible from the three sides by main roads, pedestrians and public transportation. The site has some green spaces scattered in different part of site.
In any project there are a lot of issues can face the designer and it affect and lead the design towards solving this issue, such as: • Weather • Safety • Project users • Site orientation and context • Acoustical issues • Energy conservation

09 Report Summary To sum up, this elderly house is not just a house where elderly people live the life of jails and be treated like patients, this elderly house is made to help the elderly people in many ways and take good care of them .elderly houses should be built perfectly to satisfy all elderlies and make them feel
as if they are in their own houses, it shouldn’t look to bold like hospitals or jails because this effects their psychology and leads to depressions and anxiety, so it should be in more loveable environment out of noise and polluted Areas and should connect with outdoor space, .this place is built to change the elderly people mindset about the elderly houses since they’ve seen elderly houses in some part of the world where elderly people are being treated badly in elderly houses and so I want to prove to them that this elderly house is not the same as others .from different parts of the world, different religions, different colors, different cultures and histories all in one place which is this elderly house. Communication with nature and people, technologies, colorful attractive building, many activities and rooms all in one place.
