ARCHITETTURA SONORA Applied Acoustics

Innovation inspired by Nature

ARCHITETTURA SONORA

Architettura Sonora was born in 2009 when the visionary and innovative intuitions of the Sound&Experience Design team joined forces with the professional audio market leader B&C Speakers: the multi-sensory approach in architectural spaces and experiences design, combined with the state of the art in loudspeakers engineering and manufacturing, giving birth to a new paradigm for the design of SOUND IMMERSIVE SPACE DESIGN. The strength of A.S. resides in the MULTIDISCIPLINARY approach and in the variety of skills and competencies of its team: acousticians, architects, sound designers, musicians, electroacoustic and mechanical engineers. All with one goal to pursue: enhancing the distinctive qualities of any architecture, both indoors and outdoors. Our collections of SOUND MODULES, characterized by unconventional shapes and specific acoustical behaviors, can be combined as an orchestra of music instruments, with the overall goal of transforming the spatial perception, favoring a DYNAMIC EXPERIENCE of the human habitat. A strong commitment to SPACE DESIGN, conceived as a living and environmental whole, where the expressive power of music is turned into architectural experience.

5

CONCEPT

Architettura Sonora designs immersive audio systems. The goal of Architettura Sonora is primarily to redesign the EXPERIENCE OF SPACE through a wise sound diffusion, that should be diverse as diverse are the different functions, styles and practices of living. This key objective drove our designs, both in terms of variety of shapes, molded by electro-acoustics and emission directionality principles, and in terms of the many aesthetic values, mimesis and material/ environmental integration, offered by the A.S. sound modules collection.

7

Architettura Sonora takes you into a new dimension of SOUND SPACE DESIGN. The variety of music and of the living functions associated to the use of music today, are offering A.S. the opportunity for a radical reconsideration of the integration between SOUND and ARCHITECTURE. A radical reconsideration that ranges from the hardware -the aesthetics of our sound emission forms and their peculiar spatial arrangement practices - up to the music selection, the sound design and the adaptive sound space software design – A.S. custom designs music contents, either selected or originally composed. A.S. can also design sitespecific automatic multichannel SPATIALIZATION software, able to simulate immersive and surround sound spaces, starting even from a normal music piece. The sound space design principles driving Architettura Sonora are intended to break the static listening culture (the stereophonic one, related to the controlled reproduction of the “concert” experience) and to strongly introduce the IMMERSIVE and MULTI-CENTRIC praxis of listening to “within a space” as a central condition of the architectural experience.

Architectural Sonic Modules

ARCHITECTURAL SONIC MODULES

The distinctive shape of A.S. architectural sonic modules is conceived to be electro-acoustically efficient and capable of focusing, projecting and “interplaying” with specific architectural dimensions and materiality. Combining different sonic modules and their different directional properties allow us to fully redesign the ACOUSTIC EXPERIENCE of any architecture, both indoors and outdoors. The suspended modules’ inner reflecting surface (i.e. Drop or Helmet) allows them to achieve a highly DIRECTIONAL sound emission. Varying and adjusting their orientation/placement can drive people’s attention and movement towards certain directions, exploring and redesigning specific architectural features, or creating multiple and independent micro-areas within a wide main space. The richness of tones and radial diffusion characterizing our OMNIDIRECTIONAL modules’ sound emission (like Cylinder and Sphere) resembles the one of a natural sound source. Approaching such a sound module in a natural environment, makes you sense a smooth and regular increase of sound pressure level and feel the profound wideness of the sound source, such as when approaching a waterfall or a fountain. In an indoor context, their unpredictable omnidirectional reflections are even more intriguing, because they fully interact with the architecture, EXCITING the “architectural game” of space discovery. The A.S. collection of sound modules, designed by Lorenzo Brusci with the support of Alessandro Genovese’s electroacoustic design, has been enriched with the new VD line, designed by landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic. The sensibility and design philosophy that drove the creation of his renowned POETIC LANDSCAPES around the world is fully recognizable in these stunning new pieces: craftsmanship and materiality together reconnecting with what is ESSENTIAL and NATURAL.

A.S. Amplifiers

A.S. AMPLIFIERS

Architettura Sonora has developed AS-A series amplifiers, a flexible and great-sounding multi-channel amplifiers collection, designed specifically to drive the architectural sonic modules manufactured by A.S. and to guarantee the maximum QUALITY and RELIABILITY. Our amplifiers ENHANCE and BOOST the sound experience provided by an Architettura Sonora system.

39

AMPLIFIERS All AS-A amplifiers have been fully designed with switching technology (Class D – ICEpower Technology) and preamplifiers circuits based on the latest generation, class-A VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifiers) to obtain HIGH POWER and PERFORMANCES with a very low weight, a result which cannot be achieved with traditional configurations. The available configurations, diversified by number of channels and available power, allow to configure, in the most simple way, sound systems from the most basic to the most complex. All AS-A amplifiers are 2RU (2 standard 19” rack units) and may be used free-standing, installed in either a rack cabinet or a flight-case box. All amplifiers can be equipped with DSP (digital signal processor) to find the most suitable setup for any kind of installation. The DSP board is composed by 4 processors to control up to 16 independent channels, whose programming is created by a Graphical Environment Tool - Sigma Studio (Analog Device). The integrated amplifiers’ available power and quality make them the IDEAL SOLUTION to be used in any application requiring to drive a large number of quality speakers.

Contract Division

CONTRACT DIVISION

A.S. Contract Division supports architects and designers with the know-how gained over a long experience in architectural sound space design and in professional audio components manufacturing. A.S. Contract Division can provide customized solutions even for the most intricate requests, both for retail, institutional, residential and outdoor public spaces. It emerges thus as the IDEAL PARTNER to handle the many aspects of contract work.

47

CUSTOM DESIGN We are open to discuss with you every kind of requirement and we can develop custom loudspeakers for different applications. Under certain constraints, it is possible to modify existing shapes and their acoustic principles, or to co-design new acoustic shapes to achieve a full aesthetic, site-specific coherency. INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS When “no visible loudspeaker” is the main criteria, then A.S. can provide TOP SOUNDING SYSTEMS integrated in-wall, in-ceiling, almost in every object, every piece of furniture you can think about. This is even more true if a very close collaboration with architects and designers can start early at the architectural space design stage. SOUND DESIGN At A.S. we are not only producing technology, we are also shaping SOUND ART. We have a team of sound designers which convert your ideas, moods and emotions you want to convey into an ORIGINAL SOUNDSCAPE: content creation meets content transduction for an integral approach to audio communication and space experience.
