Introduction of AFRIKArchi Created in 2011 by students and professionals mainly of African descent, AFRIKArchi (ex ArchBENIN) is a Non-Profit Association, represented in several African countries such as: SOUTH AFRICA, ALGERIA, BENIN, THE IVORY COAST, GHANA, EQUATORIAL GUINEA, MALI, MOROCCO, NIGER, NIGERIA, TANZANIA, SENEGAL, TOGO, TUNISIA‌ AFRIKArchi aims to sustain and amplify the teaching of Architecture, Urban planning and Civil engineering in Africa. The goal is to create and promote a positive and dynamic image of local African building materials as well as to develop inspiration and creativity among professionals and students in architecture, urban planning and civil engineering. We want to give professionals and students the opportunity to discover and appreciate architectural and technical possibilities, to develop renewable energies technics, in order to make Africans realize that fields such as architecture, urban planning or civil engineering offer potentialities and are a also a way to create wealth. AFRIKArchi quickly became one of the most attractive Facebook page with about 1,600 Fans and more than 17, 000 active users.

Our projects - ARCHIGINEER AFRICA COMPETITION : For its first edition, this competition aims to encourage, stimulate and reward the creativity and the inventiveness of Africa’s Talent Young architects, urban planners and engineers. - INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION : An exhibition of 15 projects selected by the Jury will take place in several cities accross the world such as Cotonou, Kumasi, Bamako, Dakar, Tunis, Tanzania, Paris, Grenoble, Goussainville, Tokyo... The purpose of this international exhibition is to promote the African talented executives-to be on the international level. - SOCIAL ACTIONS : They will consist in fitting out workshops in schools, universities and polytechnics accross Africa, with computers - software and equipments giving the possibility to students to construct models and participate in projects.

Introduction of the ARCHIGINEER AFRICA COMPETITION This competition was born with the will to encourage, stimulate and reward the creativity and the inventiveness of Africa’s Young Architects, Urban planners and Engineers.. Open to students in architecture, urban planning and civil engineering, the competition’s objective is to create and promote a positive and dynamic image of traditional African local building materials. Moreover, it will inspire students as well as professionals by making them aware of various architectural and technical possibilities. The competition is open to young professionals graduated in 2012 and students enrolled in Africa architecture, urban planning or civil engineering schools, polytechnics and universities; whether African descent or not. The students will compete individually or in teams (4 maximum).
Programme of the competition For the first edition, participants are required to design COLLECTIVE HOUSING in Africa. Registrations are opened untill 30th November 2012. Participants have three months to draw their projects and hand it back before 31st December 2012 at 5 p.m. Participants will have to provide the overall site plan, floor plans, cross-sections and elevations (facades), perspectives, 3D details of the construction principles, axonometric and others. Also, they will have to show the structural and important parts of the project, to favor the use of local building material. Along with these documents, they need to hand over 2 A4 typed text explaining their choices (site location, materials,…) An International Jury will rank the winner groups and select the 15 projects which will be presented at the great International Exhibition set up by AFRIKArchi from March 2013. The competition will take place every year. Given what is at stake, it should be an important landmark and a source of African pride.

Introduction of the Organizing Committee. The organizing committee of the “ARCHIGINEER AFRICA 2012� Competition is composed of students and professionals from African and Europe. Since most of us are employed in the fields related to this competition, our organization is qualified enough to address what is professionally and socially at stake in this contest.

A competition to promote talents A competition to serve development, with an emphasis on the use of traditional local materials and sustainable development in Africa. The competition has been conceived with the idea of developing high standards, inspiration, and to make participants aware of architectural and technical possibilities through the use of traditional and/or local African materials (wood, adobe, straw)... In this competition, along with the traditional first, second and third prizes, there will be twelve groups selected whom projects will be presented at the international exhibition. The prize winners will receive several types of prizes - 1st Prize : 1000â‚Ź - 2nd Prize : 700â‚Ź - 3rd Prize : 500â‚Ź Others prizes : Autodesk Softwares (15), Tactile Pad, Handycam HDD, Books, Camera incorporated Pen, HDD 1Tera, USB32Go, Trainings sessions opportunities ... The 15 projects will be publicized on our website, blog and facebook . The aim is also to help and facilitate participants in publicizing their projects, finding job opportunities, training sessions in renowned universities, schools and international firms. With its natural resources, its opening to the western world, its range of architectural and technical, traditional and modern forms with its many assets in terms of tourism, Africa is facing a QUICK AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. This competition is a project which should significantly help in this way, by strengthening the bonds of cooperation and friendship, bringing African countries and the rest of the world closer. This should lead to cooperation between Schools, Universities or Polytechnic Schools of Africa and the Western world. Thanks to the activities it will generate, the competition will have an impact in terms of jobs, economy and finance for the students and professionals. The emphasis put on the use of traditional local building materials will help the participants to better appreciate materials already existing in their own countries by making them discover the importance of those materials in the architecture field.

Pre-Program and Organization of the Competition The competition launching The competition will be launched on 1st October 2012. The participants (maximum 4 personnes per team) could register until 30th Novomber 2012. Projects should be submitted on 31st December 2012 at 5pm. Participants could hand out their projects to the Representative of AFRIKArchi in their countries, or directely send them to AFRIKArchi Head Office. More details about the competition will be given in the Competition Rules that will be publicized on the launching date.
Deliberation of the Jury In January 2013, an International Jury composed of experts in Architecture, Urban planning and Civil-Engineering will deliberate to select the best three projects, and also the twelve projects that will be presented at the international exhibition. After deliberation, the winners groups and the 12 selected projects will be publicized on AFRIKArchi website, facebook page, blog, the media and schools partners.
