SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY

ARCHITECTURE BUILDING USE FALL 2020

The vision of the School of Architecture is to empower students to make creative contributions in the cause of architecture. The mission of the School of Architecture is to cultivate a collaborative learning community focused upon critical thinking and ethical responsibility. We embrace established fundamentals and encourage the exploration of emerging innovations in design and technology.

OUR NEW COMMUNITY ‘RULES’ This Fall things will be different. We need your help! In order to keep the Donald W. Reynolds School of Architecture Building open for your use this fall, there are many changes to our operations that must occur. Please observe the following new normal! BUILDING ACCESS Doors into the building will be unlocked from 7am-5pm MondayFriday, and card swipe access will be available 5pm-8pm during the work week. Students may not be in the building after 8pm. Card swipe access will also be available 7am-8pm Saturday and Sunday, unless there is a scheduled Saturday OSU football game at which date no building access will be granted. PUBLIC SPACES Students must observe signage and comply with OSU instructions for facial masks, distancing, movement patterns, and occupation of spaces. Designated entries and exits to the building and to classrooms must be observed. Open lounge spaces, or table/work spaces adjacent to studios may be used with appropriate precautions such as limited seating, facial masks, and social distancing.

STUDIOS Studio desks are assigned positions. Desks may not be rotated within the aisle. Students should view their desk in studio as a workspace for their 7am-8pm day. OTHER EDUCATIONAL SPACES Our Shops will be available for student use, however, the fabrication shop will be open by appointment only. No more than four students are allowed in the fabrication shop at a time, in addition to shop staff. Only one student in the laser room at a time. And only one student in either of the Binding/Printing shops at a time. Classroom spaces have been recalibrated for occupancy in accordance with CDC guidelines. Conformance to these allowable seating locations is mandatory. Students are not allowed in the faculty office area. Meetings with faculty, such as for office hours or for other questions outside of classtime, must take place over phone or Zoom, or in larger spaces that accommodate appropriate social distancing. EXTERIOR SPACES Please use our North and South Plazas, but socially distance!

WHAT IF... Your close friend has tested positive, or someone in your studio is diagnosed with COVID? Accept the fact that if you have been in close contact with that friend or classmate, you were exposed. Don’t panic. This is going to happen. You should monitor your health closely, self quarantine if necessary, and get tested. This is how we contain the virus in our community. You feel feverish, or have any COVID-like symptoms? Stay home and monitor your situation. Let your professors know why you are absent. Keep up with classwork that is posted on Canvas. Call 405-744-7665 to make an appointment for a test swab with University Health Services. You are diagnosed with COVID? Obviously follow your doctor’s orders. Let your faculty know of the situation. Concentrate on doing what is needed to get better! Return to the studio and your classes when you are cleared by a doctor to do so.

OTHER ISSUES What if I don’t have ample workspace or a good internet connection at home? Well, you’ll need to find places to study and work elsewhere - Edmon Low Library, CEAT Student Excellence Center, etc. And, you’ll need a laptop to work in the new ‘mobile’ society. Your studio desk is a workday landing spot, not a “home” as you may have used it in the past. We’ll all have to adjust. What if my classmate refuses to wear a mask? Alert your faculty member, who will pass that student’s name to the Student Conduct Board for action. Facial masks are required to be worn on campus, in our buildings. Is there still free coffee at the School of Architecture? Unfortunately, no, we cannot provide ‘food service’. You can bring your own k-cups and use the Coffee Cart, however.
