Factors for Success

FACTORS FOR SUCCESS Despite all the difficulties and differences in post-conflict situations, certain factors can be determined that should be included in the strategy for intervention or building (both material and imaterial).

PUBLICNESS SKILLS COMMUNALITY TRUST CONTEXT SUSTAINABILITY IDENTIFICATION LEGITIMACY MODESTY SAFETY TIME

Architects must facilitate civic life by providing gathering spaces.

Architects must train and hire locals to increase expertise and employment. Sharing and exchange must be facilitated in the process so as to sustain or develop a sense of community. Partnerships must be based on mutual trust and commitment to maximize the project viability. The architect must take into account and work with local concepts of city, public space and civil society. The project should be able to continue following the withdrawal of its initiators. The architect must provide a sense of belonging. The project must be seen as a consequence of local need rather than an external intervention. The architect must commit that the project should and will be taken over by the locals. Provision of individual and collective security needs to be sustained. Project initiators must sustain their commitment toward post-conflict situations in the long term.
