RESEARCH COLLABORATORS Architecture Workroom Brussels (AW) is expanding its team with two research collaborators to work on a number of ongoing projects, including the You Are Here 2020 research and culture trajectory, as well as research trajectories on open space, the energy transition and urban management.You will be part of a dynamic and committed team.You will offer support in managing, supervising and implementing one or more of AW’s projects. Employees of AW undeniably have at least one thing in common: they have a design-oriented background and / or have a strong affinity for space, architecture or the future of city and landscape. Based on this shared motivation, the team performs various tasks depending on the various processes: in addition to cultural production (exhibitions, publications, etc.), this also includes design research (pilot projects, design explorations, co-design and participation processes, etc.), and making substantive progress and (supervising) managing knowledge sharing and development, of initiation and exploration processes for new spatial transformation programs, policy, etc. Job description The research collaborator: - collects and structures insights about overarching and complex themes into a clear and coherent story, and translates that into text and / or image (bundling and in-depth research and editing); - will assist in formulating and drawing up (new) project and process plans and facilitating and/or conducting design research in function of substantive breakthroughs, as well as (assisting to) form partnerships with pertinent private and public actors; - helps translate the insights into cultural products for both a professional audience (online platform, etc.) and for a wider audience (exhibitions, lectures, etc.); - coordinates trajectories of prospective design research and takes care of the organization and practical implementation of the actions; - analyses and synthesizes the work delivered; - ensures the follow-up of the budget, planning and administration of the projects.

Profile We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and talented candidates: - who hold a Master’s Degree in architecture, urban planning, spatial planning or similar acquired through experience; - who are driven by involvement in social and spatial issues, particularly in relation to climate change and urbanization, and prepared to take the complexity as a starting point; - who have a naturally investigative and analytical attitude; - who are able to approach complex issues in a structured way, to synthesise them and to translate them into work processes; - who have experience and talent in the area of design and/or implementation of urban planning projects; - who are talented in organization and management; - who are prepared to work in a multidisciplinary (substance, production) team; - fluent in Dutch, French and/or English, both verbally and in writing; - who possess a vision and knowledge of the theory, practice and the latest developments related to architecture and urban planning; - with an interest in culture production (organising exhibitions, public events, publication of books etc.); - with knowledge of basic software packages: Adobe Creative, Microsoft Office, CAD and GIS software; - who are results-oriented and able to perform well under pressure; - who are highly flexible in terms of working hours, certainly not a nine-to-fiver. As initiator, mediator and platform, AW creates the space and conditions for developing new spatial practices and strategies (design research, cartography, process design, policy design, etc.), and thus focuses on translating the major transitions and challenges of our time into new types of projects and transformation programs, and on forming customized coalitions and new commissioning duties. AW consists of a team of 20 designers and researchers, and is led by three partners. AW’s extended strategic lines of action focus on: visionary and affordable housing, space for renewable energy, water and biodiversity, healthy food, shared mobility, circular economy and ports, caring neighbourhoods and the productive city. As a platform for design research and knowledge sharing, AW contributes to the broad social debate, to professional practice and knowledge development, and to the renewal of urban development and policy. Brussels, small cosmopolitan and Capital of Europe, is the ideal base - and also often the laboratory - for AW to contribute to the national and international debate on shaping the urbanising world in which we live. We offer - a collaboration on freelance basis for an indefinite period; - the remuneration and the terms of employment are in accordance with the difficulty of the position, suitable for a medium sized cultural organization and depending on qualifications and experience.
