The first task to complete in the proccess is to compile all the information from the various sources - consultants, manuals, specialists, etc. This can be then synthesised into spreadsheet consisting of various data which will serve to drive the diagram simulation. Each row is a different space from the brief. For each space there is a specific function; a department for its programmatic grouping; an area in square meters; an optional level in case there are any restrictions / recommendations; and the hierarchical connections to other spaces illustrated through a proximity matrix. An advantige of this method is that the spreadsheet can be shared accross the team members and each of them can give input on their own sphere. For example, the restaurant operators can give detailed information about their spatial requirements and mark them on the spreadsheet. This would be directly visable to the architect through the diagrams genarated from the schedule, without having to go through and analyse complex guides. This way the process is optimised and saves time and effort.
