The Andrews Catalog 2011 SPECIAL EDITION TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OF FIELD AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH OF THE FIRST 1000+ CROP CIRCLE FORMATIONS
Colin Andrews
Publisher Forward The ANDREWS CATALOG system was established by Colin Andrews twenty-seven years ago, in 1983, during the initial period of his research into this phenomenon. He developed the numbering system used in this Catalog to help with cross referencing details in his unique database, which then was growing very rapidly and included reports from multiple eyewitnesses and other field researchers. This Catalog documents Colin’s scientific study of the crop circles phenomenon, and adds significantly to the collective body of knowledge and understanding which current and future researchers are encouraged to reference. The dates, locations, and field reports in this Catalog may differ significantly from other crop circle databases, books, and government reports. Hopefully it can serve as a resource for other researchers to cross-reference their own observations and reports. Such is the way of science. The data-sets of the Catalog have been updated each year but the drawings and photographs since 2003 have had limited updating, and rely significantly on resources from other researchers. The data-sets are also being made available online later in 2011. The Andrews Catalog is part of the Andrews Archives Series, a multivolume set of historical accounts from the Colin Andrews Archives of early crop circle research. In 2011 additional Special Editions from the Series will be published, both in print and eBook formats.

The Phenomenon It is clear to me that the evidence is growing exponentially that whatever or whomever is involved in the creation of the genuine crop circles around the world has a collective “mind.” Crop circles (a term first coined by Colin Andrews) are circular shapes usually found in cereal crops in which the vegetation is bent over at right angles and spiraled into an often complex pattern. Authentic crop circles show no damage to the plants, unlike hoaxed circles in which the stalks are broken and crushed. In authentic crop circles, the plants are gently bent over, yet continue to grow. The plants in faked circles are often killed by the “circle-makers.” Initially, in the early years of the 20th century manifestations of this phenomenon, the shapes were nothing more than simple circles. In later years, the patterns actually became much more complex, and have consisted of combinations of complex geometric designs, including straight lines, spirals, angles, and other clearly discernible and recognizable patterns. 10

There have been 3,000 fully documented crop circles that have occurred in the last two decades. In my master database of crop circle formations, there are over 10,000 documented formations. There were over 700 crop circles during 1991. This was the highest number of occurrences during the last 20 years, but on average, approximately 200 crop designs appear worldwide each year. There seems to be a consciousness at the very source of the formations, and it is obvious that there is thought involved. Where or what that source is at this moment in our history, and in the history of the phenomenon, is very difficult to ascertain. However, I believe that we are all involved in a process, the final goal of which is a complete understanding of precisely what is going on.
PRIMER
Crop Circles Of the Past There are many historical accounts of crop circle formations before the 20th century, some going back many hundreds of years. The first recorded account of an event that has many of the characteristics common to the formation of a crop circle dates from August 8, 1590, and was detailed in a book published in 1686 called The Natural History of Stafford-Shire by Robert Plott. A peasant named Nicolae Lang- Bernhand was walking to his home around mid-day that day when he noticed some peculiar activity going on in a field by the side of the road. Upon closer investigation, he saw a group of people dancing in a circle in the field. Upon even closer investigation (close enough to see their legs and feet) he saw that some of them had cloven feet. As Lang-Bernhand observed them, the dancers all suddenly rose into the air and disappeared. In the field where they had been cavorting appeared a circular
indentation, which remained on the ground until the farmer who owned the field plowed it under the following harvest time. According to Plott, many people from the surrounding area visited the crop circle while it existed. No mention is made of what happened to the cloven-foot dancers. Plott also states that powerful whirlwinds rose up during this event, and that one of them was strong enough to pick up the farmer and carry him to a field some distance away. A measure of skepticism is called for when evaluating this account since it was, after all, recounted almost 100 years after it supposedly took place. But even if we strip away some of the more fanciful elements of the story (such as the cloven2011 SPECIAL EDITION

The Many Theories Crop circles don’t really do anything—other than appear in the fields and stun the senses with their beauty. There are many theories as to how and why crop circles are appearing on our planet. In this section, I will discuss separately the principal and most compelling hypotheses for these enigmatic, unearthly “terran beauty marks.”
Perhaps we are not meant to delve too deeply into the “mechanics” of their formation. Perhaps their purpose is to speak to our souls.
In no particular order, I will look at the prevailing theories. It is a fact that crop circle manifestations are real and that there is scientific evidence to prove that there are differences between the plants in hoaxed formations and the plants in authentic manifestations.
But because crop circles don’t really do anything—other than appear in the fields and stun the senses with their beauty— science has been loath to commit time and resources toward explaining and understanding them.

Research Process Over time the research processes used changed from simple measuring, drawn diagrams, 35mm photography, small airplanes, and pins on a map—to that of sophisticated magnetic field readings, digital video, satellite imagery analysis, scientific laboratories, and of course the internet. Two of the key “artifacts of this research are standardized field drawings, which were used in the study of over 2,500 direct field investigations of the crop circle formation phenomenon.
Crop Circle Family Types The Andrews Crop Circle Catalog system was established in 1983. Each crop pattern is assigned a specific “T” number. I have included designs for all of the crop formations I have investigated during my research over the years, be they authentic or man-made. The designs are not all drawn to scale, although many are. Some patterns have appeared many times in various countries, crop types, and seasons. As this Catalog developed it became clear that the 1000’s of formations also fit into groupings I call “families”, meaning that they attempt to communicate a similar theme, message, or thought-form. The five basic families developed from this research are:
Religious & Mandala Mathematical & Scientific Astronomy Nature Script
During the past decade there has also been a great many formations which could be classified as “prophetic”. Many of these are directly related to the 2012 mystery.

Plant Analysis
As some skeptics have said, the crop circles are only a story about bent plants. The plants are bent just above the ground and not creased or buckled. After they have been flattened to the ground a few hours, the nodal points along the length of the stems expand

Orbs In The Fields Colin in the field with an identified black object flying around.
Orbs have appeared in the fields to many researchers, circle makers, and other observers They also seem to appear in photos and video most anywhere. There are many examples of the orbs a few of which we present here. During 1994 I was present with a team of researchers overlooking East Field,
Alton Barnes, Wiltshire, England when two army helicopters approached us moments before they engaged one of the 'Balls of Light' seen quite regularly in that area.

UFO’s & Crop Circles
Several times during the course of my research I was actually warned not to link UFO’s with crop circles. I was warned by prominent members of the British UFO Research Association (B.U.F.O.R. A.) not to mention the two together in media interviews. I was also warned by CIA operatives working at the Pentagon to avoid making this link. I wonder why there is such concern to acknowledge that there are many UFO crop circle connections.

Reports of crop circles have been accompanied by UFO sightings since the earliest records of the phenomenon. Many UFO researchers did not want evidence of the crop circle/UFO association in the public domain. Some did not want it because the emphasis on crop circles took the focus off their own UFO research.
24
THE ANDREWS CATALOG
Others did not want the association because they believed that ultimately the crop circles would be proven man-made and they were afraid this would taint ‘legitimate’ UFO research. Still others were part of government disinformation.

Numerous crop circles have appeared on Town Farm, Westbury, UK They began to be discovered during 1980 and were simple forms. This single circle had a magnificent swirl and was visible from the distant Westbury White Horse. A very impressive photograph was taken by research colleague, Busty Taylor in which a bright white disc can be seen very close to the center of the swirl. All three of us present heard a dull bump at the time the photograph was taken but the object was not seen by us but appeared on the negative and photograph when developed.

Crop Circles A-Z Agriglyph A word coined to describe crop circle patterns and designs. Its genesis was the word “petroglyph,” which is a carving or a line drawing on rock. The Greek prefix “petro-” was replaced with “agri-”, a variant of “agro-” to indicate that the drawings were being done in fields. The suffix “glyph” means “word.”
Balls of Light Many witnesses to crop circle formation have reported seeing balls of golden light floating and flitting above fields where, shortly thereafter, a crop circle appeared. Sometimes, the balls are reported as being silvery and metallic. Some witnesses state that the balls move with purpose and that they seemed to be reading their minds.
Alton Barnes Area in Wiltshire, England, known for its scenic splendor, archaeological sites, crop circle manifestations, and UFO sightings. Alton Barnes is within the 41.5-mile crop circle equilateral triangle in central southern England identified by Colin Andrews.
These balls of light are prevalent in the Avebury area of England. They particularly center around one hill where they are seen so often that the hill is known as “Golden Ball Hill.” There is no concrete evidence that these balls are responsible for, or in some way connected to, the creation of crop circles. However, there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence (as well as quite a bit of movie footage of the lights) that indicates that they are often seen in the area of crop circles.
The Andrews Catalog A catalogue of black-and-white silhouettes of hundreds of crop circle designs, both authentic and manmade. Colin Andrews continues to add designs to this massive compilation. Avebury Village built inside the world’s largest stone circle in Wiltshire, England, one mile north of Silbury Hill, with Stonehenge and other prehistoric archaeological sites nearby. A great deal of crop circle activity occurs in Avebury and surrounding environs.
The association with crop circles is still unknown, but there does indeed seem to be some kind of nexus between the balls and the circles. Barbury Castle Tetrahedron A massive,12,000-square-yard crop formation that appeared in one night on July 16, 1991, in a field near the hill fort of Barbury Castle in Wiltshire, England.
Author Biography Colin Andrews is best known for his research into the crop circle & UFO subjects since 1983. He provides the only continuity between the past crop circle research era and the present, along with his friend and colleague, Busty Taylor. His long view of both the genuine phenomenon and the human-made phenomenon provides unique insight into the subject. His research results indicate the intelligence behind the phenomenon is interacting with both crop circle researchers and many of the people who make the hoaxes. He has publicly stated since the late 1980’s that the phenomenon indicates a future period of human chaos. The period indicated, supported by current trends, can be changed with human awareness and he believes there are serious eco-political implications and that the future direction of the planet is at the center of the phenomenon. In the final analysis Andrews believes the phenomenon is challenging people to a higher level of consciousness. Some native elders agree with Colin’s assessment which is supported by the 2012 Mayan Prophecy, which is debated and detailed in, The Complete Idiots Guide to 2012.

Colin’s twenty-five year investigation continues with growing urgency for openness and honesty in government and private research, respect for divergent opinions and co-operation between investigators in all areas. He is an accomplished professional photographer, who has been invited to show his photographs in art galleries across the United States, including the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Cortland Jessup Art Gallery in Provincetown, Cape Cod. One spectacular photograph of Princess Diana and Prince Charles on their honeymoon was presented to the Queen and to this day also hangs in the Mayors Parlour at Romsey, England - the home town of Prince Charles uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten of Burma. Past History Colin Andrews is an electrical engineer by profession and was a principle official in British Regional Government during the 1970’s and 80’s. He became involved in the crop circle mystery in 1983 when he saw an arrangement of five circles in a wheat field near Winchester, England. Intrigued by the engineering aspects, he began investigating the circles with Pat Delgado, a retired NASA engineer,
