Hazelwood Revitalization Context and Architectural Form Making • Fall 2007

Contextual Mapping

After an in-depth analysis of the Second Avenue corridor in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Hazelwood, many shortcomings appeared as reasons to the decline of this once thriving area. Using Contextual Mapping, site analysis data was converted into a two dimensional graphic surface. With this graphic, now understood as a potential pattern for Hazelwood’s future development, the technique of Folding was used to create space and form through the manipulation of surfaces.
