RISHI NANDI

CHRIS O’HARA

Nandi brings over 15 years’ experience working on complex projects including museums, academic buildings, executive dormitories, and bridges. These projects often incorporate double-skin curtain walls and atriums that require creative solutions to meet client goals while minimizing environmental impact. Nandi has spoken at conferences including I2SL and ABX Boston. He has participated in AIA’s Design and Resilience Team (DART) focused on minimizing climate and social impacts for the city of Providence.

O’Hara is facade director for the Skins Group, a division of Studio NYL, established to provide full-service facade design specializing in thermal modeling, moisture/condensation analysis, and in-depth detailing. Although Studio NYL is recognized for its skins work with cutting-edge glass and glazing, their team also specializes in digitally fabricated metal skins, GFRC, reinforced polymers, stone, ultra-high performance concrete, terra cotta, and traditional precast.

Studio Leader, Senior Associate Gensler Adkins has led teams as project architect and project manager on a broad range of project types and sizes for such clients as PNC, Walton Street Capital, Grant Thornton, Bank One/JP Morgan Chase, CVS/Caremark, and BP. With Gensler since 2000, she brings significant professional expertise to her role on the Gensler firmwide Technical Committee. Adkins holds a BArch from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

As both an architect and structural engineer, Babbington is constantly trying to balance these “multiple personalities.“ This search for balance fits well

into facade design, which is a constant quest of walking the line between aesthetics & performance, inside & outside, transparency & opacity, structure & thermal, and vision & realization. Partner designLAB architects

In addition to serving as a partner at designLAB architects, Batchelor is director of the MassArt Community/Build Studio, and former president of the Community Design Resource Center of Boston (CDRC). His work focuses on placebased design, most notably in the areas of environmental stewardship and community-building through the arts.

Design Department Manager Permasteelisa

Beaupre has been working in the construction field for over a decade where he has been part of the design team for several high rises in NYC. He earned his B.S in Engineering with concentration in Robotics from l’École de Technologie Supérieure, Montreal.

STEVE COHEN

National Architectural Manager Vitro Cohen offers product support to architects and glazing contractors from New Jersey north to the Canadian border. Prior to joining Vitro in 2015, he spent 20 years in sales and product management at Schott North America.

HANNAH DENTON

Senior Technical Lead Island Exterior Fabricators

Denton is the Senior Technical Lead at Island Exterior Fabricators in Boston after working as an exterior wall consultant for six years. She has a SM degree from MIT in building technology focusing on air infiltration. She has lectured at MIT and presented at conferences including NESEA and the Concrete Sustainability Hub.

JAMES DURHAM

Founder & President Quarra Stone

Durham is the founder and President of Quarra Stone Company, LLC, an international fabricator of complex geometry facades and art pieces. Blending traditional carving with robotic and CNC technology, Quarra annually sponsors digital fabrication research in stone with MIT and University of Michigan graduate architecture students through the Quarra/Matter Design Fellowship. Durham received an honorary Master Carving degree from the German State School for Stone Carving in 2010.

MONTGOMERY FORMAN

Director Island Exterior Fabricators Forman is the Director of the New England office of Island Exterior Fabricators, a custom curtainwall and megapanel fabricator. Day to day, Forman’s work straddles the intersection of architecture, construction, and bespoke product design. He has worked in the field of custom facade solutions for over a decade and has notably consulted on projects with several Pritzer-winning architects both nationally and internationally. He holds a MArch from Harvard University.

PAUL KASSABIAN

Structural Engineer Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Kassabian works on a wide range of structural systems such as buildings, bridges, and sculptures. He develops innovative methods of design and construction using SGH’s in-house materials lab, computational design approaches, and digital fabrication techniques. He taught graduate structural engineering students at MIT for 10 years and currently teaches the Structures I course at Harvard GSD.

SHAWN KELLER

CEO CW Keller

Keller grew up in the fabrication industry, following the growth of his family’s business from its founding in 1974 to his current role of President. His leadership of the company draws upon his experiences as a fabricator on the shop floor, his time as an architectural project manager, and his roles within CW Keller as project manager, engineer, and head of business development. Keller is driven to build a company that exists as the crucial link between concept and making.

SPEAKERS CHARLES S. KLEE

Principal Payette

Klee has led teams on technically challenging projects such as the MIT PDSI Project, the Gary C. Comer Building at Columbia University, and the Harvard Art Museum’s Expansion and Renovation. His strength lies in assembling teams to solve complex problems. In addition to his project work, he leads the firm’s Research Initiative with its Building Science group. In this capacity, he is charged with bringing new ideas and technology to the practice through independent research projects that address both the programmatic and technical performance of buildings.

JACOB KNOWLES

Associate Principal BR+A

Knowles leads the firm’s NET+ sustainability consulting team, focusing on the integration of strategies that reduce environmental footprint while supporting occupant well-being and maximizing return on investment. Over the past decade, he has championed the sustainability agenda for major health care, research, and commercial and institutional projects. Project highlights include achieving LEED Platinum, Zero Net Energy, and receiving a MA DOER High Performance Buildings Grant. Knowles leads BR+A’s Zero Net Energy Initiative.

JUSTIN LEE

Principal Justin Lee Architecture + Design Lee founded his eponymous firm in 2015 after his ten-year collaboration with Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Apart from professional practice, Justin has also served as guest lecturer at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, MIT School of Architecture, Boston Society of Architects, and Universidad Francisco Marroquin Facultad de Arquitectura in Guatemala.

ALEJANDRA MENCHACA

Senior Associate Thornton Tomasetti Menchaca leads the Sustainability Practice for the Boston office. She has a PhD from MIT on the topic of Natural Ventilation, a subject that she has consulted on for over 10 years. She has lectured at MIT and the Harvard GSD.

MATTHEW PIERCE

Associate Principal, Senior Designer Perkins+Will Pierce is an Associate Principal and Senior Designer in the Boston studio of Perkins+Will whose work traverses numerous disciplines. He led the design of the award-winning Living+Learning Commons at Keene State College, the P/A award winning “FloatYard” floating housing proposal, and the design of the Exchange at 100 Federal Street. Pierce is engaged in both the academic and design community as a teacher and guest critic at many institutions. At Perkins+Will, Pierce curates the studio’s weekly “Design Discussion” series and is part of a firmwide network of design experts with a special interest in computational design and digital fabrication.

JOE PRYSE

Senior Architect Elkus Manfredi Architects With over 30 years’ professional experience, Pryse currently focuses on the design of complex technical building projects for higher-education institutions and non-profit organizations. Work includes two student housing buildings at Rutgers University; the Broad Institute, Cambridge; the Van Ness mixed-use complex, Boston; the University of Southern California Master Plan; and a new residential and dining commons at the University of Chicago. Pryse has been a guest lecturer, juror, and studio critic at many design forums and schools of architecture.

Director of Innovation Skanska

Ramirez leads the development and implementation of disruptive and sustaining innovation programs for Skanska. From building a better fish tank for the Miami Science Museum to the use of lasers for construction wayfinding, he has successfully deployed disruptive construction solutions for several organizations including CW Keller and Katerra.

KASPER HØEJMARK RAVN Building Performance Engineer WindowMaster International

Ravn works specifically on all of the firm’s natural ventilation design projects throughout the U.S. He has also worked on multiple projects in Europe. Ravn has a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from

the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), specializing in indoor climate, optimal HVAC design, and energy-efficient constructions.

MARK WALSH

Principal Perkins+Will

Walsh’s 20-plus years’ experience includes all phases of project design and delivery, including establishing project goals and programmatic requirements, performing site analysis, schematic design through construction documents, and the coordination of field and construction services. As Technical Director of the Chicago office, he is responsible for design documentation, coordination with consultants, compliance with authorities, and conformance with client design standards. He also leads the Chicago Technical Management Group, co-chairs the firmwide Technical Design Community, and is a founding member of the Perkins+Will Innovation Incubator.

Recognized for his firestop expertise, Lacroix has over 20 years’ experience on complex high-profile projects around the world. He works closely with inspectors, glazing contractors, and curtain wall consultants during the design, fabrication, construction, and installation of curtain wall projects. Previously, Lacroix was the STI Firestop Regional Manager for the Southeastern U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico.

Kawneer

Cross is based in New England and has a territory of Boston proper, New Hampshire, and Maine. In his role, Cross assists architects with product application, design details, and specification writing. He has been in the New England area all his life and selling architectural aluminum for the past 12 years.
