LUCAS TRYGGESTAD

O’Riley leads a design studio in SOM’s Chicago office, working primarily on healthcare, high-rise, and large-scale mixed-use projects. He specializes in leading design strategies for multi-disciplinary teams working on programmatically complex projects, and is responsible for the execution of the project vision through all phases of design, including the facilitation of user engagement groups, design refinement, and project delivery.

At the Chicago office of SOM, Tryggestad aligns project design concepts with technical solutions that are integral to the design process. With a portfolio that includes projects in the Chicago area and around the world, Tryggestad specializes in designing and realizing technically complex building systems. Interested in the craft of architecture, digital design, and quality project delivery, Tryggestad is involved in projects from conceptual development to execution.

Castillo brings over 30 years’ experience on a variety of building types including Sony Center Berlin, The Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Shanghai New International Expo Centre, and the Tokyo Station Development in Japan. This background allows him a unique perspective on buildings with complex programs and systems as well as a thorough understanding of how a project’s components and details are synthesized within the design concept.

MATTHEW HERMAN

Associate Principal, BuroHappold

Herman leads the firm’s Chicago office with responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the MEP and environmental design teams. His experience covers projects ranging in scale from system component design to master planning primarily in the cultural/civic, commercial, residential, and education sectors. He is also a Research-Based Advisor for Ph.D. Candidates at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

TOM JACOBS

Associate Principal, Krueck + Sexton A passionate advocate for positive change in the built environment, Jacobs practices at the intersection of design, advocacy, and actionability to catalyze outcomes that benefit people, businesses, and the environment. In addition to his role at Krueck + Sexton, he teaches at IIT College of Architecture, Chicago.

PETER LANDON

Principal, Landon Bone Baker

Founder and Principal of Landon Bone Baker, Landon is known for his community-based inner-city planning, development, and design work. He is a champion of “social conscious” and diversity in design, and supports neighborhood revitalization efforts across Chicago.

MARIA PALENCIA

Associate, SOM

At SOM’s Chicago office, Palencia is involved in the development of design strategies for


projects across a variety of typologies, including high-rise and large-scale mixed-use. Her design philosophy centers on creating timeless, performative, and sustainable exterior wall solutions.

LISA RAMMIG

Associate, Eckersley O’Callaghan Rammig leads the practice’s R&D efforts, focusing on innovative glass designs and technology. This work includes the development, testing, and market introduction of new technology in collaboration with technology companies and material fabricators and processors. She is generating a strong link between research and industry through the integration of novel products and technology and development in the building-envelope design of major projects.

KRISTIN ROSEBROUGH

Associate Principal, Perkins+Will

Rosebrough’s architectural experience covers all levels on a variety of building types, including K-12, higher education, civic, and mixed-use projects. She particularly excels at complicated projects that require completely customized approaches to project management, design, and technical development. Her experience extends to leadership roles on the Perkins+Will Project Delivery Board and Technical Management Group. She is also an invested member of community organizations such as Deborah’s Place, All Chicago, and Crew Chicago.

JOACHIM SCHUESSLER

Principal, Goettsch Partners

Schuessler is a principal and senior project designer at Goettsch Partners. He has worked on office, hotel, mixed-use, institutional, and government projects, including many international assignments. He holds a BArch from Leipzig University of Applied Sciences in Germany, and he received his MArch from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

JOE SENNESE

Director, Architectural Development, Vitro Architectural Glass Sennese offers product support and technical information to designers, specifiers, owners/

developers, and installers from Wisconsin west to Kansas. He has over 25 years’ experience in the construction products history and has been employed with Vitro since 2005.

TIM SWANSON

Chief Design Officer, Skender Swanson brings his passion for integrating the design and construction process to the firm’s clients. Previously, at the Chicago office of CannonDesign, he oversaw a team of over 200 architecture, engineering, and planning experts. Swanson is an advocate for smart growth and sustainable development, working with leaders at the intersection of urban planning, public health, and education. He earned a MArch with a specialization in urban development and infill from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

ANN THOMPSON

Senior Vice President, Related Midwest

Thompson is responsible for architectural design, engineering, zoning, and municipal approvals for all of the firm’s projects. Since joining in 1995, she has managed numerous residential and mixed-use developments for the company, including: Park Tower, Residences on Lake Shore Park, and 340 on the Park, the first LEED-Silver residential tower in the Midwest. A licensed architect in Illinois and a member of the AIA, she serves on the board for both the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the Chicago Loop Alliance.​ She received her MArch at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

MARTY TRAINOR

Vice President, Pre-Construction, Ventana Trainor is experienced with hybrid window walls, cable net walls, custom unitized projects, double-skin walls, ornamental metals, structural glass walls, and skylights. At Ventana, Trainor grew the company’s sales backlog to $80 million in 2014. Previously he worked for a nationwide glazing contractor, bringing broad experience in all phases of contract glazing. He has estimated, negotiated, and sold projects up to $33 million, and managed them to completion.

STI Firestop

Curtain Wall & Facade Specialist for the Strategic Accounts Division, Alterman joined STI Firestop in 2015. He has extensive experience in construction and is certified at Level 2 of Firestop Instructional Training (FIT II). He has conducted firestop trainings for the International Firestop Council and STI to architects, engineers, consultants, code officials, inspectors, and all types of trades.

JEFFERY GLICK

Halio North America, LLC Glick speaks regularly on how technologies that optimize daylighting are gaining importance in commercial architecture. Glick is currently charged with building and leading Halio North America’s sales team. The company is a joint venture between Kinestral Technologies, Inc., developer and manufacturer of Halio smart-tinting glass, and AGC, Inc., the world’s largest glass manufacturer.

JOHN PENTA

Fiandre

A master ceramic tile and stone mechanic/fabricator with 52 years’ installation experience and 38 years’ sales senior executive experience, Penta has worked on many high-profile porcelain tile ventilated facade systems (VFS) in Italy, Canada, and the U.S. He oversaw the first ceramic tile factory to produce porcelain tile VFS in the U.S. As the exclusive porcelain tile ventilated facade consultant at Fiandre, he is responsible for technical support, sales training, project specification, and education.

Anderson is a technical leader for UL CLEB’s Building Envelope Performance Test Lab in thermal, acoustical, and simulation areas. He has 24 years’ experience in fenestration testing, accreditation, and certification with his most recent position at National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). Anderson is a NFRC-certified simulator and chairs ASTM task groups. He has served in the U.S. Army and received his BSc in engineering from St. Cloud State University, Minnesota.

YUGENE CHA

Associate Principal, Krueck + Sexton With a focus on human nature and a keen understanding of complex geometry, Cha has expanded Krueck + Sexton’s already rich architectural vocabulary. He was instrumental in the design and realization of projects such as the Spertus Institute of Jewish Learning and Leadership, 1100 First Street Office Building, The Franklin Renovation, and the FBI South Florida Headquarters. Cha is project architect for 130 North Franklin High-Rise in Chicago.

WILLIAM EMMICK

Principal, Studio Gang

Emmick has extensive experience leading large-scale projects and overseeing diverse teams of consultants and agencies. He is responsible for the execution and operational management of each project within Studio Gang and has played a significant role in the delivery of complex cultural, public, and urban design projects. He has a BArch from the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he graduated with high honors and received the Henry Adams Award.

MARIO D. GONÇALVES

Principal, UL CLEB

An engineer and senior buildingenvelope consultant, Gonçalves is also a principal and global business leader for UL CLEB building science, president of the Quebec Building Envelope Council (QBEC), and a director of the National Building Envelope Council of Canada (NBEC). His practice includes assisting architects and construction professionals with the design and detailing of building envelopes as well as the coordination of professional services relating to the investigation and testing of building envelopes.

ALLOY KEMP

Associate Principal, Thornton Tomasetti As a licensed architect and trained engineer, Kemp has extensive experience in the design and engineering of ETFE and other facade systems. At Thornton Tomasetti, she has been integral to large- and small-scale ETFE projects and has developed best-practice guidelines for ETFE systems. Kemp has taught at Northwestern University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

EDWARD PECK

Principal, BatesForum

Peck is a recognized leader in emerging architectural technologies and innovative building skins. Previously, Peck practiced as a facade consultant and was instrumental in the design and engineering of some of the most recognizable building skins in the world. Today, he choreographs a collaborative design process with his team to create intelligent and sustainable solutions for the built environment.

SILVIA PRANDELLI

Technical Director, Walter P Moore

Prandelli specializes in complex geometry skins and the research of alternative materials for enhanced performance. Her project experience ranges from residential, high-rise, and commercial developments to cultural, civic, and public-use projects in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. She holds a Master’s Degree in building engineering from the Politecnico di Milano.

AMY PRESTON

Senior Director, Tishman Speyer

Preston leads a team of project managers to develop and implement capital and tenant improvements for 8 million square feet in the Chicago Business District. Projects include complex redevelopments of existing assets and land development for new construction. Previously, she was a senior project manager for CB Richard Ellis, overseeing projects from large-scale interior build outs to ground-up development. She also led the interior architecture department for Ross Barney Architecture. Preston holds a business and applied science degree from Arizona State University.

SANJEEV TANKHA

Principal, Walter P Moore

Tankha leads the enclosure engineering practice. His expertise lies in developing elegant facade design solutions that balance structure, sustainability, and comfort. His experience covers aviation, sports, civic, commercial, transportation, and hospitality. Tankha is a Registered Architect in California as well as a LEED accredited professional.

MARC ZIMMER

President, Frener & Reifer

Zimmer is responsible for business development and operations. Utilizing a background that combines structural and earthquake engineering with business, he oversees the execution of landmark facade projects across North America, focusing on structural glass applications, unitized facades, and filigree steel-glass constructions. He has lectured at Harvard Graduate School of Design and other leading universities and conferences.
