PROGRAM The Facades+ conference series is a dynamic innovation in building skins—bridging the profession, industry, academia, building operations, and ownership. We’ve condensed the best of the Facades+ two-day event into an intensive morning forum with a strong local focus—Facades+AM—this time specific to the opportunities and challenges in Washington D.C. The rapidly developing field of high-performance facades has emerged as essential to building integration, and central to the realization of resilient buildings and a sustainable built environment. The building envelope combines attributes of aesthetics and performance like nothing else in architecture. Washington D.C. has its own special facade conditions and requirements, including addressing security concerns, working within the city’s height limit, and representing institutions and cultural values through architectural form. We invite you to join the dynamic exchange of ideas as we bring this unique event to the nation’s capital for the first time.

INDUSTRY SPONSORS AIA|DC advances the value of architecture for our members, our profession, and our community. Founded in 1887, the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects serves the Nation’s Capital, functioning as both the “local” and “state” component of the AIA for the District of Columbia. The Chapter was intimately involved in the design and planning of Washington, and continues to play an active role in city development today. The District Architecture Center (DAC), in the heart of DC’s bustling Penn Quarter District, is where architecture meets the city. If you have an interest in architecture and want to experience and enjoy it more, DAC is the place for you. The District Architecture Center was designed by Hickok Cole Architects and built by SIGAL Construction Corporation. In addition to serving as the headquarters of the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC) and its partner organization, the Washington Architectural Foundation (WAF), DAC is where members of the public—both adults and children—can see exhibits and attend other events about architecture and architects in the DC area and around the world.
