DESIGN A HIGHPERFORMANCE FACADE JUNE 25, 2020
UP TO 6 CEUs FACADESPLUS.COM @FACADESPLUS #FACADESPLUSAM
WELCOME TO FACADES+ ONLINE ABOUT FACADES+ ONLINE We’re taking Facades+ online to virtually connect some of the world’s most productive building professionals. Much like the national event series we have developed over the past decade, the conference will comprise panels, keynote addresses, and afternoon workshops, as well as networking breaks for both our attendees and sponsors. Facade design always has to strike the right balance between aesthetics and technical detailing—no easy feat. Indeed, architects and designers are expected to satisfy the demands of the client while also meeting performance standards and local building regulations. Facades+ panelists will talk through their process by highlighting exemplary case studies, innovative materials, and strategies for overcoming facade challenges. For sponsorship info contact: ddarling@archpaper.com.

SYMPOSIUM PRESENTERS JEFFRY ABRAMSON Senior Associate | Payette Jeffrey Abramson, AIA, LEED AP, has vast knowledge in the design, analysis and detailing of highly complex envelope systems. His project experience includes double skin façades, unitized and stick built curtain wall, and sloped glazing systems for institutional clients such as the Harvard Art Museums, Amherst College and University of Massachusetts Medical School. Abramson is an instrumental contributor to Payette’s research work on thermal bridging and has presented the firm’s ongoing work both locally and at national conferences.
WILL BABBINGTON Principal, Facade Design Director | Studio NYL Babbington is Principal & Facade Design Director at Studio NYL. As both an architect and structural engineer, Will is constantly trying to balance these “multiple personalities“. This search for balance fits well into facade design, which is a constant quest of walking the line between aesthetics & performance, inside & outside, transparency & opacity, structure & thermal, and vision & realization.
PAM CAMPBELL Partner | COOKFOX Architects Pam Campbell is a Partner at COOKFOX and joined the studio in 2003. Pam was on the design team for One Bryant Park, the first LEED Platinum skyscraper, and she led the adjoining Stephen Sondheim Theatre project. Her work includes Live Work Home, a prototype LEED Platinum home; 150 Charles Street, known for its groundbreaking integration of garden spaces; and Neeson Cripps Academy, a school in Phnom Penh that serves the city’s most poverty stricken children. Currently, Pam is working on new academic building for the Marymount School.
ANDREA LOVE Principal, Director of Building Science | Payette Love works across all projects to improve building performance. She was the Principal Investigator for the AIA Upjohn Grant on thermal bridging, and is a lecturer at the MIT School of Architecture and Planning. Love is a licensed architect with a BArch
from Carnegie Mellon, a Master’s degree in Building Technology from MIT, and a recipient of the TuckerVoss Award. She is a member of the COTE Advisory Group, and chairs the 2030 Working Group.
BUNGANE MEHLOMAKLU Managing Principal | Integral Group Bungane brings over 10 years of consulting engineering experience with an emphasis on integrated project delivery, building information modeling, project development and multidisciplinary team leadership. His passion for sustainable buildings encompasses the entire building design and operation. He works with architects and owners to identify opportunities that lie outside the scope of traditional MEP services. He draws on his experience working with passive strategies such as natural ventilation, day lighting, plug load reductions and solar control to drive down loads and minimize the impact of active systems.
CHRIS O’HARA Founding Principal | Studio NYL O’Hara is facade director for the Skins Group, a division of Studio NYL, established to provide full service facade design specializing in thermal modeling, moisture/condensation analysis, and in-depth detailing. Although Studio NYL is recognized for its skins work with cutting-edge glass and glazing, their team also specializes in digitally fabricated metal skins, GFRC, reinforced polymers, stone, ultra high performance concrete, terra cotta, and traditional precast. O’Hara is currently working on multiple projects in the Boston area.
BRADFORD J. PRESTBO Director of Technical Resources, Associate Principal | Sasaki Prestbo has over 19 years’ experience working on some of the nation’s most prestigious campuses. A problem-solver with great technical skill, he has been part of several award-winning project teams. As chair of Sasaki’s Technical Resource Group, he shares his knowledge of design and detailing with the firm to promote better practices in architecture. Prestbo co-founded BSA’s MakeTANK Committee and is involved in the Construction Specifier’s Institute. He frequently participates as a design critic at area colleges and universities, and lectures on detailing and bringing maker culture into the design process.
