Thursday Symposium MORNING KEYNOTE DORIANA FUKSAS FOUNDING PRINCIPAL FUKSAS

Doriana Mandrelli Fuksas has worked with Massimiliano Fuksas since 1985, serving as director in charge of Fuksas Design since 1997. Awards and recognition include: Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française; Award for Excellence Europe ULI (Urban Land Institute); Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française; and the Idea-Tops Awards, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport-T3, awarded Best Transportation Space in Shenzhen, China. She curated four “Special Projects” at the “VII Mostra Internazionale di Architettura di Venezia” Less Aesthetics, More Ethics in 2000: Jean Prouvè, Jean Maneval, the Peace Pavilion and Architecture of Spaces, and the Contemporary Art section. A native of Rome, she graduated in History of Modern and Contemporary Architecture at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and holds a degree in Architecture from ESA, École Spéciale d’Architecture, Paris.

MASSIMILIANO FUKSAS FOUNDING PRINCIPAL FUKSAS

Since the ‘80s, the Fuksas eponynous firm has been one of the protagonists of the contemporary architectural scene. From 1994 to 1997, Fuksas was a member of the Planning Commissions in Berlin and Salzburg. From 1998 to 2000, he directed the “VII Mostra Internazionale di Architettura di Venezia” Less Aesthetics, More Ethics. Awards and recognitions include: “Vitruvio International a la Trayectoria” for his professional career; the Grand Prix National d’Architecture Française; Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la République Française; Honorary Fellowship of the AIA–American Institute of Architects, Washington, DC; Honorary Fellowship of the RIBA–Royal Institute of British Architects; Cavaliere di Gran Croce della Repubblica Italiana; the Légion d’Honneur; the Medal of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Italy; the Global Lithuanian Award, Art and Culture category. He has been a visiting professor at Columbia University, the École Spéciale d’Architecture, the Akademie der BildendenKünste, and the Staatliche Akademie der BildendenKünste.

FOUNDING PRINCIPAL TOSHIKO MORI ARCHITECT

Mori, FAIA is the Robert P. Hubbard Professor in the Practice of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Recent work from her eponymous firm includes: master plans for the Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch and the Buffalo Botanical Gardens; Thread, a cultural center and artists’ residences, Senegal; and Fass School and Teachers’ Residence, Senegal. International exhibitions of projects include: the 2012, 2014, 2018 Venice Architecture Biennales. Awards include: the Academy Award in Architecture, from the American Academy of Arts and Letters; the AIA New York Chapter Medal of Honor; the 2016 ACSA Tau Sigma Delta National Honor Society Gold Medal, the 2018 Maine in America Award, the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education; she will receive the OMI Arts Leadership Award in 2019. Mori is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, serves on the board of directors for Dassault Systèmes, and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Cities and Urbanization.

NYC CONFERENCE CO-CHAIR JUERGEN RIEHM FOUNDING PRINCIPAL 1100 ARCHITECTS

Since launching the New York- and Frankfurt-based architecture firm in 1983, Riehm has completed many award-winning buildings, including: the Queens Central Library, Children’s Library Discovery Center, Riverside Health Center, multiple projects with NYC Parks, and arts and residential work. He received a Diploma in Architecture from FH Rheinland-Pfalz in 1977 and his Post-Graduate Architecture Degree from the Städelschule Academy of Fine Arts in 1982, where he serves on the alumni foundation’s advisory board. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA), a member of Germany’s Chamber of Architects in the State of Hessen, and a member of the Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA).

SYMPOSIUM PRESENTERS AMBROSE ALIAGA-KELLY TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, PRINCIPAL GENSLER

Aliaga-Kelly is recognized for his knowledge of Manhattan’s commercial office buildings and his ability to evaluate and optimize new and existing buildings with tenants in mind, including Related/Oxford Properties’ Hudson Yards development, the renovation of the Ford Foundation Building, and the new campus for the Clark Art Institute, Massachusetts. Aliaga-Kelly participated in the review of IBC building codes for New York and is on the advisory board for the High School for Construction Trades, Engineering and Architecture. He also serves on the AIA New York City Codes Committee. He holds a BArch from University College Dublin.

ATTILA ARIAN PRESIDENT SCHÜCO

Arian has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. Prior to joining Schüco USA in 2013, he served as CEO of several German design-build contractors and was President of Seele’s New York–based US operation. Under Arian, Seele grew to become a recognized facade contractor in the US with a portfolio including: Apple Cube, Institute of Peace in Washington, DC, Miami Art Museum, Kimball Art Museum, and The Broad Museum. Arian has a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering and Business Adminstration from the Engineering School Technische Universitaet Darmstadt.

MADELINE BURKE-VIGELAND PRINCIPAL GENSLER

Burke-Vigeland was Project Director for the renovation of the iconic Ford Foundation, and is the Principal-in-Charge of the expansion project for the Museum of Modern Art and served in a similar capacity for the Vagelos Graduate and Medical Education Center at Columbia University and the New Museum, New York. She has worked closely with the New York Public Library, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and the Robin Hood Foundation. She serves as Chair of the Dean’s Council of the University of Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning and has lectured at Pratt, Columbia, NYU, and Harvard. She holds a BArch from Pratt Institute.

Chaaya joined RPBW–Paris in 1987, becoming Partner in 1997, in charge of many projects including The Manhattanville New Columbia University Campus. Nominated by USEK as patron of the class of young architects 2017, he is also an honorary member of the Lebanese Green Buildings Council. Chaaya has lectured in France, Italy, Denmark, Lebanon, and the US. He studied architecture at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK)-Lebanon.

ARCHITECTURAL CONSULTANT NEOLITH

Conrad is an accredited presenter for the OAA on Rainscreen Education, focusing on ventilated facade products and systems. From 2006 to 2010 he was a designer for Cornerstone Architecture, gaining significant experience and knowledge in rainscreen building science and project tendering. From 2010 to 2015, as a Business Development Representative at Ontario Panelization, he worked with an array of rainscreen products and systems from metal panels, to exotic stones, to building integrated photovoltaics and later on sintered surfaces for projects throughout North America.

FOUNDING PRINCIPAL HEINTGES CONSULTING ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERS Heintges, FAIA, is an internationally recognized authority on the design and implementation of the curtain wall. He has consulted on over 150 million square feet of facades on projects throughout the US and 24 other countries. Recent projects include: the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, 4 WTC, and the renovation of facades at the United Nations Headquarters and University of Pennsylvania Richards Medical Research Laboratory. Heintges is also an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Columbia University’s GSAPP.

MANAGING PARTNER, CEO TRANSSOLAR Holst joined Transsolar in 1996, directing its Software Development Department, and he established the Munich office in 2003. He directed the team for Bangkok Airport, the company´s first international large-scale project. He was the responsible partner for the Linked Hybrid Complex in Beijing; the Wyly Theatre, Dallas, TX; the ADAC HQ and the Siemens HQ, Munich; and the New Terminal, Calgary. Current projects include: the Elbtower, Hamburg, and the Axel Springer Campus, Berlin. He is Visiting Professor KlimaEngineering at the chair for Experimental Architecture at the University of Innsbruck and lectures on sustainable design at other universities and international conferences.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR ATELIER 10 Jones works to advance and expand the technical proficiency and research acumen of the firm’s practice. He provides environmental and LEED consulting services to a portfolio of ultra-high-performance projects with particular experience managing LEED, Estidama, and Living Building Challenge green building certifications. Recent projects include: the LEED Platinum targeted and Living Building Challenge targeted Environmental Center at Frick Park, the LEED Platinum Dartmouth Life Science Center, Boston University’s Admissions Reception Center, and the renewals of selected Harvard University River Houses. Jones is a LEED Fellow and teaches a systems integration course at Yale School of Architecture.

DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABLE DESIGN WALTER P MOORE Trained and experienced as a structural engineer, Kestner provides guidance and resourcing to the entire firm, to ensure all designs incorporate industry-leading expertise in sustainable strategies. Founding chair of the Sustainability Committee of the ASCE’s Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), he is an acknowledged thought leader in the advancement of sustainable structural solutions. Kestner publishes and lectures on topics ranging from durability and deconstructability to salvaged structural steel and life cycle analysis. A member of the LEED Materials and Resources Technical Advisory Group of the US Green Building Council, he helps guide the technical criteria of the LEED rating system.

PAIMAAN LODHI

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF POLICY AND PLANNING REAL ESTATE BOARD OF NEW YORK Lodhi works to advance advocacy efforts for the real estate industry on policy-related issues such as land use, housing, economic development, construction, sustainability, and tax policy. Prior to REBNY, he spent several years in government, including serving as the District Manager for Community Board 10 in Harlem. Previous to that, Lodhi served as an urban planner for the Manhattan Borough President’s Office and was a policy analyst at The Center for Urban Policy Research.

WILLIAM MENKING

EDITOR IN CHIEF THE ARCHITECT’S NEWSPAPER Founder and editor-in-chief of The Architect’s Newspaper, Menking has curated and written catalogues for exhibitions including: Archigram: Experimental Architecture 1961-1974, Superstudio Life Without Objects, and The Vienna Model: Housing for the 21st Century. In 2008 he was US Commissioner of “Into the Open: Positioning Practice at The Venice Biennale.” He co-authored Four Conversations on the Architecture of Discourse and Architecture on Display. His essay “Mr. Mumford’s Neighborhood” appears in the book Forty Ways To Think About Architecture (Routledge). His writings have appeared in The Society of Architectural Historians, Journal of Architectural Education, Monocle, and Perspecta. He was Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley (2011) and is Professor of Architecture at Pratt Institute.

SUSANNE MILNE PRINCIPAL 1100 ARCHITECT

Milne has led her project teams on the design and construction of numerous internationally acclaimed and culturally significant buildings ranging in size from 5,500 to 2,000,000 square feet, including: the design of a mixed-use residential project in Frankfurt balancing contemporary design with sensitivity towards adjacent historic structures, as well as many high-end residential and large-scale office projects in New York. She is a member of the Danish Association of Architects.

ROBERT MATTHEW NOBLETT PARTNER BEHNISCH ARCHITEKTEN

Noblett has worked in various American practices, including Rafael Viñoly Architects, where he served as project manager for projects in Boston, California, Las Vegas, and Chicago. In 2007, he joined Behnisch Architekten, Boston, and has been serving as Partner in Charge since 2009. He has lectured at universities in Bos-

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS YKK AP Schohan develops marketing and promotion strategies while also leading research efforts on emerging markets and trends, with an emphasis on driving industry product evolution and innovation. He brings over 25 years’ experience in the retail, construction, home improvement ,and consumer products industries. Previously, he served as V.P. of QEP, a specialty tools and flooring products manufacturing, marketing, and distribution company, and worked with DOW Chemical Company for over 14 years.

NADER TEHRANI

DEAN OF COOPER UNION SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE Tehrani is Dean of the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union and Principal at NADAAA, a practice dedicated to the advancement of design innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an intensive dialogue with the construction industry. His work has been recognized with the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in Architecture, the US Artists Fellowship in Architecture and Design, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Architecture, and 18 Progressive Architecture Awards.

Since 2005, Tizn has led the Gartner project team from early design development through final completion. Previously, he practiced architecture and holds a Master’s of Science degree of Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University.

MARCELO VELEZ

VICE PRESIDENT, MANHATTANVILLE DEVELOPMENT AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY Velez serves as the point person on all aspects of development, design, and construction of the University’s 6.8-million-square-foot Manhattanville in West Harlem campus expansion. The campus has won numerous awards, including LEED Platinum certification for the its environmentally sustainable design and overall project plan. Over the years, Velez has managed, supervised, or presided over $2 billion worth of capital construction. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University, an MBA from Columbia, and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New York. He serves on the Board of Directors for the ACE Mentorship Program New York, and as Vice Chair of the Greater New York Construction User Council.

PRESIDENT FRENER & REIFER AMERICA Zimmer is responsible for business development and operations. Utilizing a background combining structural and earthquake engineering with business, he oversees the execution of landmark facade projects across North America, focusing on structural glass applications, unitized facades, and filigree steel-glass constructions. He has lectured at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and other leading universities and conferences.

During his studies, he worked for one of Permasteelisa’s Italian companies, in 1991 becoming a Director and Partner. In 1998, he joined the American office overseeing the Sales and Estimating Division with respect to cladding and curtain-wall for monumental buildings. In 2008, he became General Manager and Sr. Vice President to the Miami office, where he also oversees Sales and Estimating for the Southern US and Central and South America. Since 2017, he also serves as Lead Concept Designer and from June 2018 as Business Development Manager of the East Coast.

FOUNDER, CEO BRANCH TECHNOLOGY Boyd practiced as an architect for 15 years prior to founding Branch. His fascination with natural beauty and amazing structures led to the initiation of a new technology, The Cellular Fabrication (C-FAB™) method, using freeform 3D printing combined with conventional materials to robotically prefabricate architectural assemblies. Branch has become a global leader in large-scale 3D printing, producing the largest 3D-printed pavilions in the world in 2016, and the largest 3D-printed spans in 2018. The award-winning firm works with the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and corporate partnerships to further develop the technology to produce load-bearing composite walls for homes and commercial facades.

Cerone leads SHoP’s Virtual Design and Construction teams. Recognized internationally as a leader in exploring the future uses of technology in design and construction, he represents SHoP at the Design Futures Council, as well as leading work with Dassault Systèmes as part of a transdisciplinary group that includes Boeing and Tesla. His work at SHoP includes a lead role in developing the technologies behind the success of the Barclays Center, the VDC-driven delivery of the Botswana Innovation Hub, and ongoing technology and exhibitions project at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. Since joining the firm in 2005. Chang has served as the Design Project Manager and Senior Project Designer for diverse projects. His experience includes: multi-family residential, hospitality, commercial, mixed-use buildings, large public buildings, and urban master plans. Chang is a founding member of REACH, Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects’ computational design group, which encompasses research, staff education, and development of a distributed platform for integrating innovation into the design process. CO-FOUNDER, COVE.TOOL CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, PATTERN R+D Chopson oversees product development and strategy for cove.tool as it provides a web-based software for cost optimization vs. energy performance. Graduating in 2014 with a Master’s in High Performance Buildings from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Chopson focuses on architecture, process integration, and computational design. He is a licensed architect with over a decade’s experience in both architecture and mechanical engineering firms.

Christoforetti is an architectural and urban designer. She earned a MArch with Distinction from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where she received the AIA Henry Adams Medal. Since joining Grimshaw in 2009, Cook has worked on a wide range of projects including: the Croton Water Filtration Plant, the Bronx; Project Architect for the Duke Brodhead Center for Campus Life, Duke University; and the firm’s Middle East practice, where he led a bus transportation plan for Doha, Qatar, and helped open the Dubai, UAE, office in 2017. She manages several high‐rise projects in New York City and also directs daily operations of the firm. Currently leading the Energy division, she started Surface Design Architects’ Site Monitoring division, and she has also developed tools for analyzing the thermal performance of exterior walls. Her career began at Gehry Partners where she advanced acoustical isolation solutions and developed energy‐use models for New World Symphony, and researched novel material and manufacturing techniques for the Eisenhower Memorial.

Gillespie focuses on the design, fabrication, and use of parametric software in the development of custom exterior wall systems and specialty structures. He is experienced in all phases of project delivery, having worked as both a technical facade designer and subsequently a facade consultant over the past decade. He is a Registered Architect in the State of New York, a LEED Accredited Professional, and has been an invited architectural critic at Rice University, the University of Houston, and The Cooper Union.

ROSS GOLDSWORTHY ASSOCIATE GRIMSHAW ARCHITECTS

Since rejoining Grimshaw in 2017, Goldsworthy has been working on the Sustainability Pavilion for Expo 2020 Dubai and the JFK Airport redevelopment. Previously, he was on the design team for the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority Headquarters, Doha. His work spans a variety of sectors, including working with SOM in developing the design and overseeing the construction for a new Public Safety Answer Center in the Bronx, NY. While in Australia, he worked on a number of education and research projects with John Wardle Architects, including offices and research spaces for the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Brisbane. Goldsworthy holds a BArch from the University of South Australia and is an Accredited Professional of the Green Building Council.

JOHN GULLIFORD SENIOR ASSOCIATE SHOP ARCHITECTS

Gulliford specializes in systems design and development leveraging geometric rationalization and automation as early as concept design through fabrication deliverables. He worked on a dynamic team responsible for facade fabrication pertaining to the curtain wall system and weather steel components of the latticework design for the Barclays Center. Gulliford received his BArch from Pratt Institute and a Master of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. Prior to SHoP, he was a research assistant under Dr. Haresh Lalvani exploring advanced fabrication techniques sponsored by an industry partner.

Harris has an extensive track record in business development, marketing, communications, and sales. Previously, he founded four industry-leading firms including two information technology firms, a real estate development firm, and a state-chartered community bank. Two of these four companies he sold to publicly traded corporations. Over the years he has served on the board of directors for non-profit organizations including: the Economic Development Council of Jefferson County, the Jefferson County Historical Society (both Washington State), and Centrum.

DISTRICT SALES MANAGER CENTRIA Hilias has served as an exterior envelope manufacturing representative in NYC for over 15 years. At CENTRIA he oversees sales projects from bidding through construction. Through his work with the NYC design community and the CENTRIA dealer network, he provides design solutions on some of the city’s highest profile projects, including: the Retail Podium at Hudson Yards, 50 Times Square, 25 Park Row, and the East Harlem Educational Center.

BENTON JOHNSON

SENIOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER SOM Johnson has worked on a range of domestic and international projects, including: supertall buildings, mixed-use developments, convention centers, hospitals, and single-family homes. In addition to his work on the Timber Tower Research Project, Johnson was part of the collaborative team with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop AMIE 1.0, a 3D-printed demonstration building.

DIRECTOR OF STRATEGIC ACCOUNTS STI FIRESTOP Recognized for his firestop expertise, Lacroix has over 20 years’ experience on complex high-profile projects around the world. He works closely with inspectors, glazing contractors, and curtain wall consultants during the design, fabrication, construction, and installation of curtain wall projects. His wealth of knowledge and experience ensures the project stays on budget and gets done right the first time. Previously, Lacroix was the STI Firestop Regional Manager for the Southeastern US, Latin America, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico.

Since joining the firm in 1996, Lee has contributed to many projects and competitions, including: the Casablanca Finance City Tower in Casablanca, Morocco, and the US Land Port of Entry at Alexandria Bay, NY. He currently leads the work for the University of South Florida Honors College and the Creative City Campus expansion project for the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD.) Previously, he was the Project Principal for the LEED Platinum Net Zero Bloomberg Center, the academic hub of the new Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island, and Cornell University’s Bill and Melinda Gates Hall.

TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE ACCSYS GROUP With extensive experience in project management, Mangini has worked on large-scale projects in Italy, such as Citylife Zaha Hadid Residential Milan, New Doha Airport Lounges for Qatar Airways, as well as the United Kingdom and the Middle East. In the US market, Mangini currently focuses on mega towers such as One Vanderbilt and 66 Hudson, serving as Project Executive. He began his career with a curtain wall company in multiple roles—design, procurement, production, and site supervision.

PALLAVI MANTHA SENIOR CONSULTANT ARUP

Pallavi works on diverse projects including high-performance buildings, sustainable infrastructure, and masterplans. Her project experience includes: portfolio energy management, resource and carbon planning at the city and community level, low and net-zero energy buildings, and health and well-being. Recent projects: an existing commercial building aiming for net-zero energy, a mixed-use community aiming to be carbon neutral, and an interactive portfolio tool to help New York City agencies meet the 35×25 emissions mandate.

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING SALES ZAHNER Martin worked as a 3D model designer in the semiconductor industry before finding a home in architectural metals. Nandi brings over 15 years’ experience with museums, academic sciences and engineering buildings, executive dormitories, research laboratories, and bridges. He has spoken at numerous conferences, including I2SL and ABX Boston. Normandeau leads SGH’s Building Enclosure Commissioning practice. His experience includes: designing, investigating, and rehabilitating building enclosure systems for both new and existing buildings. He specializes in designing building enclosure systems, including: exterior walls, fenestration, roofing, and waterproofing systems. Normandeau has published papers on topics such as vegetative roofing and energy performance, high-performance building enclosure design, roofing failures, and below-grade waterproofing, and has lectured at local and national conferences.

SENIOR PRINCIPAL SIMPSON GUMPERTZ & HEGER O’Brien specializes in building science and building enclosure performance, including computer simulation of heat, air, and moisture migration issues. Heading up SGH’s Building Technology group in the New York office, he has investigated and designed repairs for a variety of building types, from condominiums to art museums, and has published papers on topics including: moisture migration in masonry wall systems and condensation resistance of windows and curtain walls.

O’Hara is facade director for the Skins Group, a division of Studio NYL, specializing in thermal modeling, moisture/condensation analysis, and in-depth detailing. Although recognized for its skins work with cutting-edge glass and glazing, the team also specializes in digitally fabricated metal skins, GFRC, reinforced polymers, stone, ultra-high performance concrete, terra cotta, and traditional precast. O’Hara is currently working on multiple projects in the Boston area.

He has over 25 years’ glass industry marketing and technical experience at the float glass, interlayer, specialty fabricator, and processing levels.

SENIOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT SEDAK Pannwitz has over 30 years’ experience in facade design and engineering. Previously, he worked for Seele, the German facade contractor. He is a consultant to architects, selling specialty glass products serving North America. His extensive experience supports facade contractors on each phase of projects requiring oversized, complicated glass solutions. He holds a Dipl. Ing./Master in Mechanical Engineering from Technical University “Otto Von Guericke” in Magdeburg, Germany.

BLAIR PAYSON ARCHITECT OLSON KUNDIG

Payson has worked on projects including: the Century Project for the Space Needle, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center, [storefront], OK, and many others across North America. From large cultural projects to temporary design interventions, Payson distills large, complex projects into distinct culminating moments. He credits this appreciation of key design details to his formative years working under Renzo Piano in Paris.

Prestbo has over 19 years’ experience working on some of the nation’s most prestigious campuses. A problem-solver with great technical skill, he has been part of several award-winning project teams. As chair of Sasaki’s Technical Resource Group, he shares his knowledge of design and detailing with the rest of the firm to promote better practices in architecture.

STEVEN RAINVILLE PRINCIPAL OLSON KUNDIG

As director of the firm’s R&D initiatives, Rainville helps implement progressive research ideas, focusing on building energy use and the possibilities of technology and craft. Current explorations include: a massive, ultra-high efficiency window system; continued research on kinetic design elements; and a “drawing-less” model-based delivery process for a remote cabin. ARCHITECTURAL MANAGER SHERWIN-WILLIAMS COIL & EXTRUSION COATINGS Stern is the Architectural Manager, East Coast, for Sherwin-Williams Coil & Extrusion Coatings (formerly Valspar), the largest global coatings company. Throughout her 20+ year career, Stern has experience in all facets of coatings and specializes in educating and assisting architects with finishing options for factory-applied baked-on coatings for monumental projects globally, as well as project management.

DIRECTOR OF SALES & MARKETING RESAWN TIMBER CO. Stevens has been a wood enthusiast for his entire life. Since January 2012, he has served as Director of Sales & Marketing for reSAWN, which provides shou sugi ban, new, and reclaimed wood materials for architectural specifications for both exterior and interior applications. Previously, he served as Certified Sustainable Building Advisor at the Sustainable Building Advisor Institute. He holds a BSA, Finance and Marketing, from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.

DIRECTOR OF ENCLOSURE DESIGN MORPHOSIS Su provides oversight with the detail design and technical resolution of complex enclosure systems. He brings extensive experience in both architectural design practices and facades-specific consultant teams for all phases of design and construction. His recent focus includes: the Orange County Museum of Art, Costa Mesa, CA; the new US Embassy Campus, Beirut, Lebanon; and the Kolon One and Only Tower, Seoul, Korea.

SENIOR STAFF SIMPSON GUMPERTZ & HEGER Sujka specializes in new design, new construction, and construction administration services. He is also experienced in projects involving investigations and renovations of building enclosure systems. He participates in the SGH Roofing and Waterproofing Practice Area and the Metro NY Chapter of RCI, Inc.

TIM SVARCZKOPF

TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE ACCSYS GROUP

Svarczkopf has spent his entire career at the intersection of efficient resource use and building materials. He began at Weyerhaeuser in 1994. For the next 16 years, he promoted engineered wood at the distribution, retail, and manufacturer levels. In 2012 he joined Eastman Chemical. They were introducing a new decking product using a process called acetylation. This process made a durable and stable board that was also sustainable and non-toxic. In 2014, Accsys Technologies hired Svarczkopf to represent Accoya on the East Coast.

Since 2001, Thompson has worked in the field of specialty structural/ enclosure engineering in North America and worldwide, focusing on design projects involving innovative material use and complex geometry in close coordination with architects and clients. For Thompson the most exciting part of projects is the collaboration of the various parties on the team. The exchanging of ideas, philosophies, and solutions is the lifeblood of innovation and successful development. As a team leader and senior project manager, he guides multidisciplinary teams through critical decisions, anticipating challenges and emphasizing communications to keep work on track.

JAY VALGORA FOUNDER STUDIO V

Valgora has 30 years’ experience in multiple disciplines including: architecture, urban design, and industrial design. His work has received numerous awards and has been featured in numerous publications including: The New York Times, The Architect’s Newspaper, and Crain’s New York. Born in Buffalo where he was inspired to become an architect by the grain elevators and steel mills, Valgora lived and practiced in London, Boston, San Francisco, and Toronto, and considers these great cities as practice for his eventual embrace of New York City. He has a MArch from Harvard University, a BArch from Cornell University, and was a Fulbright Fellow. The Studio’s work encompasses reimagining New York City’s waterfront in all five boroughs. The exploration of radical structures and fabrication includes: the Accoya wood canopy in Helena Lobby, Yonkers Raceway; MOBI Pavilion; Morimoto Asia.

ERIK VERBOON MANAGING DIRECTOR WALTER P MOORE

Trained in architecture and engineering, Verboon brings a deep global experience with a focus on the design of complex and high-performance building envelopes for a wide range of building types—old and new, academic, commercial, and cultural. His experience encompasses a wide variety of facade applications including: high-performance, double-skin facades; geometrically complex composite façades; and custom-unitized enclosures for both new buildings and existing building retrofits and additions. His experience in digital design, geometric rationalization, and environmental analysis allows him to bring the highest value to his clients while also helping designers deliver projects to the highest level of design sophistication while maximizing performance and minimizing cost. He also teaches enclosure design at a number of leading universities.

SENIOR STAFF II SIMPSON GUMPERTZ & HEGER Wowk joined Simpson Gumpertz & Heger in 2012. He works on projects involving new designs, investigations, and renovations to building enclosure systems. A Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt, he holds a MDesS, Technology, from Harvard University and a BArch from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
