CONFERENCE CO-CHAIR BLAIR PAYSON Principal, Olson Kundig

Payson joined Olson Kundig in 2004 where his work includes the Century Project for the Space Needle, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center [storefront], Okla., and many others across North America. From large cultural projects to temporary design interventions, Payson distills large, complex projects into distinct culminating moments. He credits this appreciation of key design details to his formative years working under Renzo Piano in Paris.

SPEAKERS WILLIAM CARAMELLA

Director of Integrated Design, Katerra

Caramella works closely with his team to develop processes, technology, and automation to streamline project delivery. This role spans all areas of the company, supporting the integration of architecture, engineering, VDC preconstruction and fabrication, costing, sourcing, product lifecycle management, logistics, construction, manufacturing, as well as operations and maintenance. Part of this work involves developing a BIM Content System.

CASE CREAL

Senior Associate, Gensler

Creal has over 20 years’ experience across numerous project types, from local projects to national headquarters, including Boeing, Starbucks, and Reebok. He is currently leading projects across the west coast for the Dutch hotel company citizenM.

RICHARD GREEN

York, with KPF. He was the lead designer for the facade of the Main Terminal Building of Helmut Jahn’s Bangkok International Airport. Green has also worked on cultural facilities on six continents, including the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center by Renzo Piano in Athens; the restoration of the Sydney Opera House; and the refurbishment of the Seattle Space Needle with Olson Kundig.

DUANE JONLIN

Energy Code and Energy Conservation Advisor, Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections As a member of the Washington State Building Code Council, Jonlin leads the Technical Advisory Group in developing the state energy code. At the national level, he serves on both the ASHRAE 90.1 Committee and the ICC Commercial Energy Code Committee. Previously, he was a principal at NBBJ, with 30 years’ experience working on complex projects as a technical architect. In 2016 he was elected to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.

Libourel has nearly 20 years’ experience in facade engineering, structural engineering, multidisciplinary project management, and fabrication modeling. Throughout his career, he has served as lead de-

SPEAKERS signer and project manager for several projects in the U.S., and globally in market sectors such as cultural and institutional, mixed-use, sports, residential, and commercial. Since joining Thornton Tomasetti in 2015, Libourel has focused primarily on facade engineering projects.

ALLAN MONTEPELLIER

Principal, PAE

Montpellier is a mechanical engineer with over 20 years’ experience and a passion for high-performance buildings. Four of his projects have been awarded the AIA COTE award, with many others achieving top LEED ratings and ASHRAE awards. He focuses on developing integrated systems through innovative alternatives that rely heavily on sustainable-design strategies. Montpellier measures success based on a building’s actual performance and, most important, the relationships he forms along the way.

ENRICA OLIVA

Olson Kundig’s R&D initiatives, he helps implement progressive research ideas, focusing on building energy use and the possibilities of technology and craft. Current explorations include a massive, ultra-high–efficiency window system; research on kinetic design elements; and a “drawing-less” model-based delivery process for a remote cabin.

LISA RAMMIG

Senior Associate, Eckersley O’Callaghan Rammig leads many of the facade group’s most challenging projects, from a corporate campus in California to high-profile retail stores. She is responsible for directing EOC’s R&D efforts globally, focusing on innovative glass designs and technology while also identifying new fields of research. She is part of the Facade Research Group at TU Delft, where she pursues her doctoral research on transparent glass connections. Since mid-2017, she is responsible for EOC’s San Francisco office.

VIKRAM SAMI

Director, Partner, COO, Werner Sobek Oliva’s experience in the construction industry began with nine years of design at Thornton Tomasetti, New York. Since joining Werner Sobek in 2016, she has managed luxury residential projects in New York, complex specialty structures, and academic projects in New York City, Chicago, and Boston.

SUKYEE PANG

Senior Associate, Gensler

A registered architect and certified construction document technologist, Pang has 20 years’ experience in architectural planning, design, and construction of diverse project renovations and architectural projects for corporate and institutional facilities. She received her BArch and MArch from the University of Minnesota.

STEVEN RAINVILLE

Principal, Olson Kundig

Rainville brings a strong interest in building performance, craft, and technology to his residential, commercial, cultural, and institutional projects. As director of

Current areas of research include: thermal comfort, natural ventilation, building simulation techniques, global carbon reduction techniques, and post-occupancy evaluations. He leads Olson Kundig’s participation on the AIA 2030 Commitment and helps designers understand sustainability ratings systems such as LEED®, WELL Building, and Passivhaus.

JAMIE SLAGEL

Principal, Olson Kundig

Slagel is known for her keen sensitivity to the landscape, which she applies across a broad range of project types, from private residences to cultural projects, product design, art installations, mixeduse, commercial projects, and competitions. She has collaborated on projects receiving both national and regional awards. She has also served as Adjunct Professor at Montana State University School of Architecture and the University of Washington College of Built Environment.

ERIC LACROIX

STI Firestop

Recognized for his firestop expertise, Lacroix has over 20 years’ experience on complex high-profile projects around the world. He works closely with inspectors, glazing contractors, and curtain wall consultants during the design, fabrication, construction, and installation of curtain wall projects. Previously, Lacroix was the STI Firestop Regional Manager for the Southeastern U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico.

KEVIN HARRIS

AGS Stainless

Harris has worked extensively in business development, marketing, communications, and sales. Prior to joining AGS Stainless, Harris founded four industry-leading firms including two information technology firms, one specializing in the creation of web-based process management tools for Fortune 100 corporations and one specializing in building predictive modeling applications for federal agencies. He also founded a real estate development firm that spearheaded the restoration and redevelopment of a historic seaport community’s waterfront and he co-founded a state-chartered community bank.

DAVE KEARNEY

ALPOLIC

Kearney is Director of Sales and Marketing for ALPOLIC, a division of Mitsubishi Chemical Composites America, where he oversees the sales and marketing programs for Central, North, and South America. Under his tenure, Kearney has grown the company’s Corporate Identity program to be one of the largest in the world, currently servicing more than 200 global brands.
