#Title: Reuse and sustainability: how contemporary architecture interacts with the monumen
ABSTRACT The research project concerns the relationship between contemporary architecture and monuments. In particular, it explores how contemporary architecture interacts with monuments, which intervention is considered successful, how new interventions manage to designate again the monument, how they achieve it and in what extend the new distinguishes from the old, how they contribute to the sustainability and the preservation of the collective and historical memory and what is the architect’s role in the design solution. Through theories developed on the above issues remarkable examples will be analyzed which show the relationship between new and old. The aim of this project is, through the analysis of successful design approaches, that the interaction between old and new to become recognizable and not to carry out specific methodologies, as each monument has its own unique characteristics.
