Welcome Home!

Station Manager, Dennis Moran returns from six month deployment in Kuwait In July, SAF Sigonella, will be welcoming one of its own home from deployment. In January 2014, Station Manager, Dennis Moran left for a six month deployment at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. Dennis joined the Sigonella team in 2013 and this was his third deployment sense joining the Red Cross.

Congratulations to our June Volunteer of the Month!

Jessica Lewis has positioned herself as an integral member of the SAF Sigonella team of volunteers. Along with helping plan and execute special events, she utilizes her culinary skills to share healthy treats to the community. Always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, Jessica is consistently lending a hand to ongoing projects as well as coming up with new and creative ideas to promote the Red Cross mission.

Now Recruiting: Volunteer Leaders Would you like to become an American Red Cross Volunteer Leader?

There are currently several open positions on the SAF Sigonella Advisory Council and more positions will be opening up in the coming months. The positions are part of the Volunteer Leadership Team. Positions include Chairman of Volunteers (COV), Recognition Chair, Health and Safety Chair, and Hospital and Chair. Responsibilities include weekly office hours, supporting the Red Cross mission, providing monthly reports, conducting volunteer needs assessments, coordinating recognition activities, and ensuring volunteer records are maintained. Sigonella Girl Scouts Send Cookies to Deployed Red Cross Stations

***Assist MWR staff at the Annual 4th of July celebration. Volunteers will help with the bounce houses and other children's activities.

Rotator Welcome Counter July 2, 16, and 30 (1200-1600, time can vary based on delays and includes time to prepare supplies) ***Hand out water, snacks, and supplies to Rotator passengers making Sigonella their new home.

RELO Fair July 8 and July 18 (1230-1530, includes setup and clean-up time) ***Help welcome new Sigonellans during INDOC and share information about Red Cross Services and how they can get involved.

The Sigonella Girl Scout troops are doing something special with their cookies this yeardonating them. They are generously sending over 200 cases of cookies to Red Cross offices in deployed locations (that’s more than 2,000 boxes of cookies!). The offices in Kuwait, Bagram, and Djibouti will distribute the cookies to deployed service members at their bases; as well as any forward operating bases attached to them. Emily Hayes, Deployed Red Cross Station Manager at Camp Lemmonnier in Djibouti, stated, “Girl Scout cookies are very popular with the service members here. We are excited to distribute the cookies on behalf of the Sigonella Girl Scout troops.”

Community Open House

On Thursday, June 5, the organizations from the community buildings on NAS 1 came together to host an open house event where members of the community came and learned about the different services each organization offers. AFN joined the party and did a live broadcast during the event.

Participating organizations include: American Red Cross, UMUC, Central Texas College, EmbryRiddle, Navy College Office, Fleet & Family Support Center, and the Sigonella Library.
