Be Prepared for an Emergency and be Red Cross Ready! Being prepared means being equipped with the proper supplies you may need in the event of an emergency or disaster. Keep your supplies in an easy-to-carry emergency preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate. At a minimum, you should have the basic supplies listed below: Water—one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home) Food—non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home) Flashlight Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
Extra batteries First aid kit Medications (7-day supply) and medical items Multi-purpose tool Sanitation and personal hygiene items Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies) Cell phone with chargers Family and emergency contact information Extra cash Emergency blanket Map(s) of the area
Congratulations to our August Volunteer of the Month! Steve Collier has been a volunteer for a few months and became SAF Sigonella’s Chair of Volunteers in August. Since joining the team he has put in numerous hours in the office at meetings and trainings. He has also completed numerous online courses to prepare him for his new position. Steve has gone above and beyond expectations and we are thrilled to have him on our team. Congratulations Steve!

Now Recruiting: Hospital Volunteers Would you like to become an American Red Cross Hospital Volunteer?
Have you been looking for a way to be more involved in the Sigonella Community? Do you have experience working in a Hospital? If you answered yes to either of those questions then we have the perfect opportunity for you! The American Red Cross is now recruiting volunteers for Naval Hospital Sigonella. The available opportunities include computer support, office filing, records clerk, phone operator, front desk assistant, and nurses. If you would like more information on becoming a hospital volunteer, stop by our office on NAS 1 or give us a call a DSN 624-4900.

MWR POW/MIA Remembrance Run September 8 (0730-1100) ***Help with registration and water tables at the MWR race.
Rotator Welcome Counter September 10 and 24 (1200-1600, time can vary based on delays and includes time to prepare supplies) ***Hand out water, snacks, and supplies to Rotator passengers making Sigonella their new home.
RELO Fair September 4 (1230-1400, includes set-up and clean-up time) ***Help welcome new Sigonellans during INDOC and share information about Red Cross Services and how they can get involved. To register for any of these opportunities, visit the “My Shifts� tab on your Volunteer Connection Profile.

EVENT SCHEDULE
September is National Preparedness Month! Since 2004 the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared September to be National Preparedness Month. In an effort to support this campaign, the American Red Cross SAF Sigonella Disaster Action Team (DAT) is hosting several events throughout September to help educate the community about preparedness and give them the tools to be ready for the different types of disasters that can affect Sigonella. For information on any of the events happening throughout the month of September, please contact the Disaster Services Chair, Katie Connolly, at Katie.connolly@redcross.org or 624-4900.
