1. Why have you chosen to study Media Studies A Level?

Media plays a key role in the society we live in and the fascination around it is almost natural as it is anywhere and everywhere. I am keen to learn how the media became and remains as successful as it is today. Aside from that I also have an interest for specific media texts, in particular film and I would like to expand my knowledge in that area.

2. Is there a particular area/genre of the media that you are interested in? As mentioned above I am particularly interested in film, I am not very fussy in connection to genre but rather how the film is filmed, use of camera angles, how the story is told and most importantly, the story line.

3. Why do you think the media is important? I believe that the media is not only important but rather the most important in today’s society. The media has become an in-escapable part of our lives mainly due to its variety of different media texts, especially in the ever expanding world of today. There is a certain type of media for everyone. From television programs, magazines, films, newspapers etc.

4. How much power do you think it has over our society? The media is very power over our society because it appeals to all ages, via, films, TV, magazines, newspapers etc. its power is also significant because of its ability to reach all different types of social classes, eg, Tabloids newspapers & broadsheets.

5. Chose 3 different groups of people and explain how you think they are represented in the media? Teenagers: The majority of the media make the assumption that all teenagers are yobs, loud, violent, and irresponsible. The Elderly: Media has a tendency to portray the elderly as victims of crime committed by teenagers. Muslims: The worldwide media stereotypes Muslims as terrorists and uses attacks such as 9/11 and 7/7 bombings to support their opinion.


6. What skills do you hope to develop through learning about the media? Understanding how the media works will help me approach media texts differently. To be able to analyse and reveal what message the media is trying to send to use.
