From your Family and MWR Director Hello Area 1 Community Members! It’s finally happened - ‘we don’t have a single thing going on at any of our programs this month!’ …… “APRIL FOOLS!!” March arrived and went out just as fast as it came in! If you missed any of the exciting activities offered in March don’t worry; we’ve got Jammie G. Hawkins you covered in April. As the weather changes and Director, Family and MWR summer is extending its arms to you, get ready for the outdoor programs that we’ve got planned. They’re numerous, so get your summer body ready with the Fitness Center and Outdoor Recreation Center as part of those plans. We have what you need to ‘get it going!’ In case you’re not aware, you can actually book ‘Unit Tours’ with the Outdoor Recreation program located at the Casey Community Activity Center (CAC). That’s right, figure out what or where you want to go, get with the Team at Outdoor Recreation, and let them plan it for you! If you’re into hiking then check out the Surak Mountain Hike or the East Sea Fishing Outing and/or the Seoraksan Camping & Hiking Trip. Also, look over the rental/checkout equipment while you’re there (everything from mountain bikes to tents). We also feature the popular DMZ Tours that provide insight as to why we’re all here serving in South Korea; you’ll walk away with a surreal feeling after this experience. Sign up early - that trip fills up quick. USAG Red Cloud and Area 1 BOSS have diverse programs for you to participate in to enhance your life skills and support resiliency. Go to any CAC and visit your BOSS Representative for more details. April is National Library Week so visit your local Library and find out what events, programs, and contests they have planned for you. Your Area 1 Sports program has all type of things to do from Community Runs, Softball Tourneys, and the very best facilities found on the Peninsula to workout in. Lastly, other activities such as Golf, Bowling, Restaurants, and Clubs are here to meet all your needs from Catering, Dancing, Comedy Shows, and Concerts to the 72oz Steak Challenge at the Gateway Club. So don’t be a ‘barrack-rat’ and get out and be a part of all the adventures that Area 1 MWR has in store for you! By the way, April is also Alcohol Awareness Month and Sexual Awareness & Prevention Month. ASAP and SHARP have collaborated to present a play entitled “WAKE UP.” Check out the article here in the magazine for more details, dates, times and location. Oh and by the way, this training will count towards 3rd Quarter ASAP and SHARP Training requirements! Check us out at our Facebook Page; every day we have something posted to inform you of the latest and greatest from programs, services, specials, weekend weather, and much, much more. We also have our very own MWR Website that provides you with even more information. Lastly, there is our weekly Warrior Compass update that provides you ‘what’s hot and what’s not’ and you can sign up for the website and Warrior Compass at our Facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/AreaIFMWR/ We’ve got something for everyone so take the time and peruse the ITZ magazine to find your niche. If you prefer to have the ITZ on your smartphone you can also find the digital version online at our Facebook page. See you out and about!!!! IN THE ZONE

THE TAX MAN COMETH: AREA I TAX CENTERS OFFERS TAX FILING SUPPORT
Another year has begun, and with it comes yet another tax season. Area I Soldiers, retirees, DoD civilians, and dependents can take comfort in knowing that the Area I Tax Center’s will be offering free tax preparation services. The Tax Centers will be located at Camp Casey and Camp Red Cloud (CRC), with mobile tax teams servicing Camp Stanley and the Joint Security Area (JSA). Last year, the Area I Tax Centers saved eligible clients over $200,000 in tax preparation fees. Not only does the Army tax center program save clients hundreds of dollars in preparation fees, but most Soldiers and eligible clients are actually able to obtain tax refunds. In fact, Area I Tax Centers alone were able to recover $1,556,119.00 in refunds. Each tax preparer is trained and certified by the IRS, guaranteeing quality tax preparation that matches or exceeds any commercial tax preparation service. When can I file my tax returns? Tax returns may be filed as soon as all tax forms are received. This year, active duty Soldiers received their W-2s in late January, and the Tax Centers themselves have been helping the community file their taxes since January 30, 2017. When will the Area I Tax Centers open? The Camp Casey Tax Center, located on the 2nd Floor of Maude Hall, is currently open and has serving customers since January 30th. The CRC Tax Center, located in building S-267 (Housing Office), room 106, has also been open since January 30th. Mobile tax teams are now providing service to Camp Stanley, located at the Camp Stanley Chapel, and the JSA. What hours will the tax centers be open? Both the Camp Casey and CRC Tax Centers will be open Monday through Friday from 0930 to 1700, with the exception of Thursday, when the Tax Centers will open at 1300. The Tax Centers will primarily take clients on an appointment basis, with walk-ins available as time permits. The Camp Casey Tax Center will be open for walk-ins on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1300-1700. Who is eligible for tax preparation services at the Tax Centers? Active duty service members, reservists on active duty for more than 29 days, retirees, DoD civilian employees, and dependents are eligible for tax preparation services. Civilian contractors are not eligible for tax preparation services unless they fall into one of the previous categories. Will it cost me anything to get my tax returns done at the Area I Tax Centers? No, tax preparation services through the Tax Centers are free. Our tax preparers are trained to the highest level by the IRS and are able to complete both federal and state tax returns. Where can I get further information? For further information, please call the Camp Casey Tax Center at DSN 730-4888. 56
