Celebrating Our Hispanic Heritage Tampa Hispanic Heritage Inc. is proud to present the Calendar of Events 2016 Each year, Tampa Hispanic Heritage compiles relevant events happening in the Tampa Bay area during the Hispanic Heritage season from September 1st. to November 15th.
Past president of THHI Dr. María Vizcarra, presenting a donation to Donna Wolski, director of development at the HCC Foundation. The check is for a THHI scholarship to HCC in memory of Matilda Martínez García, life-long board member of THHI.
During this time, THHI organizes and presents a diversified number of festivities that are educational, entertaining, and exciting. From the Mayor's official proclamation of the Hispanic Heritage month to the Inaugural Gala, from the Annual Poster and Essay Contests to the Hispanic Leadership Class Awards. Proceeds from the THHI events help fund scholarships for deserving college students of Hispanic descent. OUR VISION Our vision is to contribute to the cultural richness of the Tampa Bay community, by fostering the desire for higher education and leadership, so that they can become examples and advocates of our language, music, food, traditions and values. OUR MISION Our mission is to promote, preserve, and celebrate the Hispanic heritage in the Tampa Bay area.

Pasos is a Hillsborough County Public Schools sponsored event. This program was uniquely created to equip and empower all 8th -12th grade Hispanic/Latino students identifying Spanish as their primary language on college and career readiness. The presentation is conducted completely in Spanish and seeks to educate our families on the complexities of the college preparation and admission process. Studies have indicated that reaching our population early on can greatly impact their success in high school and beyond. It is our desire to equip our students with the tools they need to maximize every opportunity afforded them in high school in preparation for an amazing future.

THHI Kick-Off Celebration 2016 A family event will be celebrated at the Florida State Fairgrounds in partnership with TELEMUNDO at “La Feria de la Familia,” and the THHI cultural ambassador election will take place at the event. The THHI annual kick-off celebration for National Hispanic Heritage Month is a free event for the community. THHI orchestrates the Cultural Ambassador Extravaganza, where Hispanic young women are given the opportunity to compete by showcasing the traditional dances of their native cultures. Representatives from different countries, wearing distinct regional dresses, express their cultural traditions through the arts including dancing, storytelling, and cooking. They put together a choreographed dance and compete to become the next “Tampa Hispanic Heritage Inc. Cultural Ambassador.” The Kick-Off Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. is a family event full of fun for the whole family. The cheer of attendants from different Hispanic countries, together with the cultural ambassador election and music, guarantee a lively atmosphere at this event. The official Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. posters will also be autographed by the winning artist and distributed free to the public during the kick-off celebration. The winning cultural ambassadors will attend all THHI events and act as exemplary role models to Hispanic youth. Come and support your favorite candidate! Decades Rewind Straz Center
Take a trip down melody lane with Decades Rewind, featuring more than 60 songs blended into unique medleys from the most prominent decades in music history. This live concert experience features an eight-piece rock band and six vocalists surrounded by rock ‘n’ roll stage lighting, poignant videos of American culture and more than 100 costume changes. Trip through the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s as Decades Rewind has audiences singing along and dancing in their seats during this memorable, magical, rock musical extravaganza. This performance is a fundraiser for Feeding Tampa Bay. Part of the national Feeding America network, Feeding Tampa Bay, focuses on providing food to the more than 700,000 hungry in the 10-county area of West Central Florida.

Strike Out HD A Softball Tournament to Benefit Huntington’s and Juvenile Huntington’s Disease
This benefit is being held to help raise awareness and funds for the USF Research Fund as well as for Help 4 HD International’s Huntington’s disease Family Relief Fund. There is no cure, absolutely nothing anyone can do for the adults and children who are living with Huntington’s disease. All they have available is palliative care. It is important to support research so the current fatal fate of Huntington’s disease is changed. The pain and suffering children and adults have to endure living with Huntington’s disease is unimaginable. Families also suffer financially because the person with HD is unable to work, and the spouse or parent must quit working in order to be the fulltime caregiver.
Este evento se llevará a cabo para ayudar a crear conciencia y recaudar fondos para el fondo de investigación de la USF, así como para el fondo de ayuda internacional para familias con pacientes que padecen la enfermedad de Huntington. No hay ninguna cura, no hay nada que se puede por los adultos y niños que viven con la enfermedad de Huntington. Todo los cuidados que tienen disponibles hasta ahora son paliativos. Hispanic Man and Hispanic Woman of the Year Gala Tampa Hispanic Bar Association
The theme of this year’s Annual Scholarship Gala Dinner is CELEBRANDO NUESTRO PASADO, PRESENTE Y FUTURO. Robert “Bob” Martínez, Florida’s 1st Governor of Hispanic descent and former Mayor of Tampa, will be the keynote speaker. Attorney Luis Viera will be recognized with the Luis “Tony” Cabassa Award. THBA will award scholarships to deserving law students of Hispanic origin or descent. Sponsorship opportunities are available online. Tickets are $100.00 for individual Non-THBA members; $75.00 for members and $45.00 for students. Net proceeds of the event will help continue to fund scholarships to be awarded in the future.
