Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: ‘‘‘‘‘ Selected to win the race.

‘‘••• Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

‘‘‘‘• Good chance of being placed. ‘‘‘•• By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

‘•••• Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

A competitive nursery to kick o‚ the card, with the narrow vote in favour of BURTONLODGE BEAUTY. She’s progressing gradully from a low base, picked o‚ in the dying strides at Chelmsford 2 weeks ago. The return to turf will hold no fears and she can go well again. Therehegoes, Noble Albert equipped with first-time blinkers, and Bluebell Way, who caught the eye last time, head up the dangers.

NATASHA LEWIS FOUNDATION Racecourse Operations Manager aims to cover 220 miles in 28 days to raise money for the Natasha Lewis Foundation. Bath Racecourse’s Operations Manager, Marc Fry, has set himself the challenge to cover a total of 220 miles in just 28 days in order raise funds for the newly-formed Natasha Lewis Foundation, set up to honour Natasha Lewis, a Team GB athlete who died earlier this year.

Step-brother to Dave, Bath Racecourse’s Operations Manager, Marc Fry, wanted to raise funds for the foundation by completing a challenge inspired by Tash and has set himself the goal of running/swimming/cycling/walking (or even crawling!) 220 miles over 28 days – the age Tash died. His challenge started on Tuesday 21st September and finishes at the racecourse’s season finale on Monday 18th October. Marc Fry said: “Tash, along with her partner in crime Dave, have touched a lot of lives in the community and would always go above and beyond for those that they cared about. That was why I felt that I need to give something back and push myself out of my comfort zone.” To follow Marc’s progress and make a donation, please visit www.gofundme.co.uk #whatdoesn’tchallengeyoudoesn’tchangeyou

RACE SEVEN

A British bobsleigh team member, Natasha, 28, tragically died on 7 April 2021 after being struck by a car whilst on her morning run. Launched in September by her fiancé, Dave Bowler, the Natasha Lewis foundation will support young athletes and give them the chance to work with team Bath Athletics. The Foundation symbolises Natasha, or Tash as she was known, “finishing all the races that she had left to do”.

Libby Ami has improved in recent months and will be a big threat if able to continue the good work starting out for another new yard, while Kempton winner Poet’s Eye and Hurricane Helen are others with realistic claims.
