Hereford Racecard - Wednesday 15th January

Page 1

Welcome to Hereford Racecourse for our first fixture of 2025, albeit not our intended first meeting of the year, but we are thankful to all those who have made this additional meeting possible and to our sponsors, DragonBet.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a belated Happy and Healthy New Year We have seen some fantastic racing around the country over the Festive period, despite the challenging weather, and we thank all those who work over this time to make racing happen and to ensure horses reach the track in the best shape possible

Looking to experience the thrill of racehorse ownership? Then look no further than our Hereford Racing Club which includes an annual ARC membership (to 500+ fixtures) plus a share in the Venetia Williams’trained horse Johnny Boy. It really presents fantastic value for money at £310! Visit our website for more information or to join up right away!

For those that have already enjoyed a Day At The Races package this season I’m sure you will appreciate the value this package gives, with admission, racecard, hot pie and drink included. These packages are available for all remaining fixtures and must be purchased 7 days in advance of the raceday, but numbers are limited so would encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment.

All of our 2025 fixtures are now online and available to purchase tickets for but don’t delay as both our Snaffles restaurant and Premier Viewing are selling fast. With fixtures to look forward to including Herefordshire Raceday on Saturday 8th March, and our new Ladies Evening to finish the season on Friday 9th May.

Enjoy your day with us today and we will see you again on Monday 27th January.

Best wishes,

HORSE AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT HEREFORD

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary. Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.hereford-racecourse.co.uk

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

Selected to win the race

Good chance of being placed By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

Can be given little or no chance.

TheBHA Handicappers allot ratings to horsesoncethey have taken partinasufficientnumber of racestoenable the Handicappers to make anumerical assessmentofeach horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weighttobecarried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participantwithanequal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions

Ahorse rated100, forexample, would be set to carry 1lb more than ahorse rated99(ignoring anypenalties or allowances). Theratings published in the racecardfor handicap racesare the ratings thatwereused to calculate the weighttobecarried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps racesthe rating shown is thatofeach runner at the time thatthe entries forthe race were confirmed.Any subsequently published change to arating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.for novicesteeplechasers, the latest hurdle race rating maybeshown until such time as the Handicappers allot aseparatesteeple chaserating.Such ratings areprefixed by the letter h.

Cases can be made for most, but the vote goes to THE GOOD DOCTOR, who has found just one too strong on both starts over the larger obstacles so far but Ben Pauling’s 6-y-o can make it third time lucky with this extra distance promising to suit. KNIGHT OF ALLEN posted his best effort yet when third in a useful handicap at Haydock towards the end of November and, with the still longer trip sure to suit, he’s an appealing candidate to notch a second career success Santos Blue is a likeable type who should be all the better for his reappearance, while Jour d’Evasion is well worth another try at this trip given how he shaped at Wincanton.

AND JOCKEY WELFARE AT

racingtogether.co.uk

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site.
