Welcome to Chepstow Racecourse for our Beer & Cider Festival raceday, sponsored by Pertemps.
We’re glad to welcome you to what promises to be a wonderful afternoon’s racing with 7 competitive races, plenty of entertainment and lots of food and drink on offer throughout the day.
The theme of the day is Beer & Cider and there’s plenty of that available throughout the day. We have a wide variety of different real ales, ciders and draught beer options available so head over to our Fanzone marquee to sample a few of the different drinks on offer
The fanzone marquee promises to have a great atmosphere throughout the day, with both the Six Nations games being shown on the big screen and plenty of seating throughout. There’s limited on the day upgrades available into the VIP section of the marquee at the front so do ask at reception or the steward by the VIP section for more information on how to upgrade.
Switching our focus back to the track, we must pay a huge thanks to Pertemps for their sponsorship of the meeting today. Their support of this fixture is tremendous to us at Chepstow Racecourse and we’re incredibly grateful to them for that. We look forward to welcoming the team from Pertemps and hope that you all enjoy your big day with us here in South Wales. I’m sure a lot of eyes will be on the qualifier race, with a view to horses aiming to qualify for the final at Cheltenham in less than 3 weeks’ time.
I’m thrilled to see so many people with us today redeeming the Wet Weather Guarantee free ticket offer from the offer we activated after our Coral Welsh Grand National meeting. It’s a great initiative to be able to welcome you back to the racecourse with a complimentary ticket, and I hope you have a great return visit with us today.
We have plenty of great racedays coming up over the next few months, with our St Patrick’s raceday next up on Sunday 16th March.
We were also thrilled to recently announce Mathew Horne (Gavin from Gavin & Stacey) as our post-racing entertainment on our extremely popular Grand National raceday on Saturday 5th April. Mathew will be performing a live DJ set after racing, keeping the entertainment flowing after 7 races, as well as all of the action from Aintree available on the big screen, including the Aintree Grand National. It’s definitely one not to miss and I hope to see many of you back with us on what is one of our sport’s most high-profile days.
Do also keep your eyes peeled for a few announcements on our social pages over the coming weeks, with more information to come on the recently announced Bank Holiday Music Tribute festival raceday on Monday 21st April in partnership with Social Eats, as well as announcements on some of our summer themed racedays, one of which I’m sure will be very popular indeed.
All that’s left to say is enjoy your day with us and thank you for attending our Beer & Cider Festival raceday.
Have a wonderful day.

Parade Ring
This is an ideal opportunity for racegoers to see the horses close up and assess their attitude and fitness. The horses begin to parade 15-20 minutes before their race, and this is a great chance to pick your horse.
Placing a Bet
The Racecourse Betting shop is situated in the Grandstand & Paddock enclosure. The bookmakers are located in the betting ring in front of the main Grandstand.
The Weighing Room
This is located opposite the Winning Post and all jockeys weigh out here before each race. Their weight, including their saddle, should correspond with the weight shown in today’s racecard for their particular horse in that particular race. Once the race is finished, the jockeys will weigh in and their weight must be the same as when they started. On racedays, four stewards ensure each race is run according to Jockey Club rules and regulations.
Winners Enclosure
Unauthorised Bookmaking
It is a condition of entry to this Racecourse that only individuals in possession of a valid betting badge and occupying an authorised pitch are entitled to lay bets on the course of their business. Any individual found contravening these conditions will be evicted.
Emergency Evacuation Procedure
“Due to circumstances beyond our control racing has had to be suspended, will you please evacuate the buildings by the emergency exits. You will be guided by members of the racecourse staff to specific assembly points, determined by which area you are in. Once there, please wait until the emergency services and/or racecourse staff tell you what to do”.
Please see the assembly points clearly marked on the map.
After each race, the first four placed horses are led into the Winners Enclosure where they are unsaddled and the jockeys take the saddle and weigh in. There are presentations by race sponsors to the connections of the winning on the winner’s podium.

Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions.
A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in nonhandicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

PRAGNELL produced a promising first effort under Rules when fourth in a Wetherby maiden 3 weeks ago and, very much appealing as a likely improver with that under his belt, he could be the way to go for a yard in good form. Kapal Layar is steadily going the right way and is feared along with Star of Diamonds Newcomer Tyrrhenus is another to note in the betting for Dan Skelton.

C’EST DIFFERENT’s margin of victory was only 3/4-length at Carlisle on Monday but, in reality, he was value for a good deal more having been eased to a walk on the run-in. There should be better to come from this unexposed 5-y-o and, unpenalised for that, he is very difficult to oppose. The one who appeals most for forecast purposes is Arctic Saint, who has undergone a wind op since his latest start and this drop back in trip looks a good move No No Espresso is third choice. 1-2-3:
