RACING FROM ULTRA

Avery warm welcome to Bath Racecourse on this Bank Holiday Monday for our Superhero Family Fun Day.

We are delighted to welcome you for what will be a fantastic day of fun for all the family. In the area parallel to the track, in front of the Final Furlong Bar we have a Petting Zoo, Donkey Rides and a host of children’s activities for you to enjoy. In addition to that, we will be welcoming a number of superheroes who have made special plans from join us for the day before they go back to saving the world. Please do say hello to them if you get the chance!

Today promises to be a competitive day’s racing here at Bath. We are delighted with how the season has started with an ultra competitive raceday for our season opener on Good Friday, followed by an impressive victory for the Richard Hannon trained Happy Romance in our recent Listed Race, The Whitsbury Manor Stud Lansdown Fillies Stakes. We hope you have enjoyed being back at the racecourse after a prolonged break and I would like to wish all todays Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff the best of luck with the runners they are with.

I would like to welcome our sponsors today, Blackmore Building Contractors and Best Cleaning Group who have sponsored races today. Blackmore Building Contractors have been used here at Bath Racecourse for a number of years and have spent time in the off season helping us make improvements to our Weighing Room, Owners & Trainers and our Syndicate facility. Best Cleaning Group are our cleaning provider and their fantastic team work tirelessly to keep the racecourse in exceptional order. I would like to personally thank both for their continued support.

Looking ahead, we return on Wednesday 17th May before further afield we have Ladies Day on Saturday 17th June and our Cider Festival with music from The Wurzels on Saturday 19th August, two especial highlights that are worth noting in your calendar.

We hope you have a wonderful day with us, and we hope to welcome you back to other racedays throughout 2023.

Wishing you a very enjoyable day from all at Bath Racecourse.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

ëëëëë Selected to win the race

ëëëëê Good chance of being placed.

ëëëêê By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

ëëêêê Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

ëêêêê Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating
