19 AUG
FESTIVAL SAT
WEDNESDAY 18 OCTOBER COURSE.CO.UK

On behalf of the team at Bath Racecourse we would like to extend a very warm welcome to you this evening on our Cider Racenight!

We are set for a fantastic evening of both music and racing, with a number of exciting flat races taking place tonight, in addition to an outstanding performance from The Wurzels after racing.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome this evening’s sponsors – Vickers Bet, Big Stage Hire, Roundstone Catering Equipment, Andrew’s Barbershop & The Ciren Dads & Kershaw. I would like to thank each of our sponsors for their generosity and wish them all an enjoyable evening with us.

We have a very exciting set of competitive races tonight for you to enjoy. I would like to thank the Owners, Trainers & Jockeys who are with ourselves tonight for joining us and would like to wish them all the very best of luck with their endeavors this evening. The avid racing fans amongst you will have seen Haatem, who won here at Bath in May go on to win the Group Two Vintage Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, highlighting the emerging talent that we welcome here at Bath and I would like to extend my congratulations to the team at Richard Hannon’s and connections.

But the excitement doesn’t stop at the finish line tonight! After tonight’s racing, get ready to tap your feet and let loose, for the renowned musical talents of The Wurzels will be taking to the stage on the Final Furlong Lawn. Renowned for their infectious folk-infused tunes and authentic West Country spirit, The Wurzels will have you dancing and singing along to their hits, making this night an unparalleled blend of equestrian excellence and musical merriment.

We are well over half of the way through our season and following tonight only have 7 racedays remaining of our 2023 season. We really hope to welcome you back between now and the end of the season to see out this season in style. Highlights remaining include our Gentleman’s Day on Saturday 16th September when we have live music after racing also The Beckford Stakes Day which is our season finale on Wednesday 18th October which includes our listed race, The Beckford Stakes. Both of these days still have hospitality options available which can be booked online or by calling the office on 01225 424609.

We hope you have an enjoyable evening here with us, making the most of the racing, music, food and drink on offer I would again like to wish the best of luck to all trainers, jockeys and owners with their runners tonight who I am sure will be getting a big cheer when they cross the finish line.

Best of luck and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet

RACE SUMMARY

THE PRINCES POET caught the eye at Newbury last time and Eve Johnson Houghton’s gelding tops the shortlist here, with the strong pace likely to play to his strengths granted more luck in running. Magnificence isn’t the most reliable but she’ll be hard to knock out of the frame if in the same form as when a close second at Ffos Las last time, whilst course-specialist Symbol of Hope and the in-form Sarah’s Verse are also players in a decent heat.

RACE SUMMARY

An ultra-competitive sprint which can go the way of BERNARD SPIERPOINT, who found life much tougher back in handicap company last time but claimer-ridden for the first time under the tutelage of Darryll Holland, he’s fancied to add another victory to an already impressive 2023 campaign. Lilkian, Gherkin and Apache Star are just a handful of others worth considering.

RACE SUMMARY

DUBAI DREAMER appeals as the type to improve now handicapping and Roger Varian’s colt is fancied to make a successful switch into this company. Ellade found herself bogged down in the heavy ground at Chepstow last time but had been in good heart prior, whilst Loddon is less exposed than most here and also makes the shortlist.
