On behalf of the team at Bath Racecourse, I would like to welcome you to our racecourse!

We are set for a great afternoon of racing on the Flat with 6 Thoroughbred races, followed by an Arab race at 18:05. I would like to take the opportunity to thank our partners for this meeting. Weatherby’s (who produce this racecard) are sponsoring our 4th race on the card, to promote their Stallion book for 2023, which is the Number 1 Global Stallion guide! We are also delighted to be partnering with Big Stage Hire in the 3rd Race Thank you both for your generosity

Our 2023 season has been truly brilliant so far, with just 6 fixtures left to go. We hope to welcome you again before the season has concluded, with plenty of great fixtures during the next couple of months. Our Gent’s Day is on Saturday 16th September, where there will be a performance from one of the UK’s leading Oasis tribute bands, Oasish, after racing. We also have one of our biggest races of the year during our Season Finale, The Beckford Stakes which is a Listed 1m 6f race for Fillies & Mares.

Both of these fixtures still have hospitality options available which can be booked online or by calling the office on 01225 424609.

We hope you have an enjoyable afternoon with us, and best of luck to the Trainers, Jockey’s and Owners with their runners and thank you for choosing Bath.

Enjoy the afternoon, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Bath soon.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet

RACE SUMMARY

A C&D winner on his sole previous visit here as a 2-y-o, SECRET HANDSHEIKH looks the way to go on the back of a solid second off this mark at Yarmouth last week. Mumayaz, who looks the pick of the Tony Carroll-trained pair, is nominated as the main danger but Confederation also merits respect on the back of a good effort last time and recent Salisbury scorer Joy Choi has to enter calculations, too.

RACE SUMMARY

There were positives to glean from SALVUCCIO’s introduction in a Class 2 Nottingham novice 13 days ago and, likely to come on for that, the son of Dutch Art is marginally preferred to Mini Magna, who opened his account in a maiden here recently and Rose Dawes’ claim negates the penalty he incurred. WEIGHTWATCHER: NELLIE MOON won off a handicap mark of 70, her rating is now down 5lb to 65.

LONGEST TRAVELLERS: CHERRY COLA trained by S West & MILITRY DECORATION trained by C Poulton - both Lewes, 127 miles.

RACE SUMMARY

NELLIE MOON responded well to the first-time cheekpieces (retained) when a closing third on her latest start at Salisbury where she encountered traffic problems at a crucial stage. On that evidence, she is now ready to capitalise on the handicapper’s mercy and can underline that point by emerging on top here. Militry Decoration wasn’t beaten far in a Class 4 Sandown handicap last time and he is feared most ahead of seven-time course winner Blue Hero, who is bidding for the hat-trick.

Race preview from Weatherbys

An eleven strong field head to post in the Class 6 Weatherbys Stallion Book HandicapStakesoverthemilehereatBath.

The uber talented Billy Loughnane takes therideaboardCiotogforhisfatherMark, taking off a handy 3lb. The five-year-old Dandy Man gelding was denied by just a neckovercourseanddistancewhenlast seen and has leading claims to go close once again from an unchanged mark. The winner that day, Eye Of The Water, reopposes with a 4lb penalty for that victory and will be required to do a fair bit more to uphold the form conceding anextra7lbtothatrivalhere,oncejockey claims are factored in. Ronald Harris’ seven-year-old has been in flying form this year though, with three wins and a further three third place finishes since the turn of the year, so is dangerous to dismiss. He is also one who would appreciate the forecast rain better than most in this field, with a win and two secondsonsoftground.

My Trick has only won over the shorter tripof6fthisseason,butdidfinishsecond over course and distance here on his penultimatestart.IanWilliams’five-yearold finished a good fourth at Sandown last time, staying on strongly all the way to the line, and can build on that effort with Callum Hutchinson in the saddle to take off 3lbs. Ed de Giles’ Chifa was two lengths behind back in sixth that day, and has a fair bit to find with Luke Morris replacing 7lb apprentice William Pyle in thesaddle.

The in-form Kaiya Fraser takes the ride on Havana Goldrush, the Havana Gold gelding with a win and a second from four starts at Bath this term. He has disappointed since a victory at Windsor back in June though and has to bounce back in order to be competitive here. Ardbraccanhasjustonewinin18career starts, that victory coming in maiden companybackin2021.Asaresultthough, Michael Appleby’s filly has slid down the handicap to a tempting mark of 66 and takesastepbackinclass.

Course and distance winner Espresso Freddo has been off the track since last November and makes his stable debut here for Adrian Wintle. He is yet to win freshinhiscareerandwilllikelycomeon for the run. MyAmbition is two from two over course and distance, landing a pair ofsimilarcontestsatthetrackinMayand June of this year. Both of those victories came on firm ground though, and Denis Coakley’s four-year-old may just want a quickersurfacethanhewilllikelygetthis timearound.

Blue Collar Lad was well beaten over course and distance back in May but has since won at Lingfield and has been droppedapoundforhisfifthbackatthat course latest. Kraken Filly won here at Bathover10finMay,sheddinghermaiden tagatthe20thtimeofaskingatmassive oddsof50/1,andhasnowdroppedback down the handicap to 1lb below that winning mark. John Flint’s Alyara got off the mark for her new stable at Ffos Las last term, and has now dropped to that same mark as she makes her debut at thetrack.

RACE SUMMARY

CIOTOG deserves to get his head in front and is taken to do just that following his recent C&D near miss. He was just touched off by Eye of The Water on that occasion but is now 4lb better off with that rival, before the claim of star apprentice Billy Loughnane is taken into consideration. Mr Trick put in good late work when fourth at Sandown last time and is second choice ahead of Chifa and My Ambition. The down-in-class Ardbraccan also needs a second look.

RACE SUMMARY

There may well be more to come from SURREY CHARM, who left her low-key 2-y-o efforts for George Baker well behind when making a winning handicap debut for her new yard at Chepstow last month. That wasn’t a particularly strong race but she did the job well, especially considering that she was returning from an 11-month absence, and this stiffer test promises to suit. Starfighter is taken to follow the selection home, with recent C&D scorer Lhebayeb best of the rest.

RACE SUMMARY

Quite a trappy contest, however five-time ARO top trainer James Owen is the current leader with the breed and has a 24% strike rate with his thoroughbred string so far. Distance winner Heritage Valentino has been placed twice this season and can be forgiven his poor recent run tried in a visor However Owen’s amateurs give a useful weight advantage to the unexposed Victoria and DELICATESSE on their handicap debuts, with the latter a tentative pick. Al-Hatab is another young horse going the right way and could have each way claims.
