Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Averywarm welcome to Bath Racecourse for our first fixture of our 2024 season.

We are delighted to begin our 2024 season with the first Premier Raceday ever held at Bath. This initiative celebrates the best racedays that the sport has to offer with increased prize money and fan engagement which I am sure you will enjoy today. It is great to see that today’s prize money on offer, makes this the richest raceday in Bath Racecourse history, with £225,000 on offer

We are set for a fantastic day of racing and I would like to thank the owners and trainers of today’s horses for supporting the races with such great numbers. I would also like to give a special thank you to our sponsors today Fitzdares, KG Flooring, Blackmore Building Contractors & Best Cleaning. We are very thankful of their generous sponsorship and would like to wish them all an enjoyable day with ourselves.

It will be great to see so many families attending our race day today. We have many exciting family activities on offer including our face painters and fun fair rides on the Final Furlong lawn. After racing we have the incredible This Is Queen playing a set to round off what promises to be a brilliant day.

Finally, I would like to thank our ground and office teams for their great work over the past few months in preparing for the start of the season. There has been a lot of work that has gone in during the off season, from detailed planning and preparation for what promises to be a brilliant season to the tireless work our grounds team does in ensuring the racing surface is in the wonderful condition you see it in today.

We hope you have a wonderful afternoon with us, and we hope to welcome you back to other racedays throughout 2024.

Wishing you a very enjoyable day and the best of luck from all at Bath Racecourse.

surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.

RACE SUMMARY RACE STATS

A good quality contest and it could be worth chancing SILKY WILKIE. He’s not been operating at his best on all-weather since the turn of the year but his mark has fallen as a result and, returned to turf with his rider taking off a handy 7lb, he may well be seen in a better light. Democracy Dilemma, returned to these shores, and Kerdos are others to consider, with Glorious Angel also in the mix following her good Pontefract second earlier in the week.

RACE SUMMARY

WEIGHTWATCHER: SARAH’S VERSE won off a handicap mark of 71, her rating is now down 10lb to 61.

Total prize fund £20000 x Owners Prize Money. 1st £8258, 2nd £4130, 3rd £2064, 4th £1032, 5th £516. (Penalty Value £10468) SS FOUR ADAAY drops in grade and she’s made a successful reappearance in the past so, in a race where most have something to prove, she could be the one to side with. One Hart is liable to bounce back from a poor run, so he’s considered, while Sugar Hill Babe is another one who could return to form.
