Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

We are delighted to welcome you for what will be a fantastic day of fun for all the family. In the area parallel to the track, you will find a host of Dinosaurs roaming Bath Racecourse throughout the day, including Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus Rexes amongst many others. Please do say hello to them if you are brave enough!
Today promises to be a competitive day’s racing here at Bath. We are delighted with how the season has started with an ultra competitive raceday for our season opener, followed by an impressive victory for the Rod Millman trained Adaay In Devon in our recent Listed Race, The Whitsbury Manor Stud Lansdown Fillies Stakes. We hope you have enjoyed being back at the racecourse after the winter break and I would like to wish all todays Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff the best of luck with the runners they are with.
I would like to welcome our sponsors today, The Eco Scheme, Aceodds.com and Wayne Hastings and his family who have sponsored races today The Eco Scheme are experts in making your home more energy efficient (something we could all do with!) and have a great team on site today so do go and see them to find out more. They are sponsoring 5 of our races today and I would like to thank them for their generous support of today’s card.
Another sponsor worth noting is Wayne Hastings who is celebrating a very special birthday with ourselves in the company of his friends and family “Horatio” as he is known to his friends is visiting Bath for the first time today and I would like to welcome him and wish him the best on his special day. Looking ahead, we return on Wednesday 15th May before further afield we have Ladies Day on Saturday 15th June and our Cider Festival with music from The Wurzels on Saturday 17th August, two especial highlights that are worth noting in your calendar
We hope you have a wonderful day with us, and we hope to welcome you back to other racedays throughout 2024.
Wishing you a very enjoyable day from all at Bath Racecourse.

Nothing matters more to us when racing than the safety and welfare of both horse and rider Central to that is the track itself and our groundstaff do everything in their power to provide an optimum racing
surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.
