Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

We are delighted to welcome you to our Ladies’ Day!
We are set for a wonderful day of racing, fashion, food, drink and live music from the very popular Marvin Humes!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome today’s sponsors, Sporting Family Change & Olivia’s Boutique. I would like to thank them for their generosity and wish them an enjoyable day.
Sporting Family Change use sport to empower, inspire and motivate local families in Bath and the surrounding area to make positive long-term lifestyle changes, creating opportunity for all. It has been amazing to work with the team at Sporting Family Change and learn about all the tremendous work they do, and I am honoured that they are our title sponsor for Ladies Day.
Olivia’s Boutique are sponsoring for a second year and offer the best place to shop for casual and occasion dresses in the local area. We have teamed up with Olivia’s Boutique to provide a 360-degree camera for racegoers, so you can mark your day in style!
Today we are welcoming the return of our much anticipated Style Awards - where the winner takes home a huge £500 cash prize. The competition is open to all racegoers, and all you need to do to enter is head to our Ladies Day Flower Wall to have your photo taken. There will also be a spotter in the crowd looking for the best outfits. Those who make the shortlist will be announced on the big screen and invited to the Parade Ring for final judging before the 2024 winner is announced. After the racing finishes, head down to the Final Furlong where Marvin Humes will be performing a DJ set to finish off a fantastic day. This will be Marvin’s first visit to Bath Racecourse and I am sure he will throw quite the Ladies Day party for you all to enjoy.
We have a number of exciting upcoming events at the racecourse in the near future. We are excited to welcome back the return of our Cider Racenight, featuring the Wurzels on Saturday 17th August, in addition to our Rum and Reggae Racenight on Friday 2nd August which also features live music from a fantastic local Reggae Band. We still have spaces in our hospitality boxes and restaurants for these nights, so be sure have a look at these options on our website for an exciting evening.
We hope you have a wonderful afternoon with us, and we hope to welcome you back soon to another 2024 fixture.
Wishing you a very enjoyable day, from all at Bath Racecourse.

surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.
It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.
