Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

WearedelightedtowelcomeyouthiseveningtoourSummerRacingEvening!

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to today’s sponsors – YeeehaaaBet who are kindly sponsoring five of today’s races; and Mike Loftus who is celebrating a very special birthday today. I would like to take this opportunity to thank both of our sponsors for their generosity and wish them a wonderful evening.

We have a sensational lineup of racing, with 6 exciting races taking place throughout the evening. This is one of two fixtures we have in July with our next meeting being an afternoon meeting on Wednesday 17th July. We hope to welcome you back later in the month for that raceday too! We also have an exciting lineup of racing and events throughout the rest of the summer The season is well and truly underway Some of our highlights include Rum and Reggae Racenight on Friday 2nd August and our Cider Racenight featuring the Wurzels on Saturday 17th August.

For those Taylor Swift fans in attendance tonight, we have some exciting news that the UKs greatest Taylor Swift tribute, Taylormania will be joining us on our Country and Western Racenight on Saturday 14th September. Following this will be our inaugural Armed Forces Day on Sunday 15th September and we have two tickets available on the website at www.bath-racecourse.co.uk

I have been very impressed with some of the action we have had on course over recent weeks with some very competitive racing and close finishes. As we approach the half way point of the season, our most successful jockey to date is Holly Doyle with 6 wins from 24 rides. Top trainer is currentlyTony Carroll with an impressive 6 wins from 22 runs.

Best of luck to all owners and trainers with horses running this evening, we are very grateful foryour ongoing support at Bath Racecourse.

We hope you have an enjoyable evening, and we hope to welcome you back soon to another 2024 fixture.

surface. On duty today we also have a dedicated and experienced team of highly-qualified Vets, Doctors and Paramedics following the action at every stage. Their key responsibility is to monitor and provide care to the competitors throughout their time at the racecourse. The locations and vehicle movements of these skilled specialists during racing are designed to provide a rapid response to any incident across the site. We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

It is our standard practice to erect screens around any horse or jockey requiring attention on the course as this provides privacy and a safe, calm environment in which to accurately diagnose and treat the patient as necessary Please do not assume the worst if screens are erected around a horse. We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.

This looks a decent opportunity for the reliable FOINIX to land a deserved second career success. Rock And Royal has fewer convictions than most of these and the way she stuck on for third in a similar race over 1m at Yarmouth last time suggests this step up to 1 1/4m may help. Tomorrow Day also makes the shortlist.
