Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

On behalf of everyone at Bath Racecourse, we would like to extend you a very warm welcome to our inaugural Armed Forces Day.

We are set for a wonderful afternoon of racing, with 7 exciting flat races taking place throughout the day. The highlights of today’s racing will be the finals of our Bath Summer Series, which will see the Sprint & Stayers finals each being ran for £30,000. Horses in todays final have been running in qualifying races for these finals since June with 8 qualifying races being ran for each final and points being allocated for placings within these races and also bonus points being awarded for horses who have ran in 3 or more qualifiers.

We have a host of exciting things going on across site today and are honoured to be joined by a host ofArmy and Emergency Forces including the 43 Signal Squadron, the Royal Navy, The Royal British Legion, the Police, Avon & Somerset Fire and Wiltshire AirAmbulance. In addition to these great presences on the day, we have a Climbing Wall, Army Workshops running through the day, and an Army Style Bootcamp for fun for all the family.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome today’s sponsors, Betting. Bet and Blackmore Builders Contractors. I would like to thank them for their generosity and wish them an enjoyable afternoon.

We are looking forward to hosting four racedays next month with the highlight being the Beckford Stakes which will be held on Thursday 10th October. This Listed race has a prize pot of £65,000 and was won last year by the John and Thady Gosden-trained One Evening who went on to place in a Group 2 this year. Tickets & Hospitality can be purchased on our website with a discount for booking in advance so head to www.bath-racecourse.co.uk to guarantee your place at this brilliant fixture.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Owners and Trainers who have chosen to run their horses here at Bath throughout the season. Your continued support is greatly appreciated, and we wish you an enjoyable time here with us. On behalf of everyone at Bath Racecourse, we wish you luck both at today’s meeting in addition do all future fixtures, and we hope to welcome you back to Bath soon.

As we move into the off season, we see our ever-popular fireworks night return on Friday 1st November and a host of Christmas party nights in December. Both are fantastic opportunities to enjoy evenings with us with either your family or work colleagues so please do visit the website to book in.

I hope you all have an enjoyable afternoon here at Bath, best of luck and we hope to welcome you back to another fixture before the end of the season.

We also have a high-specification horse ambulance in attendance at every fixture to enable safe transport of a horse from the track to our on-site veterinary treatment facility for further treatment, or to the nearest equine referral hospital.

We are fully committed to minimizing risk in our sport, to dealing professionally and efficiently with any injury, and to maintaining the highest possible quality of care for the horses and jockeys racing here today To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website www.bath-racecourse.co.uk.

RENESMEE is well handicapped on the pick of her form and has joined a yard who has a good record with similar types, so is fancied to build on a promising stable debut and belatedly get off the mark for the season. Blue Hero has a good record at this C&D and is best forgiven his latest effort here, so remains of interest, with Run of Luck also considered after an improved effort last time.
