Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RACE SUMMARY BIG TIME MAYBE returned to form in no uncertain terms when striking over C&D under Grace McEntee a fortnight ago, and a 6lb rise almost certainly won’t be enough to stop him in his tracks if he’s in a similar mood. SIXTH RACE 8.20 ABOUT ONE MILE (7F ABT 216YDS) FOR FOUR YRS OLD AND UPWARDS
THE RACING WELFARE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) Total race value £5527 x Owners Prize Money. 1st £1835, 2nd £917, 3rd £459, 4th £251, 5th £240, 6th £240, 7th £240, 8th £240. (Penalty Value £2322) SS
RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): T Carroll (40 wins from 268 runners, 15%) runs HE’S OUR STAR & POUR LA VICTOIRE TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): T Carroll (6 wins from 37 runners, 16%) runs HE’S OUR STAR & POUR LA VICTOIRE LONGEST TRAVELLER: FINVARRA trained by E Williams, Llancarfan, 212 miles. RACE SUMMARY Though he isn’t necessarily an obvious type to follow up, the claims of REGULATOR are by far the most compelling in this field. Indeed, he did the job well under similar conditions at Chepstow on Friday and a reproduction of that will make him hard to beat under a penalty. A winner over 7f here on his penultimate start, Mostallim is second choice ahead of Pour La Victoire. 1-2-3: 1.REGULATOR (IRE) 2.MOSTALLIM 3.POUR LA VICTOIRE (IRE) KEY colours
