The Harry Bloom Memorial Trophy Harry Bloom was born in London and moved to Hove with his wife Clare in 1946. He started a small motor trading business that flourished into four branches; later he and his four sons ventured into the hotel and catering business, including buying the Langfords and Imperial hotels. In 1971 he joined the board of Brighton & Hove Football Club as Vice Chairman. His appointment culminated in his lasting legacy to the club in his nine years by creating a hugely successful lottery. Harry passed away in January 1980 at the age of 71 and his success in many commercial ventures made Harry one of the most successful and well known businessmen in Brighton & Hove. Following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Tony joined the board in 2009 when he became chairman. His appointment brought a vital infusion of financial backing culminating in the development of the architecturally beautiful American Express Community Stadium, which opened in July 2011. The entire family are fanatical Brighton & Hove Albion supporters and they are once again at the forefront in supporting local sport by sponsoring this afternoon’s race and will be presenting the Harry Bloom Memorial Trophy to the owner of the winning horse.

RACE SUMMARY GHERKIN failed to land a meaningful blow in Class 5 company at Chepstow last time, but he’s of strong interest now back down in grade, particularly given that his sole previous visit here resulted in a C&D success. For all that he’s none too predictable, Spreadsheet has to be taken seriously in current form and Jim Boyle’s charge is next on the list ahead of Red Alert and Queen of Burgundy. 1-2-3: 1.GHERKIN 2.SPREADSHEET (IRE) 3.RED ALERT KEY colours

RACE SUMMARY SUANNI was arguably unlucky not to make a winning debut at Lingfield recently and, with this step up in trip a plus and improvement on the cards, he is taken to open his account at the second time of asking. It’s likely that he will have most to fear from Wonderful World, who showed enough in a couple of runs during the spring to suggest that he has races in him. RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (16-21): T Carroll (40 wins from 283 runners, 14%) runs HOOVES LIKE JAGGER & TELEKINETIC TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): A Carroll (5 wins from 48 runners, 10%) runs HOOVES LIKE JAGGER & TELEKINETIC LONGEST TRAVELLER: IT’S HOW WE ROLL trained by J Spearing, Kinnersley, 196 miles. RACE SUMMARY MERLIN’S BEARD is improving quite a bit now, finding plenty for pressure when putting daylight between his rivals at Bath last week, and is taken to defy a penalty. It can be argued that fellow 3-y-o Hooves Like Jagger is also on the upgrade and he may emerge as the biggest threat if turned out quickly after his satisfying run here on Wednesday, with Weardiditallgorong best of the others. 1-2-3: 1.MERLIN’S BEARD 2.HOOVES LIKE JAGGER (IRE) 3.WEARDIDITALLGORONG KEY colours
