IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Abandonment Policy In the event of a race meeting being abandoned after the first race has been run, no refund will be made in respect of admission charges and emergency admission tickets will be invalid.

Admission Policy The Management reserves the right to refuse admission to, or expel any person from, the racecourse, without assigning a reason for so doing, and does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to persons or to their property.

Disabled Users Free parking is available by the turnstiles for blue badge holders. For disabled visitors requiring a carer, the carer is admitted free of charge. There is disabled access to both restaurants and a variety of disabled toilets across the racecourse.

Dress Code Racegoers are advised to wear attire suitable to the weather conditions, however patrons in the Premier Enclosure are requested not to wear sports shorts, ripped denim or football shirts. Shirts must be worn at all times in all enclosures.

Emergency Procedures for your safety Should an incident occur which is beyond our control, it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you. As part of our safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced security staff to be located at various points throughout the Racecourse. This information is precautionary and we trust the procedures will not be needed. Please remember in the event of an emergency, to take your belongings with you and under the direction of Brighton Racecourse representatives, proceed quickly and quietly to the agreed area.

HBLB Prize Money The Horserace Betting Levy Board prize fund schemes provide for the estimated inclusion of £451,971 at this racecourse in 2022.

Horse Welfare Comes First at Brighton The safety of horse and rider is of paramount importance to Brighton Racecourse. We have a team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. It is policy at this racecourse for screens to be erected when a horse requires veterinary treatment on the track. This is to offer some privacy and calm for both horse and vet and does not automatically imply that a fatality has occurred. Equine care at Brighton is provided by the Equine Veterinary Hospital at Arundel. To find out more about our Equine Welfare policy, please visit our website: www.brighton-racecourse.co.uk

Radios and Mobile Telephones The use of all types of communication equipment is strictly controlled at all racecourses. Members of the public may not use two-way radios, scanning receivers etc., for any purpose at the racecourse. Mobile telephones may not be used in or near any designated betting area, or for offcourse betting purposes. Further details are available from the racecourse office.

Photography Racegoers may take photographs for private purposes in the Grandstand & Paddock and Premier Enclosure. Under no circumstances may photographs taken on the Racecourse be used for publication. Flash photography is extremely dangerous where horses are involved and we kindly ask you not to use flash photography anywhere in the Paddock or near the Winners’ Enclosure.

Taxi A complimentary telephone is available in the Racecourse Reception to book taxis. Alternatively, racegoers can call Streamline Taxis on 01273 202020. It is advisable to book as far in advance as possible to avoid any delay.

POUR LA VICTOIRE

Pour La Victoire – Brighton Racecourse Record Holder 36 Runs 11 Wins - 6 Seconds - 5 Thirds S

One of the most extraordinary horses in the long history of Brighton Racecourse is Pour La Victoire. The first of Pour La Victoire’s record 11 victories here at Brighton came in 2013 at this very Festival at the age of three, with his final one back at the same fixture eight years later, at the ripe old age of eleven. A total of 121 career starts saw ‘PLV’ win a further six times away from Brighton, but he ran 36 times here, winning under seven different jockeys. Trained for most of his career, and all of his wins, by Tony Carroll, Pour La Victoire amassed a further eleven placed efforts at his beloved Brighton. We were delighted to rename the Winning Connections room after Pour La Victoire, which opened almost exactly a year ago to the day on what turned out to be his final run. Having been cheered home in front by the Brighton faithful, his owners ‘Curry House Corner’ promptly made the decision to retire him on a high and called time on his extraordinary career in fairytale fashion. Pour La Victoire now enjoys a happy retirement in the Cotswolds and is considered the horse of a lifetime by his devoted owners and his many fans and followers. It might take another 239 years for Brighton Racecourse to unearth another to challenge his record, so give him a cheer as he parades today!

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted
